I have done the sidetone modification, so my sidetone is close to sinusoidal. Measurement using a pair of 1970's Yamaha HP1, orthodynamic headphones (quite ineffecient I think - DC resistance 125 ohms): original 56 mV, after mod: 86 mv, increase 3.9 dB. Now I have no noticeable difference in audio level whether I use the headphone jack or the speaker jack in the rear. Measurement using a pair of recent Sony CD player earplugs (MDR-ED136) (DC resistance 17 ohms): original 17 mV, after mod: 48 mv, increase 9 dB. The modification is easy to do after removal of the front bottom cover of the K2 (not the one attached to the RF output transistors). The resistors are located at the front of the RF-board, next to the headphone jack, the pair of 22 ohm resistors are best put on the under side of the board. They are very comfortable, and sound very good as well. The clincher was seeing how well the pair my 14 year old son got 4 months ago have stood up - teenagers are just hell on stuff like this, and his are still unbroken and fully functional. Best of all id the price - $40 here locally. You might give them a try. Mail Order link (even cheaper than I paid) http://www.mvpav.com/senhd457.html?source=overture Or look them up on Sennheiser's site under spuraaural headphones in consumer electronics http://www.sennheiserusa.com/ ++++++++++++++++ From: "Dave" To: Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K2 Headphone Suggestion Date: Mon, 20 Jan 2003 21:46:37 -0000 I recently bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 500 headphones and they work very well on my K2. Reasonably comfortable, and not too expensive for what they are. 73's Dave, G4AON K2 #1892 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Lewis" To: "Mike Zak" ; Sent: Monday, January 20, 2003 4:22 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K2 Headphone Suggestion > Mike Zak wrote: > > >Mike - > > > >I own a set of Sennheiser HD 495 headphones and have been VERY unhappy with them. Have you compared the 457's to anything else? There was an extraordinary amount of attenuation on the 495's and I have stopped using them. > > > >73, > > > >Mike - W1MU ++++++++++++++++
