AA4TI Great fun. I just wish more VA stations would visit us on 20 meters. We AA4TI can't work you during the day on 40 from Florida. Also, would like to have AA4TI more VA stations calling CQ VAQP! AB1A change of plans need to help out as a public service replacement 2m AB1A operator for a 100 mile foot race, operated at bottom of 200 foot valley AB1A instead of hilltop, feel lucky i got these many VA stations, THX 4 contacts DL1HBL Thanks for the QSO Party. DL3DXX thank you for all QSOs DO5DL Thanks for the QSO Party. HB9DCM Tks for ur CW activity K2WPM-E 10 or more contacts from: Amelia, Prince Edward, Nottoway, K2WPM-E Accomack, four mults; Mobile Bonus = 400 K2WPM-E tried to use generator and amp ... for about an hour. after that, 75 watts. As Gordon always says, low power works just fine! K3FR-F Confirmed: I'm going to have more fun going mobile on Sunday! K3TW "Greetings from warm and sunny Florida." K4AKO-M 1 or more contacts from: Orange, Albemarle, Waynesboro, Augusta, K4AKO-M Rockingham, Greene, Page, Madison, Rappahannock, Warren, K4AKO-M Frederick, Clarke, Loudoun, Fairfax, Prince William, Manassas K4AKO-M Park, Stafford, Total Mobile Bonus = 1700 K4AKO-M This was my 2nd year participating in the VAQP. Worked my butt K4AKO-M off for my 102 contacts and as a result, blew my last years K4AKO-M contact count out of the water (My Larsen 1/4 wave 2/70 whip is a K4AKO-M trooper). My wife assisted this year again with logging (thank K4AKO-M goodness she is a patient woman). Overall, thank you for K4AKO-M organizing and I look forward to next year. K4CGY Great Contest-Bands HOT K4JTN Wished more mobile stations would work more voice instead cw K4NTO temporary setup in Northampton County K4RC Setup ran a little long, so we started a few minutes late. K4RC Started on 40 meters and had good propagation to other VA K4RC stations so stayed with that most of the day into the evening. K4RC Shut down a few minutes early Saturday night because we were K4RC getting no response to CQ and everyone else was a dupe. Back on K4RC the air pretty early Sunday morning but not a lot of activity K4RC until nearly noon. Enjoyed good weather and great group for both K4RC days! K4SBZ Lots of VA ops on 40 meters, even during the day. Very few VA ops on 20 M. K4SBZ Seems like they don't realize that there are out-of-state hams that would K4SBZ like to work them. Even on 40, they were focused on in-state stations and K4SBZ seemed surprised when an out-of-state station called them. I actually heard K4SBZ on op say, "Delta Echo. What county is that an abbreviation for?" K8EG all contacts made with 1 watt output, xcvr powered by 12 d cells. KA7HBH 80M on Sunday Morning I felt like the Maytag Repairman- had fun KB4PIX Carl and I enjoyed taking turns at the radio. KB4PIX The 500 foot ladder fed loop did a nice job busting pileups! KC0EWN-M 1 or more contacts from: Manassas Park, Manassas, Fairfax, Prince William, Total Mobile Bonus = 400 KC4DV Better 40 meter propagaton this year KC4GIA 1st time in the VQP. Really fun event. KD8DEU Got a few more new counties toward the 3077 USA ones KE0TT 100 watts to a selectable pair of dipoles up about 45'. Fed with ladder KE0TT lines and Matchbox tuners. Thanks for the fun! You VA people know how to KE0TT QSO Party! Good sigs from there to here this time. C U next time, 73, Dan KE4HUD GREAT CONTEST! FIRST TIME IN YEARS FOR ME! THANKS TO THE ORGANIZERS! KE4HUD PLEASE CHANGE SUFFOLK TO SOMETHING BESIDES SUX! IT IS DEMEANING TO HEAR KE4HUD "YES IT DOES" FROM FELLOW OPERATORS. CONTACT NR 69 WAS BESIDE HIMSELF, KE4HUD THINK ABOUT THAT. KE4S 2022 VAQP - tried to operate K3 on HF and IC-910 on VHF from KE4S single N1MM+ instance. Experiment failed dismally, so quit early and did KE4S not come back this year. KF3G Thank you for the 2022 Virginia QSO Party. KF4QFJ I had a great time in the 2022 Virginia QSO Party! Thanks to Organizers, KF4QFJ Operators and My Family! -73 de KF4QFJ, Jerome KI4BXU IC-7300 at 25 W CW/100 W SSB, 40 m double bazooka for 40 & 15, 20 m dipole for 20. KI4D Portable OPS Jefferson Manor Park KJ4YKG Best state QSO Party in the country. KJ9C SURE WOULD BE NICE IF THIS WAS A ONE DAY EVENT KK4BZ-P Equipment - 1 - Icom IC-746 all mode 160m-6m radio paired with KK4BZ-P 134ft OCFD wire antenna used for SSB; antenna hung in trees. KK4BZ-P Equipment - 2 - TYT TH-9800 10m/6m/2m/70cm FM radio paired to KK4BZ-P Diamond X50A dual band 2m/70cm antenna used for FM; antenna KK4BZ-P mounted on 4 sections of portable mast clamped to the side of the KK4BZ-P car. Got a late start on Saturday but was very busy in MPX. KK4BZ-P Winds came up Sunday and falling limb broke wire antenna in first KK4BZ-P location. Repaired antenna by tying it in a knot. Great KK4BZ-P conditions on 40m and 80m once got going. Had lots of fun. Thanks KK4BZ-P for the contest! KK4ZUU-M What a GREAT event (wish it was longer on Sunday). Year seven of eight KK4ZUU-M being mobile in VaQP, the only time I work SSB. Thanks to the organizers KK4ZUU-M and for the QSOs. LoTW as KK4ZUU (in a week). 73, David. KN4RRQ I made a handful of QSOs at the end of the VA QSO Party, KN4RRQ and it took me doing a few to get up to speed on what to do-- KN4RRQ and I was flustered enough that I forgot to have a #4 altogether! KN4RRQ So what I have in the log is listed below. KN4RRQ The VA QSO Party scoresheet is attached. KO4HMB-P Second year, last year I entered as /AG this year as /P! I had a KO4HMB-P blast and operated from POTA park K-4004 in PIT. Sorry I KO4HMB-P couldn't give out PIT and DAX to more stations. Can't wait for KO4HMB-P next year! KO4REQ This was my first time participating in a contest. I used a home-brew KO4REQ antenna and rig I inherited from my grandpa, and I'm glad I made a KO4REQ contact. KV4ZY Casual operating just for fun. KV8Q A fun event. Bands were much better on Saturday. This is a two KV8Q band contest from Ohio. Too close for any activity on 20. It KV8Q looked like the high bands opened up nicely for the VA folks. KV8Q Hope to see you next time. Thanks - 73 tom Rig = TenTec Eagle KV8Q @ 100 Watts. Antenna = Mag Loop (40 thru 15) and an Isotron-80 KV8Q in the attic 12' above garage floor and an indoor 10 meter dipole. KW4VA-M Thanks SPARC for another great event! Terry W8ZN and I entered the new M/M Mobile KW4VA-M category after re-outfitting our K8GP V/UHF contest rover for HF. We ran a K3 with a KW4VA-M collapsible mast for 80-10m CW & SSB and an IC-9100 with a CB whip + various V/UHF KW4VA-M antennas to cover 40m to 23cm. We ran completely off batteries, a home grown 400A/hr KW4VA-M Lithium Ion Phosphate pack. Saturday we started at STX & WAX then spent all day on KW4VA-M Skyline Drive driving north and then hit FRE, CLA & LDN by 11PM. Sunday we planned KW4VA-M another 14 counties. We started at PRW & FAU on Bull Run Mtn and after a delay hit KW4VA-M 5 more counties along Rt 66 until we hit FCX. We aborted ARL & ALX to head south to KW4VA-M STA, but after running into bad traffic on I-95S we ended up stopping and ended the KW4VA-M contest early in PRW, making a few more DX contacts on our way back home by 4PM. It KW4VA-M seemed like V/UHF activity was down, but 40m rocked giving us half our QSOs. It was KW4VA-M great to be followed by several DX stations (DL3DXX[19], OM2VL[18], LY5W[13]) who KW4VA-M snagged us numerous time on 80-15m CW. 73 & Thanks for all the QSOs (~1300) Pictures KW4VA-M here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/3BdQHi1GN9g69Gyc9 KX4KU Thanks again to SPARC for putting on another great VAQP. This KX4KU year was the most fun - bands were great and lots of outside the KX4KU state contacts this year. Heard guy in PA say he loves this KX4KU contest, one of his favorites. N1IBQ IC-7300 at 95W to a 4010 end fed. in 2021 I made 17 Q's with a portable N1IBQ vertical antenna, so did much better this year. N1NN 14TH VIRGINIA QSO PARTY N1SFT I don't understand allowing self-spotting. I did not see a single N1SFT out-of-state station that was spotted. N4CW I was definitely "assisted" by Jim, W4TMO, in all the aspects of N4CW this operation but for the operating; that I did alone! Jim planned N4CW and drove the route through Virginia. It was an ambitious N4CW undertaking and Jim's goal was to provide some of the N4CW historically under-represented counties more exposure to county N4CW hunters and contesters as best we could. N4CW Some thoughts to share: N4CW for the participants, please be aware that going mobile is a N4CW tough job -- the car has to be reliable, relatively r.f. "quiet" N4CW to the mobile operator(quite a task normally, and not an easy one N4CW at that--complicated if you're using a "hybrid"), with N4CW as-efficient-as-you-can-get antenna(s). Then there's the route N4CW planned (you MUST know county lines-- and just think of all those N4CW power lines that often go alongside the road... N4CW sometimes they're noisy, VERY noisy (like 20 N4CW dB over S9), and the noise can go on for miles!!! And the route N4CW may not always be on major highways...like driving through the N4CW Jefferson National Forest this time with mountain roads (talk N4CW about curves!!!!) and operating with all the turns and stops! N4CW Fortunately Jim's a great driver and has nerves of steel!!! Then N4CW there are potholes, bumps, and sudden stops...ever wonder why N4CW there's a pause after you send your call and don't get an N4CW immediate reply? Maybe it's because the mobile operator's N4CW keyboard jumped up just while he was typing and what came out in N4CW the call area of the log was nothing resembleing the call!!! It N4CW takes time to delete those extra characters and put in the N4CW correct ones...in worse cases, I've had the computer or mouse go N4CW flying who-knows-where!!!! N4CW Many thanks for all the patient ops N4CW who waited while we made occasional pit stops for "relief" and N4CW gas/petrol. Note: if you're serious about your score, you don't N4CW stop for lunch or dinner -- a really good trail mix is a godsend N4CW (Jim got some at Aldi). Also, you need a cup holder nearby for N4CW drinks...and it has to be stable!!! N4CW Statisics follow: N4CW Total Time On per N1MM -- 23:11 N4CW We "put on" 17 Independent cities and N4CW 44 counties N4CW We worked 30 VA mults, 15 Countries, 46 States, and 5 provinces N4CW Best DX was RZ1OA (Arkhangel on the White Sea) 15 meters N4CW Most frequent "fan" -- KA6BIM (51 Q's) followed by OM2VL, N4CW DL3DXX, K8MFO, and LY5W (50 's) N4CW Transceiver: Elecraft K3 with upgrades N4CW Antennas: Tarheel screwdriver and 20M heliwhip mounted on its N4CW own rooftop groundplane (sheet aluminum affixed to 1/2" N4CW fiberboard on roof rack). N4CW Power supplied by RX450's battery system. Noise suppression by W4TMO!!! N4CW Thanks for your patience and perseverance y'all...N4CW N4HKZ Thank you SPARC for running such a friendly QSO Party. The kids N4HKZ from the 4-H Ham Radio Club had a great time trying out contesting N4HKZ for the first time. N4RP 5w into 160L, 80m loop, 40m loop. N4SZT FIrst VA QSO Party, go QRP! N6IC thanks for the contest N7AME Very interesting since propagation did not favor WWA execept when I could not be on the air. Most of VA were on 40M and my dipole and 100 W were no healp hearing them on 40M. Let's get thenext year and see you all for Salmon Run in September. N7EPD Chasing VA stations while doing a shack wiring project and N7EPD discovered I needed to do a major antenna repair that took a N7EPD couple hours. VAQP wouldn't be much without N4CW! OH5ZA First time participation in a QP. Late start and most time used OH5ZA in trying to configure the log. In the meantime many stations OH5ZA missed on 14 MHz while the band was still open, up to about OH5ZA 2310Z... Cheers/73, Zaba OH1ZAA VE2GT I-prefer-RST-county-exchange-than-serial-county-exchange W0BH (47*2) + (13*1) * 38 = 4066 in 2:06 W1QK Thanks for the contacts - and to the mobile and portable W1QK operators too. Thanks to the Sterling Park Amaateur Radio Club W1QK for sponsoring the QSO Party. 73 - Dan, W1QK. W3RFX First timer in the VA QSO Party. Had fun! Thanks to all the VA operators. W4COV Had a great time as always. TNX W4JTP Welcome back, 40 meters! W4MGT What a blast! Lots of activity. Bands were in good condition, W4MGT but the QRN was a bit high at times. This was the first time I W4MGT took the EFHW on the road, and it worked great! W9TCV Thanks to the all of the Virgina ops and the out of state (and W9TCV DX!) ops for supporting the Virginia QSO Party! 73, W9TCV WB2FUE Many thanks to all the talented VA operators!! WB2FUE The VaQP is one of the best, lots of participation. WB4E Next year I will try to activate Scott and Lee WQ6X This is another ad-HOC WQ6X QSO Party operation from W7AYT's QTH in WQ6X Concord. WQ6X While playing around in the BARTG RTTY contest, I remember this GiG was WQ6X happening as well. I was disappointed by the lack of VA stations actually WQ6X on the air. We can blame my receive location, however there was a dearth WQ6X of internet spots indicating QSO Party activity. WQ6X LooK for the complete write-up on this weekend at: WQ6X http://WQ6X,Blogspot.com.
