Hi Julian, Although I don't have a copy and so haven't tried it out, the RATS FT-817 (and other Yeasu radios) software from Kingsmith looks very feature packed... try http://www.kingsmith-software.com/prod_FT817.htm to get an idea of what some of the current control programs are doing. There'll of course be all sorts of ideas coming from various quarters regarding features... comparison with the RATS interface is merely interesting as the IO features of both radios will differ. The idea of sitting down to hack out some code to control my radio when people like Kingsmith are building stuff like the RATS interface, and for the price, hardly seems worth the effort - life's too short. I'd be interested if anyone has experience with the RATS product? 73 Ted, vk1bl >... >I'm interested to know what things people look for in a computer interface >to a radio, or what things they would like to see in one that other radio >control programs don't have. Greetings all, I have worked with Kingsmith Software on the FT-847 version of RATS, and the implementation is pretty amazing. The screen looks strikingly like an FT-847, and the display operates just like the real thing. On top of that, there are additional features not on the radio (e.g., 1000 memories and Doppler shift correction for satellites). I see that the FT-817 version uses the same GUI as the FT-847. The added functionality that can come from CAT control programs is more important to me than the visual interface, although the latter is certainly a nice touch. Elecraft has announced their own version of a control program for the K2, called K2remote. I'm real interested to try that out. 73, Jay On 19 May 2001, at 9:46, Edward Garnett wrote: > Although I don't have a copy and so haven't tried it out, the RATS FT-817 > (and other Yeasu radios) software from Kingsmith looks very feature > packed... try http://www.kingsmith-software.com/prod_FT817.htm to get an > idea of what some of the current control programs are doing. My Linux based K2 rig control software is ready for beta testing. No, it is not perfect. But it is darn good I think. Those of you Linux users can give it a try and let me know what you think. It's FREE. Full source code is included. http://www.qsl.net/ab6cv You need Qt 3.x to build it. I tested it on RedHat 9 and SuSE 8.1 with no problems. Check that you have the rpm installed: On SuSE rpm -qv qt3 On RedHat rpm -qv qt Have fun with it gang! 73, Mike AB6CV ++++++++++++++++
