I guess a lot of us got into ham radio because of a basic confusion on these matters. Oh well. In any event, you can't always tell which plug is right simply by trying. There are a number of outer and inner diameters, but the 2 x 2 combo of 5.0 and 5.5 vs. 2.1 and 2.5 are all available. And a 2.1 socket will accommodate both 2.1 and 2.5 plugs, although the 2.5 over a 2.1 can be problematic at times. Also, many 5.0 sockets will accept a 5.5. So the best thing is indeed to know what was intended. The Elecraft manual only specifies the inner diameter (as 2.1). My measurement for the outer diameter of the hemaphroditic plug they sent was 5.5 mm. Now, I wonder where my wife went. best wishes, dave belsley, w1euy > > You find the correct plug that fits your device by plugging in > the appropriate cable and then you can choose the correct > model plug from their retail packaged selection. Before you grab that plug at RS, consider that the one that came with the K2 is specified for fairly high current, I think 6 amps. If you compare the plugs, you'll see the difference immediately. I use a bunch of different plugs myself, but I thought I'd mention the higher current model since Elecraft went to the expense of supplying them. I had never known there was a difference. 73, Jay K1UC in Waterbury Center, Vermont, USA GRID FN34 Email: K1UC at AMSAT.ORG K2#1034 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Date: Mon, 7 May 2001 22:40:45 -0600 From: "Rod Cerkoney" Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Size of the DC plug for K2 Folks, Switchcraft plugs are available from DigiKey: http://info.digikey.com/T012/V4/167.pdf Power Plug .08" Black Handle (2.1 mm Dia.)
