Public Service Events

Mt. Taylor 50K Run

September 30 – This is a 50K endurance run on high-altitude trails in the Mt. Taylor/La Mosca area. See 50K Run.
The event organizers count on ham radio volunteers to supplement very limited cell service and provide medical/safety communications for the runners. Volunteers would be stationed at aid stations along the course to provide communications with the start/finish area. Volunteers are invited to a post-race barbeque and receive race “swag.” Contact Kurt Coonrod or Jim Dalton, AF5FI, for more information or to volunteer.

Duke City Marathon

October 22, 2023 – Albuquerque area amateurs have supported this event for more than 20 years. As in recent past years, the marathon will follow an out-and-back course from downtown Albuquerque north along the bosque bike path to Paseo del Norte and east to a turnaround point near Edith Blvd., then return. A half marathon and 10K and 5K runs are included in the event, as well as several walks of varying distances. We will need a substantial number of volunteers to cover rest stops along the course, to provide medical communications, and to shadow race officials as well as a few bicycle mobile stations and sag vehicles.
Information/volunteers: please contact Ed Ricco, N5LI, [email protected]; 247-4866(h); 768-7314(w); unless otherwise indicated in the description of the particular event.
