From
the first pile-ups in late 70's till November 1997, one of my dreams was
to work from some interesting DX location. After Abdullah 9K2GS proposed
for me to work WW CW 1997 from his location, I did not even think about
possibility to work from Cyprus (5B). THANKS for it goes to Ivo 5B4ADA
(9A3A, T93A..), a good friend of mine, who suggested to make my Kuwait
trip with stop on Cyprus. He did not only suggest it, but made it possibile
and organized all transportation details.
It was
long trip to get to Cyprus, and I visited few other DXCC countries. First
of all I got to Zagreb (9A) by bus, get on plane from there to Prague (OK)
and finally arrived at Paphos (5B) where Ivo was waiting for me. Paphos
is some 150km away from Ivo's QTH in Nicosia, but the ride was not seem
long beacuse we had not seen each other for abouth eight years and had
lot of things to talk about. The fiirst thing we did after arrival in Nicosia
was to climb on the roof and check Ivo's
antenna farm.FORCE12 4el. monobaders for 10/15/20
meters, FORCE12 2el. monobander for 40m and wire slopers for 80 and 160m
are guarantee that you will be heard in all parts of the world. It was
early morning (about 0600hrs) and heighbours were looking at us looking
at antennas. I would like to know what they thought about us at that moment
HI. Inside the shack you can found YAESU FT-990, KENWOOD TS-450SAT, ALPHA
91B and Compaq Pentium on the table, and dozen of plaques for top scores
in all world contests on the wall.
5B licence
was one of things Ivo organized, and I could get on the air immediately
after we got down from the roof. My first 5B4/T97M QSO was with 9X0A from
Rwanda on 40m who was comming in 59+20bB !!. After QSO with him I had pile-up's
on all bands although Cyprus is very popular as DX vacation location and
can be often found on the bands.
Edin
5B4/T97M handles SSB pile-up.
During
my stay on Cyprus (before my trip to Kuwait and on the way back) I made
more than 4500 QSO's on all bands. QSL card will be answered by Ralph
K2PF. Before you send the card check for your QSO in my Online
LOG.
I must
finish this short story with GREAT THANKS to Ivo, Nives and Bruno for
their hospitality and everything they did while I was on 5B4. Also special
thanks goes to : DH0PAA, DL1FDV, DL4KAX, DL5KBA, K2PF, PA3GIP, T92PSC,
T93DGT, T93M/N1ZPE and T93Y who supported my DXpedition. Without their
help it could not have be possible.
