Our K2 transceiver--one of the best-performing HF rigs available at any price--is now available in a 100-watt model. The K2/100 is based on the K2, with the same features and same world-class receiver performance. It's the only transceiver you can buy that has the portability and efficiency of a QRP transceiver, but--when you need it--packs a 100-watt punch. The K2/100 includes a number of features that distinguish it from other 100-watt transceivers: - Rugged, fully-shielded 100-watt stage using conservatively-rated power transistors - Silent, diode-switched transmit/receive (no T-R relays) - DC input uses reliable, easy-to-assemble Anderson Power Pole connectors - Built-in true RS-232 control port, equivalent to our KIO2 option (an $89 value) - Light weight (about 5 pounds) and low receive-mode current drain (150-500 mA) for enhanced portability--the ideal rig for DXpeditions and field use - Dual power supply capability, with automatic switching to a low-current backup supply or battery for emergency operation at the 15-watt level - Instant high/low power switching just by rotating the POWER control; in low-power mode, the 100-watt stage is bypassed and turned off to minimize current drain - All basic K2 features, including dual VFOs, RIT/XIT, full break-in CW, memory keyer, narrow IF crystal filtering, excellent dynamic range, and IF-derived AGC The K2/100 shares a number of options with the K2, including the KSB2 SSB adapter, KNB2 noise blanker, K160RX 160 m adapter with second receive antenna jack, KAF2 audio filter/real-time clock, and MH2 Heil/Elecraft hand mic. Bob, who is quite knowledgeable about high-power design, built a rugged 100-watt amplifier for his K2 last year. While many details have changed, Bob's design is at the core of the KPA100, and he's helped us at every phase with review, testing, and troubleshooting. Now we hear that he's tinkering with even more watts. But that's another story.... 73, Wayne N6KR ++++++++++++++++++++ Date: Fri, 10 May 2002 18:16:07 -0700 From: Eric Swartz WA6HHQ - Elecraft Organization: Elecraft To: NB1B Cc: elecraft at mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K2 & KP/100 Weight My loaded K2/100 (including KSB2, KNB2, KAF2, K160RX) weighs in at about 5.5 pounds. I have an early machined version of the 100W heatsink that has a little more weight then the production one, so the final weight may be closer to 5 or 5.25. 73, Eric WA6HHQ Elecraft ==================== NB1B wrote: > > I've been asked by a prospective ham that is also a DXpeditioner, what is > the weight of the K2 and the assembled High power amp? There's definintely no room for it once the KPA100 is installed. > (2) The K2/100 pictured shows the K160M installed and (I believe) a KAF2 > but no KSB2. This just struck me as odd. Eric probably pulled out the KSB2 for some reason. But it certainly works with the KPA100. > Can't wait to see the manual for the KPA100. When is it going to be > posted to the website?
