Give it a try if you have the KIO2. I found a couple of "surprises," but I haven't heard back from Eric on them. They are: - - With AGC set to FAST, turn off AGC, then try to select FAST again and nothing seems to happen. Same thing if you start in Slow and go off then try to go back to Slow. - - Sending CW from the text box freezes the s-meter Can't wait to see type-ahead CW sending! 73, Randy, KS4L K2 #337 +++++++++++++++++++ Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2001 21:55:03 -0500 From: "Tony Fegan VE3QF" Subject: RE: [Elecraft] K2 Remote S/W now available for download! I wonder if the wheel mouse could be used for incremental tuning? Hi Elecrafters, Those among you who are of the Mac faith, rejoice! If you have VirtualPC, K2Remote runs fine under it. I should have the type ahead feature implemented, along with a couple of minor bug fixes, by Monday. I'll follow it next week with K2 Server, which acts as the host side of the link for K2 Remote when controlling the K2 over a network. (K2 server is up and running here, but I need to improve its error recovery and multi serial port selection to it before release.) On another topic: Has anyone figured how to get Microsoft's Netmeeting to pass audio between two PCs that are behind routers with NAT firewall protection? I'm currently able to use Netmeeting with K2 Remote to fully remote my K2 on my local in house network (wireless 802.11), but not over the internet through my router. In particular it appears impossible to receive a call this way. Outgoing calls seem to work OK. Netmeeting uses dynamic port assignment for each audio connection, which makes it difficult to use with the static port forwarding tables in most routers. Short of opening ALL the ports between 1024 and 65535, I haven't found a way to do this yet. Please email me if you have any suggestions. 73, Eric WA6HHQ +++++++++++++++++++ Date: Fri, 02 Nov 2001 13:59:04 -0600 From: "George, W5YR" Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K2 Remote Update If anyone is interested, I operate my shack computer and equipment over my Ethernet LAN using the Remote Administrator program. This is similar to PC Anywhere but much faster and less expensive. For an audio link I use an IBM 3330 2.4 GHz cordless telephone which has connections brought out in the base unit to interface to a computer soundcard. Instead I interface these to the mic input and headset output of my IC-756PRO. With the headset I can be anywhere within several hundred feet of the shack and still have exceptionally non-telephone sounding audio, both mic and headset. So, I can sit here at my office computer, control my PRO with the MixW program and carry on a SSB contact using VOX. I do not mean to turn this into an Icom forum, just mentioning that the same approach should work with the K2, etc. Several of us have started using this phone and we have all received reports of very good audio - no one so far has detected that we are using cordless telephones. The Remote Administrator program allows complete control of another computer either over a LAN or direct cabling or the Internet. With my 100 mbps LAN speed, I rarely notice any latency effects. Eric- It depends upon what NAT device or firewall you are using. The problem is that native H323 includes in the data payload, the actual IP address of the originating machine. If that happens to be your private LAN IP address, i.e. not your routable Internet IP address, it won't work (the Internet cannot route back to your internal IP address). The device providing the NAT must dive into the data and change that IP address to your outside WAN IP address. If that is done, then you will be able to place NetMeeting calls. Many NAT devices provide that much of the service, including all Cisco routers with a modern IOS. Accepting incoming NetMeeting calls is much more rare, because it requires a statically mapped incoming NAT to be set up (the random port thing). A Cisco PIX firewall supports it as well as routers with the Firewall Feature Set (software costs more than a K2). It is my understanding (I haven't tried it) that the Linksys Cable/DSL router will do it with a single machine configured as the "DMZ Host," although that entire machine is then exposed to the Internet. Even then the NEtMeeting directory service doesn't work. Connections must be made to specific IP addresses. BTW- It would be way cool if K2 Remote Server ran on Linux, primarily to avoid incoming NAT. - -Dave ++++++++++++++++++= Date: Fri, 02 Nov 2001 18:29:44 -0500 From: Dave Gingrich K9DC Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K2 Remote Update At 09:54 11/2/2001 -0800, Eric Swartz WA6HHQ - Elecraft wrote: >On another topic: Has anyone figured how to get Microsoft's Netmeeting to pass >audio between two PCs that are behind routers with NAT firewall --snip-- Another possibility would be to establish a VPN into your home network (at least I assume one destination is your home) and then do the NetMeeting call over the tunnel. You could use Microsoft VPN if your gateway was a Windows 2000 box, or build an SSH tunnel into a Linux router. Both fall into the "I haven't tried it" category, but it would get around the addressing limitation. ===================================================== Dave Gingrich, K9DC - Indianapolis, Indiana USA K2 #2211, K1 #931, QRP-L #2376, ARS #1109, CCIE #6748 ++++++++++++++++++++++ Date: Tue, 06 Nov 2001 14:52:59 -0800 From: Eric Swartz WA6HHQ - Elecraft Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K2 Remote Hi Rich, Actually, I thought I had RTS/CTS hand shaking turned off in the serial driver.
