CQWW 2001

 

Hello!!!!

For CQWW I work from Mark hill (caa.350m asl) caa.1km from my native town Sempeter (St.Peter).

On the top of the hill is "Lodging hause MARK "- (property of enterprise witch I’m employed -TNX for hospitality& patientce).

In past I work from there in many contests VHF & HF. This location seams to be OK for HF contesting is wide open and in proximity of sea -Trieste gulf in N.Adriatic near- 15km .I decide to run only 10m LOW power (100w).Two week’s before the contest start I erect a 10m mast on the roof /top of the building (roof is caa. 12m above ground) with a small rotor and 4 el. beam for 10m and 10m 5/8 vertical .After a few “little” problems with rising a mast ,ancoring , extend coax cables ,fix the rotor,setup the antennas (TNX S57VAH for help) "we" finish the job in 2 3/4 hours.Some days before contest start’s I bring on location the PC for loging and my tranciver the old Kenwood TS-690s.Few chek up’s on rig and than I start to call around the band to see how it work & look’s (that termin sollar activity).After tresting i went to home satisfied and I have in mind that for the first time since I contesting I have success to finish the preparations in time and the time to rest in peace- for a few day’s before contest ( I’ll work hard till last minute-Job,house work,other casuality’s, "Murphy", etc…)The great event beginning.I was ready on my position behind my rig & PC.I start around 5 gmt (10m SOSB LOW POWER).After few ours of contesting " mr.Murphy" come’s to visit me- the Heill headphones cable adapter was blow -it pull’s up ( wondering how…?).It was possible to listen but mic doesn’t work.On my luck a take with me my old table mic the Kenwood MC-80.I turned on the VOX function on my tranciver and in combination with heill headphones I continue to contesting.A few shakes and the caravane goes ahead    HIHI….

Around11.00 GMT anoter unespected funny but serius incident happen which deconcentrate me as well.As I tell you I’ll run the contest from a tavern soo you imagine how is contesting in a garret specialy when cook’s been roast some fishes & other goodness on grill.Since day before i did't eat anything because of flurry so I was hungry for good. It realy deconcentrating….belive me now I know 100%. HIHI….(of course cook after my constantly complying he has atoned for his "culinary misdeeds " and repay me with a portion of “Calamari”- ( fried ink fish) .......... mmmmmmmmm ....CQCONTEST.!!! ...mmmm….QRZZZ!!!…mmmm!!!)

Jokes apart this holds true for a poverb "good soldier is satiety soldier" hihi..

The ventilation of the kitchen below cause me some noise from time to time (other times not) also the RF - but I fix the problem's with some ferit rings.

Activity in air was good excpt of "some" noise from “biger” (full power) stations-neighbours from IV3 & some S5 locals and form UA direction.That’s one the funy things of low power realy --- you never stop to run ….what a maraton …

Around 17.30 UTC Murphy strike’s again this time a fuse of power supply has blown…..don’t ask me for a reason ..because I don’t know ….maybe overheat ..(must ask experts)…Again my caution to bring a reserve fuse with me …otherwise….GOOD NIGHT CQWW CONTEST !!!

Night comes and the contest was in full progress.Activity "runs" till 22.45 UTC when I made a last qso for that night .Than I decide to go home to take a bath and have some sleep till 3.30 UTC next day and than restart again in direction JA,UA ….

I didn’t sllep for along time because of a "toothache" pain. S-o for a few minutes I belive that Murphy did it again but I dont think soo…probably to some air currents a day before did..It can be worse but it doesn’t…second day was realy a ”little”worse in comparision of first but what "we"can do abaut that...I made a few mistakes during the contest I know .....one of them is 100% CQ-ing for too much time (CQ for low power ....it's better to run continually and collect ) ….but…sometimes you expect much more,you try a big throw.... than you make mistakes....

At final on all of my mistakes I "learn" a lot for a future so the “show” will go on….next time....in next contest ,armed with new cognition and experience...hihi ( i'll be satiated for good ..) aslo need a new rig.....it's time to save some money....
