We held our November club
meeting at
the sheriff Substation in Sterling on Wednesday. 2
November
2022. Twelve members in attendance. Our activity was making a Tape Measure 2M Yagi followed the directions at N5DUX's 2M Tape Measure Yagi Antenna Page |
We had most of the supplies
needed on-hand. We
had tape measures, 1/2 inch PVC pipe, coax cable with
PL-259 connectors, and solid
copper wire. We only needed PVC tee and cross
connectors as well
as pipe clamps from the hardware store. |
Kevin, W4KLS, Steve, KN4BGW,
and Eric, AJ4LN, supplied soldering irons.
Kevin and Charlie, K3SR, had antenna analyzers.
Evan, KM4SK, had
the PVC a pipe cutter. Everyone had a few extra hand
tools. We also had four volunteers to actually build the antennas. Charlie, K3SR; Ken, KN4VKN; Eric, AJ4LN; and Evan, KM4SK. |

![]() Eric, AJ4LN, tinning the driven element. We used pieces cut from a tape measure for the yagi antenna elements. |
![]() Evan, KM4SK, looking at the directions. The directions from N5DUX's 2M Tape Measure Yagi Antenna Page were excellent. |
![]() Charlie, K3SR, has his antenna almost fully assembled. |
![]() Evan, KM4SK, is soldering. It looks like his is tinning the hairpin match wire. |
![]() Eric, AJ4LN, is tightening the pipe connectors to hold the yagi elements on the PVC pipe boom. Notice he taped the ends of the antenna elements, made from a tape measure, to reduce the cutting hazard from the sharp ends. |
![]() Kevin, W4KLS, and John, KK4AHY, taking it easy. The blue thing is a soldering iron, and Kevin's antenna tuner is just to the right of it. |
![]() Evan, KM4SK, holding the wires wwhile Kevin, W4KLS, is soldering. |
![]() Eric, AJ4LN, displaying the coax and hairpin match connections to the driven element of the antenna. | ![]() The folded up antenna. Ready for storing or transport. | ![]() The finished 2M Tape Measure Antenna. |
![]() Closeup of the driven element showing the hairpin match (the yellow insulated solid wire), the black coax connection and the black tape around the pipe and coax to serve as a strain relief to prevent accidently pulling the coax off the soldering joint. |
![]() The other side of the antenna showing the marking from the tape measure. |
This was great fun. We will have to do this again with another type of antenna. |
