WB2YQD CHLYPAVKA BODAN J BOX 31 ROSCOE NY 12776 BODAN "BO" CHLYPAVKA July 4, 1918 - September 13, 2010 Roscoe, NY Bodan "Bo" Chlypavka of Roscoe, NY, a retired teacher for the Roscoe Central School District and a long time area resident, died Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Roscoe Regional Rehabilitation and Residential Health Care Facility, Roscoe, NY. He was 92. The son of the late John and Stella Chlypavka, he was born July 4, 1918 in Detroit, MI and grew up in Rochester, NY. As a young man, Bo spent 10 years working in a machine shop, some of it doing defense work during World War II. He attended Ithaca College to study music, where he met his wife Alma. Known only as "Mr. C." to his students, he taught band, chorus, voice and all instruments at Roscoe Central School for 31 years. He often said he never regretted a day of teaching. His WB2YQD car license plate announced his amateur radio call sign. He was a very active member of Kiwanis for most of his 50-year membership. He directed the choir at the United Church of Roscoe for 25 years and built the communion table with another church member. The O&W Museum benefited from his skills as a builder and volunteer. During his retirement, Bo continued with his love of music, singing in a mixed chorus, a barbershop chorus, and playing the harmonica. He was quite a woodworker, building many pieces of beautiful furniture. He was known in the community for his expertise in fixing antique clocks. He is survived by Alma, his wife of 62 years and children, Barry Chlypavka of Gerrardstown, WV and Barbara Chlypavka of Oneida, NY. He was predeceased by his brother, John. There will be a memorial service at a later date. Memorial contributions in Bo's name may be made in his name to the United Church of Roscoe or to the Roscoe, NY O&W Museum.
