When the
interplanetary magnetic
field turns south compared to
Earth's magnetic field
(the arrow pointing below zero) geomagnetic
activity will increase.
The lower the arrow, the more that geomagnetic activity.
Green for low,
yellow for moderate, and red for
high solar
wind speed.
This new plot estimates the
VISIBILITY of auroral activity from any location
in the northern hemisphere, assuming a dark moonless sky and low light
pollution.
