Astatic D-104

The Astatic D-104 works very well with my Icom 746. I get a lot of good reports on the audio quality of my station. It's not the studio quality of some out there, but for  $30 from at a local swap it does the job well. The stock amplifier in the base of the mic is a must  to drive the 746. If you don't have one with the amp, there is a good project in QST for building one.

I used the existing 5 lead mic cable with an 8 pin connector. Notice I used the +8 volt DC from Pin # 2 of the 746, which eliminated the need for the 9 volt battery to power the amp.
