Antennas

Fixed Station:
Multi-dipoles. One for 80 and 40, and another for 20 and 17, and a quarter wave monopole for 10M. In the past, I used an Inverted L, with a homebrewed link coupled tuner, for160; it worked really well - see below. I have a 4 element yagi for 2M and a small open loop for 440.

Portable:
I just use an end fed antenna with a counterpoise as suggested by Elecraft, for use with the K2 and KX1 autotuners.

Mobile:
I use the old Webster Banspanner and sometimes my Hustler. I also use Pro Am's and Hamsticks, because they are unobtrusive.

And for fun:
Once I used a section of guard rail, along side the highway! :) I ran a hunk of wire through the truck window, and hooked it up using a pair of vice grips. I was running 10 watts, and immediately made contact with a station in New England, who gave me a 589! "ant hr om is a 150 ft piece of guardrail... 2.5 ft above ground..."
