K2  Headphone Jack Failure

This first picture shows a failed headphone jack after dissection. Only two of the rear contacts are used to enable/disable the speaker audio - the one in the middle and the one on the left. The right contact is only to keep the slide switch in alignment.

What happens to the headphone jack is that the plastic, holding the slide switch, cracks in two.

If this happens to your headphone jack, it could supply audio to the speaker, whether the headphones are plugged in or not, or... it may not supply audio to the speaker at all!

This shows where the pads for the headphone jack are located.

This shows which two pads to jumper in order to test the jack, if you suspect a jack failure, or to temporarily enable the speaker. If you don't want to replace the jack, jumper the pads and insert a phono plug into the ext. speaker jack to disable audio to the speaker, when using headphones.

If you do decide to replace the jack, take care when removing the old one - don't try to save it. After my 3rd failure, I decided not to replace it anymore.
