SKYWARN LIST SERVERS

   The SKYWARN Technical Committee has created 42 list servers through the eGroups server. One list server is dedicated to all SKYWARN weather discussions and is open for all to post information on. The others are read only lists for the NWS to post weather statements, watches, and warnings. One additional list server, although not created by the Technical Committee, may be of interest to the members is the hurricanetalk list, which is an open list for anyone to post issues related to the 2000 tropical weather season. 

Note: When originating messages to the MTHOLLYSKYWARN listserver, only use the email account that you subscribed to this list with. Attempts to send email to the MTHOLLYSKYWARN list from a different email account will result in bounced/discarded messages. The MTHOLLYSKYWARN list is the only list that allows you to list messages on.  

ALL other lists described below are ANNOUNCE ONLY and used for distribution of weather warnings, watches, advisories by the SKYWARN technical committee staff.


MTHOLLYSKYWARN List

   The first list, known as the [email protected] list is comprised of well over 160 subscribers who are interested in a discussion list revolving around severe weather and SKYWARN. The list is open to all who are interested. You don't have to be a registered and trained SKYWARN Spotter to join the list nor do you need to be an amateur radio operator. It is through this list you will find information posted about SKYWARN Technical Committee meetings, Training Sessions, changes in the website, preliminary storm reports, our newsletter in txt format, weather discussion, questions about SKYWARN and the Tech Committee, weather phenomenon, issues about the Mount Holly Forecast Office APRS/WX2PHI station and other pertinent discussions.

   This list is not for commercial postings by the members. It is requested that everyone stay on topic. Flames and off topic posts will not be tolerated out of respect for the members of the list. The Technical Committee welcomes ideas to improve this service, feel free to email the list committee on any issues you feel will improve this listserver. The list server committee requests that both of these lists be promoted to fellow weather enthusiast.

MTHOLLYSVRWX List

  The second list, the [email protected] is a read only list. It is comprised of almost 200 members who are interested in receiving watches and warnings as they are posted by the National Weather Service, Mount Holly for its forecast coverage area. You don't have to be a trained SKYWARN spotter or an amateur radio operator to receive posts from this list. It is though this list you will receive all watches and warnings as posted by Mount Holly. This list is an information only list and cannot be used as a substitute for NOAA Weather Radio during an actual weather emergency. The list server committee requests that both of these lists be promoted to fellow weather enthusiasts.

A new read only list has been developed for those that desire to subscribe to individual county weather statements, watches and warning notifications. You may subscribe to a list for any one or more of the 34 counties comprising the Mt. Holly NWSFO county warning area. The list name format is as follows:

"PHI" + 2 letter state abbreviation + First 6 letters of the county

Note: Please use capital letters for the list name

Example 1: To subscribe to the Somerset County NJ list.

You would send a blank message to "[email protected]".

Example 2: To subscribe to the New Castle County, DE list

You would send a blank message to "[email protected]". 

Example 3: To subscribe to the Queen Anne's County, MD list

You would send a blank message to "PHIMDQUEEN[email protected]". 

Example 4: To subscribe to the Cape May County, NJ list

You would send a blank message to "PHINJCAPE_M[email protected]". 

Example 5: To subscribe to the Marine interest list

You would send a blank message to "PHLMARINE[email protected]". 

*** Please note that the designator for Mt Holly is not PHI for the marine
products, but is PHL (the older Philadelphia code).

Hurricanetalk List

   The third list, although not sponsored by the Tech Committee is comprised of about 50 people in and out of the Mount Holly Forecast Coverage area and is dedicated to the 2000 Hurricane Season. You don't have to be a trained SKYWARN spotter or an amateur radio operator to be a member if this list. The list is an open list which means anyone can post information relative to the 2000 Hurricane Season only.

   This list will not tolerate flames or any off topic discussion. All postings should be relative to hurricanes, specifically the 2000 hurricane season. For more information on this list contact list-owner. Any and all promotion is appreciated.
