The Corcom 6EF1 fliter is a great fix for computer generated noise entering your hf rig.

When I purchased my pc, I was thinking, great, a blistering new computer. Everything was fine until I turned on the hf rig. There was over S9 noise level across the entire band, and on every band. After a process of elimination, I discovered it was my new computer :-( ...turn computer off - noise gone, ...turn computer on - noise is back!

New computers seem to be generating lots of noise in the hf bands; not a problem for non hams. The good news is, there is a cure... at least for some of us :-)

I found this information in an article written by John, W0UN who posted a message on "RFI Mail Reflector Archives". Please read John's article.

To see what the filter looks like, visit Corcom's home page. I was very fortunate to have found my filter, in my junk box. Always keep an eye out for one at the flea market, because someone you know, will surely be in need of one!

Note... one thing I did different, is to mount the filter inline using an old pc power cable, installing it as close as possible to the pc, in as short a length as I could work with. Mine looks like a 100mm extension cord. This method does not involve mounting in the power supply, is much easier to install, and will allow me to use it in any future pc, or to use it to test other rfi problems.

Good luck...
