Perseids 2003 I only had 24 hours available this time. As usually during main showers I was QRV from JN75DS, 1268m asl. After 6 tries in last three years finally complete QSO with Clive, GM4VVX. We were lucky with 30s burst on SSB as HSCW sked few hours prior was NC because of QRM from PA-SV stations using the same frequency. Who said that HSCW is dead, hi! NIL in sked with RK3PWJ but found them later on random. Nice reflections from LA8G on SSB(2050km) but couldn't get roger through pile up. FSK frequency they used was to close to .370. Nice reflections also from other expeditions: sk5cr/3, lz1bb/p and ea3bb/2 and, of course, from la0by/p. On long distance skeds (sm2ilf, sm2cew and oh8nxe; all over 2100km) few pings were heard but all QSOs NC. Due to non-stop CQ-ing on .370 in 1st period by ha5kdq any QSO towards East was impossible for more than 15 hours. This was really disappointing. It is evident that only one calling frequency for FSK is not enough (at least not in central EU). In the morning on 13th Aug G7RAU has been worked as s first G station ever on tropo from jn75ds. 12082003 13.30-14.10 RA3IS KO76 26 26 2b2p S FSK C? 16.00-16.50 EA1YV IN52 26 26 2b3p S FSK C 19.00-20.00 F0DSJ JN17 26 - 1b S SSB NC 22.00-22.17 LZ1BB/p KN43 27 27 5p S FSK C 22.58 LA0BY/P JO39 37 49 1b R SSB C 13082003 00.00-01.00 GM4VVX IO78 26 - 2b7p5" S HSCW NC 01.00-01.10 GM6VXB IO97 27 26 S FSK C 01.20-02.00 LA8G JP44 27 27 R SSB NC 02.00-03.00 SV3CYM KM08 26 26 2b1p S SSB NC 03.55-04.17 SK5CR/3 JP63 27 36 3b1p R FSK C 05.30-05.41 GM4VVX IO78 26 26 1b30" S SSB C 05.50-05.53 EA3BB/2 IN91 27 27 R FSK C 06.00-06.45 SM3BIU JP73 26 26 2b1p28" S FSK C 07.00-08.00 SM3KYH JP82 26 - 1p S FSK NC 08.00-09.00 SM2ILF KP04 - - S FSK NC *1 09.00-10.00 OH8NXE KP25 26 - 1p S FSK NC *2 10.00-10.35 SM2CEW KP15 - - S FSK NC *3 11.50-12.34 RK3PWJ KO83 26 27 R FSK C 13.00-14.00 RZ3QZ LO00 - - S FSK NC *1 - 2139km *2 - 2251km *3 - 2269km NIL: SM6VTZ Equipment: FT1000MP + XVRT 14/144 JAVORNIK by S53WW, HM PA GS35b (1kW), 2x15 el. I started MS activity on 11th Aug with soldering in the PA, later lost PR connection on 70cm, had to repair power generator, had several memory fails on the computer and spent some time trying to make WSJT work but "time error 6" was to strong although it worked OK week before maximum. Portable work really makes differences! On the 13th Aug there was a great tropo opening towards EA. I managed to work: EA6VQ (JM19), EB6ADS (JM29), EA7GBG (IM67), EA5YB (IM99), EA5EZJ (IM98) and EA5AFP (IM98). Unfortunately, I had to leave JN75DS when band was still open. I came on location with no skeds at all, and have made all QSOs on random with exception of G0KPW. I found him on digital c 14345. I tried to arrange some other skeds on this mode but links toward West and North Europe didn't work well. I have found solid reflections, with the maximum around 2-3 p.m. on 12 Aug. Reflections were not so long and frequently as last year but still good enough for SSB work. All station with distance near 2000 km I have made QSOs with (OH1XT, OH1AYQ, MS0ACG/p) had excellent signals. I am a little disappointed that I had no long distance skeds. I have to mention that working on the random frequency on the contest location is not an easy job. So, I would like to apologize to all who called me with no success. 9A4GL software was used for the the first time. I must say that Tihomir really made great job. OK, it took me almost all week to prepare my desk computer to became familiar with SW (after several CMOS crashes, hi) and I didn't succeed with Toshiba notebook. I hope that Tihomir will solve known bags, especially recording without period time change on.
