I paid $24 a year and a half ago for the one that's in my kitchen that is still on it's first battery and is in perfect sync with WWV... This clock has a 60 kcs. RX in it that reads the time code and self-sets. You only have to get the hands in the ballpark, and it does the rest. Once it sets itself, you can change the hands to read GMT, EST, PST, or even Newfoundland Standard Time, with it's 15-minute offset. for those of us who either want UTC, or live in Indiana, the auto-DST feature can be disabled. I'm in the process of scaling up a clock face that I created for the small $3.84 Ingraham clocks that Wally sells that is a replica of the U.S. Maritime Commission Radio Room clock. Silent Period sectors, auto alarm tick marks, the whole thing. Looks good in the shack, and looks good in my nautical-motif "Head", too.... D'you think there'd be enough interest in the faces to warrant a "press run"? Reply direct, please... I like the featur= e of local and UTC displayed at the same time. Availability probably depends upon remaining stock... they had them by the HUNDREDS several months ago... we bought at least 20 locally!!! Nice clock! I've seen them selling fo up to $50 elsewhere. 73, Tom Hammond N0Ss ++++++++++++++++++ From: "ZOOM" To: Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Clocks and Clock Faces Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 13:19:51 -0400 Well folks if it does not have to be an atomic clock, here's a deal for you. Radio shack is clearing out a clock called the DIGITAL NAMEPLATE. On one side is a clock with time day/date as well as temperature. On the otherside is another screen which you can create your own scrolling message for example Elecraft QRP station "your Callsign" Or whatever message you wish to display. All this for under $10.00 on clearout. It's LCD and keeps very good time aas well as an accurate digital thermometer. Get on the phone and call your local RS (US ONLY) not avaliable in Canada. Cat no 63-1006 You can't beat that and it looks great on your computer monitor or station desk. One didn't work at all, One worked but refused to receive WWVB, the third would sync up okay at night (we can only hear wwvb at night in Indiana), but it would be minutes off by the end of the day. All three of 'em went back. -Dave K9DC +++++++++++++++++++ To: elecraft at mailman.qth.net Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 14:08:41 -0700 Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Clocks and Clock Faces From: k6se at juno.com Thanks to all who replied about my digital "atomic" clock request. On the advice of a couple of them, I went to the local Wal-Mart and happily saw that they had them there for $12.96 + tax (no Sam's Club anywhere near here). I bought the Oregon-Scientific model RM103A from Wal-Mart, which can display in 24-hour format and has the abilitiy to offset the time display +/- 9 hours and has date display -- ideal for a ham shack application. I manually set the time to within about 10 seconds of 10 MHz WWV's time announcement and it only took about 2 minutes to synchronize the time exactly. I then removed the AA battery that came with the clock and installed a AA alkaline battery. I left the clock at its initial power-up setting of 12:00:00, January 1, 2000 to see how long it would take to synchronize After waiting about 30 minutes, it hadn't synchronized yet (the instructions say that it can take up to 72 hours to synchronize from a cold start) so I just manually set it to close to the correct time and date and it synchronized within a few minutes. The clock is now sitting atop my K2 displaying very accurate time and date in 24-hour UTC format. 73, de Earl, K6SE +++++++++++++++++++ Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 21:30:53 -0400 From: Margaret Leber To: elecraft at mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Clocks and Clock Faces ZOOM wrote: > You can't beat that and it looks great on your computer monitor or station > desk. There's no more room on top of my monitor for more knick-knacks...mine's already full-up with dolls: Dilbert's pointy-haired boss, the Intel clean-room guy, Switch from "The Matrix" and Motoko Kusinage from "Ghost in the Shell". So I keep the date, time, temp, and a few other items on my screen. See? http://geocities.com/maggieleber/gkrellm.jpg By the way, if you click on the time, it launches a Geochron display, giving you UTC and a world map with realtime display of the terminator line. OK, I phrased that badly. What's clickable is the actual thing on *my* desktop (it's called "gkrellm", by the way). So it's incorrect for me to say "if *you* click on it"...the URL only points to a screenshot with explanitory labels. *You* can't click on it unless you're running gkrellm on your machine. Requires Linux. 73 es sri de Maggie K3XS 73 de Maggie K3XS -- -----/___. _) Margaret Stephanie Leber / "The art of progress / ----/(, /| /| http://voicenet.com/~maggie / consists of preserving/ ---/ / | / | _ _ _ ` _AOPA 925383/ order amid change and / --/ ) / |/ |_(_(_(_/_(_/__(__(/_ FN20hd / change amid order." / -/ (_/ ' K3XS .-/ .-/ ARRL 39280 /___ --A.N.Whitehead ___/ /____ICQ 7161096_(_/_(_/__AMSAT 32844____/ +++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++
