Ultimatic was apparently the original dual lever keying mode, developed in the 1950s. I included a version of Ultimatic in the Island Keyer II and have a short paper on the web page (the link is at the bottom of the page): Best Regards, Chuck Olson Jackson Harbor Press ++++++++++++++++++ Date: Wed, 03 Apr 2002 01:33:33 +0000 From: jacksonharbor at att.net To: k7qo at earthlink.net Cc: qrp-l at lehigh.edu Subject: [123879] RE: Iambic Keying 101 --- Part 1 Message-ID: <20020403013334.SQNL38.mtiwmhc22.worldnet.att.net at webmail.worldnet.att.net> >Chuck Olson, WB9KZY, writes in his A and B mode >article, "The mode B keyer sends an additional element >opposite to the one being sent when the paddles are >released." Sorry Chuck. Wrong answer. You need Chuck - Sorry, for my keyers, you have the wrong answer ;) That article was intended mainly to support them and the way they work - and for mode B, that's the way I do it because, that's the way I understood it. In any case, for me, the distinction is a very fine one. I'll look into it - I will see if I can add the mode B that you've detailed. Hi Donny, The Tick (PIC Based) Keyers do both modes. After reading Chuck's e-mail I think I'm more confused than I was before ;-). I asked him for a timing diagram, maybe that'll clear it up. 72/73's Trev KG6CYN ----- Original Message ----- From: Donny Sirait To: Low Power Amateur Radio Discussion Sent: Tuesday, April 02, 2002 6:31 PM Subject: Mode A and B what is the current standard? > Dear Elmers, > > With the going thread on mode A and B I am wondering what is > the current standard for keyers nowadays?? > > Formerly we were stuck with the curtis chip which offer mode A or B > but with the current PIC keyers what is the standard?? > > Before I am using a CMOS keyer from an article by AD7I in QST > does anyone knows what mode is that keyer? > (anyway the keyer fails due to bad CD4093 quality available locally hi hi > so I returned to my old trusty straight Kenpro KK50 key) > > Thanks for reading. > > vy 72 de YB1BOD > Donny +++++++++++++++++
