Well to get to my point. A few weeks ago I got some advice from fellow = Elecrafters on the GC Solder Popper. I picked up one of these babies = snip I have nothing but rave reviews on = this item. It worked like a charm. No problems removing parts at all. = I didn't even cut any parts in half to get them out one lead at a time. = And not one lifted pad or wrecked traces. Talk about a confidence = boost. snip BTW I'd like to thank the fellows personally for the great advice about = the solder popper, but I've inadvertantly deleted their emails, so I'll = do it here. Thanks guys!!!! I'd also like to thank the Elecrafters who unselfishly share their = technical expertise in regards to mods and other issues. You sure have = increased my knowledge base and made it fun to have a K2. 73 to all Rick ve3mm=20 K2 #1591 ++++++++++++++++ Date: Mon, 26 May 2003 16:45:33 -0400 From: W2AGN Subject: RE: [Elecraft] solder popper (was mods) To: elecraft at mailman.qth.net On 25 May 2003 at 23:02, Paul Ermisch wrote: > Wish I would've found one of those awhile back. > Me, too. Just follow the instructions on the cardboard backing. If you don't hold it the way they illustrate, it is more difficult. Push the plunger down until it latches. Then, holding it the way shown, press harder with your thumb and lift slightly with your thumb against the plunger. You'll note that there are a couple of ridges on the plunger where your thumb rests to give you some lifting friction. The whole blue body must move forward slightly before it will lift. When it is removed, it separates at the split line just forward of the white button. 73, Ken K3IU ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At 12:32 AM 5/30/03, Bob Tellefsen wrote: >Just received my Popper too, and have the same question. >Can't seem to get the pump out without fear of breaking something. >It is in there tight. >Anyone know the secret? >73, Bob N6WG +++++++++++++++++ Date: Fri, 30 May 2003 10:42:48 -0400 From: "David A. The process is described on the back of the cardboard packing sheet it come in. For those who threw the packaging away: cock the pump (i.e., depress the plunger), press down on the black plunger top with the thumb and, while continuing to press, pull it outward away from the handle housing. It may take a bit of pressure, but don't worry. The pump will pull away from the top. Then just lift it out. Replacing it ought be self evident. My experience with the Solder Popper is that it really requires very little care. best wishes, dave belsley, w1euy --On Thursday, May 29, 2003 9:32 PM -0700 Bob Tellefsen wrote: > Just received my Popper too, and have the same question. > Can't seem to get the pump out without fear of breaking something. > It is in there tight. > Anyone know the secret? > 73, Bob N6WG ++++++++++++++ From: w7qhd at webtv.net (Kurt Cramer) Date: Fri, 30 May 2003 08:00:46 -0700 (MST) To: n6wg at earthlink.net (Bob Tellefsen) Cc: elecraft at mailman.qth.net Subject: [Elecraft] solder popper Bob & list, Depress the pump. Now hold it like you were holding a dagger, with your thumb on the pump and bring your thumb back to ward your wrist. It's just the rubber seal between the pump and the iron that you must compress. .... I looked at it a long time before I got it out. 73, Kurt W7QHD (since 1951) web page: http://W7QHD.tripod.com +++++++++++++
