Date: Mon, 1 Jul 2002 16:39:56 -0500 While the camera bags, laptop cases etc are certainly useable, I've been looking for a pack designed specifically for portable radios. Primarily because being 'dedicated' means things are (or should be) organized &/or seperated properly based on functionality. I currently carry my K2 (etc) around in a soft briefcase and I'm worried things are getting squished up & banging around together a bit too much. Here is what I've found so far: Mountain-Ops TacPack. Looks like a really nice 'over-the-shoulder' carrying case for the K2 but it doesn't look like it offers enough ancillary storage (for me). An $80 price tag seems a bit steep for what it offers (mostly just a really nice fitted 'cover'). The Expedition pack. Originally designed primarily for the FT-817, the new expedition II pack is a bit larger and supposedly accomodates the K2. Appears to be a really flexible 'backpack' type design but the most expensive at $109.99 http://www.communication-outfitters.com/products.htm The Worldpack II ($67.95). I think if I were to buy one this would be it. It's a padded 'backpack' design and the dimensions suggest it's "K2 roomy". I like the idea of the adjustable 'elevator' in the main section, the seperate lower compartment for a power supply as well as external pockets, sleeves & tiedowns. This design reminds me of my 'real' internal frame backpack. http://www.powerportstore.com/mobile%20packs.htm Bear in mind I have no real world experience with any of these packs but simply offer what I've discovered on the 'net. I carry my K2 in a hard shell case. I tend to go on alot of planes, and like to make sure it does not get damaged. Checkout www.seanet.com/~jeffmc/k2.htm for pics on the case, and my QRP station.
