***[HANDLING OF FLOPPY DISKS]***

Observe the following points when handling the provided floppy disk:

* Never touch the magnetic surface of the floppy disk.
* Keep magnets and magnetic objects away from the floppy disk.
* Do not bend the floppy disk.
* Do not place the floppy disk in dusty, wet, humid, dry, hot, nor cold 
  areas.
* Always inserts the floppy disk back into the plastic cases after use.



1  INTRODUCTION
================

KPG-48D software is a tool for programming TK-2100, TK-3100 or TK-3101 
transceivers. Using this software, first enter programming data into the 
appropriate computer, then transfer the data to a transceiver.  You can 
print out that data from a printer.  You can also retrieve data from a 
transceiver to edit on the computer.

Your programming software package includes the followings:

* floppy disk (3.5", 1.44MB)
    KPG-48D PROGRAMMING DISK
* Installation sheet


***[APPLICABLE TRANSCEIVERS]***

This programming software supports the following transceivers:

TK-2100 (VHF)
TK-3100 (UHF)
TK-3101 (UHF)


***[HARDWARE/ SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS]***

< Computer >
The software was designed for use on IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2 and compatible 
computers with Conventional Memory capacity of at least 350kB.

< Operating system (OS) >
The operating system must be IBM DOS Version 3.1 (or later) or equivalent.

< Communication port >
The computer must have a serial communication port to connect with a 
transceiver.  This port must be compatible with an IBM asynchronous 
communications adapter. You may use the COM1 or COM2 port on the computer.

< Connection cable >
Use a KPG-8 or KPG-22 cable to connect the computer with the transceiver.



2  CONNECTING THE EQUIPMENT
=============================

1. Switch OFF the power to the computer.

2. Connect the 25-pin connector on the KPG-8 or KPG-22 cable to the COM1 
   or COM2 port on the computer.  If the COM port has 9 pins, use a 
   commercially available 9-pin/25-pin adapter.

3. Switch ON the power to the computer.

4. Switch OFF the power to the transceiver.

5. Connect the other end of the KPG-8 or KPG-22 cable to the Speaker-Mic
   Jacks on the transceiver.

6. Switch ON the power to the transceiver.



3   INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
=============================

After completing all physical connections, you are ready to install the 
programming software. 
The KPG-48D software requires a destination drive with 300kB free space.


***[INSTALLING ON A HARD DISK]***

This procedure assumes the hard disk is used as drive C.

1. Insert the "KPG-48D PROGRAMMING DISK" into drive A.

2. Type "A:" then press [Enter].
   "A:\>" appears on the computer display.

3. Type "INSTALL C:" then press [Enter].
   The installation program copies the necessary files from the source disk 
   in drive A to the hard disk.


***[INSTALLING ON ANOTHER FLOPPY DISK]*** 

This procedure assumes the source drive as A, and the destination drive as 
B.

1. Insert the "KPG-48D PROGRAMMING DISK" into drive A.

2. Insert a floppy disk (destination disk: 1.2MB or 1.44MB), that will 
   receive the software, into drive B.

3. Type "A:" then press [Enter].
   "A:\>" appears on the computer display.

4. Type "INSTALL B:" then press [Enter].
   The installation program copies the necessary files from the source disk 
   in drive A to the destination disk in drive B.

***[PROGRAMMING METHODOLOGY]***

This section shows the logical process of 3 typical programming 
operations.

Note:  When data is transferred from the computer to the transceiver 
       (Program Write) or vice versa (Program Read), the transceiver 
       automatically will enter PC mode.


**[CREATING AND WRITING NEW DATA TO A TRANSCEIVER]**

1. Specify the transceiver model. (Model/Model type setup)

2. Modify the default data. (Edit)

3. Write the data to the transceiver. (Program/Write to radio)

4. Save the data to a disk. (File/save As)


**[MODIFYING DATA PREVIOUSLY WRITTEN TO A TRANSCEIVER]**

1. Read the desired data from the transceiver. (Program/Read from radio)

2. Modify the data. (Edit)

3. Write the data to the transceiver. (Program/Write to radio)

4. Save the data to a disk. (File/save As)


**[MODIFYING DISK DATA, THEN WRITING TO A TRANSCEIVER]**

1. Read the desired data from a disk. (File/Load)

5  BASIC OPERATIONS
====================

***[STARTING THE PROGRAM]***

After correctly installing the software, you can now start the program and 
learn the methods for programming TK-2100, TK-3100 or TK-3101 transceivers.

1. Make the directory containing the installed programming software the 
   current directory.
   If you installed the software on a floppy disk, first insert the floppy 
   disk into a drive, then make that drive the current drive.

2. Type "KPG48D" then press [Enter].
   The program starts and the Introductory screen appears.  If an error 
   occurs, try reinstalling the program (see "3  INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE").


***[EXITING THE PROGRAM]***

When you have finished programming, close the program correctly rather than 
simply turning off the computer.

1. Press [Alt] to activate the Menu bar.

2. Press the right- or left-arrow key to open the File menu.
   Move the cursor to "eXit" using the up- or down-arrow key, then press 
   [Enter], or simply press the Quick key; the capitalized letter in this 
   case "X".  Pressing [F3] also opens this window.

3. Select [Ok] using the [SPACE BAR], or the right- or left-arrow key, then 
   press [Enter].  Alternatively, press the Quick key "O" if you prefer.  
   The program closes and the DOS prompt appears.

4. If running the program from a floppy disk, remove the disk from its 
   drive.

5. Switch OFF the power to the computer.

6. Switch OFF the power to the transceiver.


***[INITIAL SCREEN]***

After starting the program, pressing any key clears the Introductory screen 
and opens the Initial screen.

The Initial screen consists of the following three sections:

* Menu bar (top)
* Channel Information window (center)
* Key summary (bottom)

< Menu bar >
The Menu bar contains the titles of available menus.  The menus are used to 
open windows to edit and/or process data, and to execute commands.

< Channel Information window >
The Channel Information window shows various data currently set.

< Key summary >
The Key summary lists currently available keys.


***[SELECTING AND ENTERING DATA]***

You will select or enter data either while an interactive window is visible 
(prompted input) or while no interactive window is visible (non-prompted 
input).


**[PROMPTED INPUT]**

While using File, Model, Program, Setup, or some Edit menu functions, 
various interactive windows open to prompt you to select or enter 
appropriate data.  Use one of the following methods:

< Arrow keys >
Use the right-, left-, up-, or down-arrow key to select the appropriate 
item, then press [Enter].

< Quick keys >
Enter the capitalized letter to select the appropriate item.  For example, 
press "O" to select "[Ok]".  If you are using a color display, capitalized 
letters appear in a different color from other characters.   

< Keyboard >
Enter the appropriate data using the keyboard, then press [Enter].


**[NON-PROMPTED INPUT]**

When using some Edit menu functions, use one of the following methods to 
select data.

< [SPACE BAR]/ [Shift]+ [SPACE BAR] >
Press to cycle through available choices at the current cursor position.  
Pressing [SPACE BAR] changes selections in one direction; pressing [SHIFT]+ 
[SPACE BAR] changes selections in the opposite direction.

< [F2]/ [Shift]+ [F2] >
Press to cycle through available choices at the current cursor position.  
Pressing [F2] changes selections in one direction; pressing [Shift]+ [F2] 
changes selections in the opposite direction.



6  USING THE MENU
==================

***[MENU OVERVIEW]***

The Menu bar is at the top of the Initial screen, above the Channel 
Information window.  There are six menu titles on the Menu bar.  To 
activate the Menu bar, press [Alt].  Use the right- or left-arrow key to 
select the desired menu title.  Press [Alt] or [Esc] to deactivate the Menu 
bar.

< File >
The File menu allows you to create, save, open, delete, and print data 
files, and to quit the program.

< Model >
The Model menu is used to specify the model of the transceiver to be 
programmed.

< Edit >
The Edit menu allows you to assign various functions to the desired key on 
the transceiver, and to configure transceiver functions that are not 
programmed from the Channel Information window.

< Program >
The Program menu allows you to read data from and write data to the EEPROM 
in the transceiver.  This menu also allows you to access the Test mode.

< Setup >
The Setup menu allows you to select a communication port on the computer to 
connect with the transceiver via the KPG-8 or KPG-22 cable.  
Other configurable items include the color scheme for the screen as well as 
the drive and path name for access to the Help file.

< F1=Help >
The Help menu offers General, Keyboard help and About KPG-48D.


***[MENU DETAILS]***

This section describes the menu items selectable under the menu titles and 
shows how to operate these menu items.  Use the up- or down-arrow key to 
select the desired menu item, then press [Enter], or simply use a quick key.
For the methods of selecting or entering data for each menu item, see "***
[SELECTING AND ENTERING DATA]***" in chapter 5. 


**[FILE]** 

< New >
The New function clears any currently loaded, read or created data file. 
All program data screens will be set to defaults.

1. When "New" is selected, the warning message appears. 

2. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]". When "[Ok]" is selected, all data is 
   initialized by reading the default data file. 

   Note1: Default data files are automatically installed in the same 
          directory of the Help file. You must set the Help Path first.

   Note2: A read file is automatically chosen according to the setting of 
          "Model Type Setup".

   Note3: There are 3 default data files for each target model. 
          All default data file's name are "_default", but extensions are 
          different.
              "_default.v00" --- TK-2100
              "_default.u00" --- TK-3100
              "_default.u01" --- TK-3101

   Note4: If default data files do not exist in the Help Path, the Channel 
          Information data (Receive, Transmit, Dec, and so on) displays 
          blank.  


< Load >
The Load function reads a data file saved on a hard disk or floppy disk, 
then writes the file into the buffer memory of your computer. 
You may change the loaded file, write it to the transceiver, or print it 
out.

1. When "Load" is selected, the "Drive & Path" window opens, and displays 
   the currently selected drive and path name.

2. Type the drive and path name of the desired file, then press [Enter]. 
   The "Directory" window opens and displays the name(s) of the file(s) on 
   that path.  Data files have "DAT" extensions.

   Note1: If the entered drive does not contain a disk, the error message 
          appears.  Press any key, insert the correct disk in the specified 
          drive, then press [Enter].

   Note2: If the entered drive or path does not exist, the error message 
          appears. Press any key, correct the drive or path name, then 
          press [Enter].

   Note3: If no file is found under the drive and path name, an error 
          message appears. Press any key, correct the drive and path names, 
          then press [Enter].

3. Select the desired file name, then press [Enter].  The "Load file name" 
   window opens.

4. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".


< Save(=F4) >
The Save function saves the created or revised file to the drive, path, and 
file name previously selected.

1. Select "Save(=F4)". If the same file name exists under the current path, 
   the warning message appears. If the same file name does not exist under 
   the current path, the "Save file name" window opens.

2. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".


< save As >
The save As function saves the current file to the drive, path, and file 
name that you specify.

1. When "save As" is selected, the "Drive & Path" window opens and displays 
   the currently selected drive and path name.

2. Type the desired drive and path names, then press [Enter].  The "Save 
   file name" window opens.

   Note1: If the entered drive does not contain a disk, the error message 
          appears. Press any key, insert the correct disk in the specified 
          drive, then press [Enter].

   Note2: If the entered drive or path does not exist, the error message 
          appears. Press any key, correct the entered drive or path name, 
          then press [Enter].
 
3. Type the desired file name, then press [Enter]. The save file name 
   confirmation window opens.

   Note1: If you prefer, press [F9] to open the "Directory" window.  Select 
          the desired file name, then press [Enter] twice.

   Note2: If the same file name exists under the current path, the warning 
          message appears.

4. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".


< Delete >
The Delete function allows you to delete unnecessary files from the desired 
disk thereby freeing up disk space.

1. When "Delete" is selected, the "Drive & Path" window opens and shows 
   the currently selected drive and path name.

2. Type the desired drive and path name, then press [Enter].  The 
   "Directory" window opens.

   Note1: If the entered drive does not contain a disk, the error message 
          appears.  Press any key, insert the correct disk in the specified 
          drive, then press [Enter].

   Note2: If the entered drive or path does not exist, the error message 
          appears. Press any key, correct the entered drive or path name, 
          then press [Enter].

   Note3: If no file exists under the entered drive and path names, the 
          error message appears. Press any key, enter drive and path names, 
          then press [Enter].

3. Select a file name, then press [Enter].  The "Delete file name" window 
   opens.

4. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".  After erasing the last file in the current 
   directory, the System Information window opens; otherwise, the 
   "Directory" window opens again.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to delete all unnecessary files.   


< Print(=F5) >
The Print function directs data to the printer.  The data may have been 
created, loaded from a disk, or read from the transceiver.  The information 
you can print includes the followings:
 * File Name
 * Model Type
 * Key Assignment
 * Optional Features
 * Table Data / Channel Setting (TK-2100/3100)
 * Channel / Bank Setting (TK-3101) 
 * Signalling Table

1. When "Print(=F5)" is selected, the "Print out list" window opens.

2. Press the up- or down-arrow key to select the item to be printed.

3. Press [SPACE BAR] or [F2] to select [Yes].

4. Press [F5] to open the "Edit data print out" window.

5. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".  If the printer is not ready, an error
   message appears.  Check the printer, then select "[Ok]" or 
   "[Cancel]".


< Go to dos >
The "Go to dos" function allows you to temporarily exit the program and go 
back to the DOS prompt.

1. When "Go to dos" is selected, the "Type EXIT to return to FPU" message 
   and the DOS prompt appear.

2. To restore the previous screen, type "exit" then press [Enter].

   Note: The KPG-48D software can support this command only if your 
         computer has sufficient memory.


< eXit (=F3) >
The exit function quits the program completely and restores the DOS prompt.

1. When "eXit (=F3)" is selected, the "Return to DOS!" window opens.

2. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".


**[MODEL]** 

< Model type setup >
The Model menu is used to specify the model of the transceiver to be 
programmed.  

1. When "Model type setup" is selected, the "Model type setup" window 
   opens.

2. Select the desired item ("Model Type" or "Ch Type").  For details on the 
   selected item, press [F1] to access the Help file.

3. Change the setting.

4. Press [Alt] or [Esc] to complete the setting.

   Note: When switching the "Model Type", the warning message appears to 
         remind you that all data currently displayed will be initialized. 
         Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".


**[EDIT]** 

The Edit Menu is used to enter or edit data needed by the transceiver for 
operating.

< Signalling Table >
Editing the contents of the "Signalling Table" which is used to set the 
QT/DQT data on the Channel Information.

The radio memorizes the whole Signalling Table and the user can change 
the selected channel's signalling even if the channel has no signalling 
setting. 

See the Instruction Manual on how to change the signalling.

1. When "Signalling table" is selected, the "Signalling Table" window 
   opens.

2. Select the desired box number.

3. Press [F2] for the QT/DQT list.

4. Select the desired signalling data.

5. Press [Enter] to set the selected data into the selected box and close 
   the QT/DQT list.

   Note: It is possible to directly enter signalling data via the keyboard 
         instead of using the QT/DQT list. When entering DQT data, enter 
         "D" (for DQT) for the first digit and "N" (for Normal) or "I" (for 
         Inverse) for the last digit.  For example, type 71.9 [Enter] to 
         store QT tone 71.9 Hz, type D023N [Enter] to store DQT code 023 
         Normal, or type D754I [Enter] to store DQT code 754 Inverse. The 
         program automatically inserts "N" for Normal if neither Normal nor 
         Inverse is specified.

6. Press [Alt] or [Esc] to complete the setting.


< Key Assignment >
Key Assignment programs the MONI key on the transceiver side panel.  
The following options are available: Monitor Momentary, Monitor Lock, 
SQ Off Momentary, or Off.

Monitor Momentary : Carrier Squelched while pressing the key.
Monitor Lock      : Press the key toggles the Carrier Squelch/Tone Squelch 
                    function.
SQ Off Momentary  : Unmuted while pressing the key. 
Off               : The MONI key has no function.

1. When "Key assignment" is selected, the "Key Assignment" window opens.

2. Change the settings by pressing the space bar, [Shift]+space bar, [F2], 
   or [Shift]+[F2], then press [Enter].

3. Press [Alt] or [Esc] to complete the setting.


< Optional features >
Allows configuration of optional features on the transceiver.

1. When "Optional Features" is selected, the "Optional Features" window 
   opens.

2. Select the desired item. For details on the selected item, press [F1] 
   to access the Help window.

3. Change the setting.

   Note: Change the settings by pressing the space bar or [F2]. For 
         functions the "Time Out Time" and "Squelch level", there are two 
         methods of inputting the desired value:
           * Direct Input : Type the desired value with the numeric 
                            keys on the keyboard, then press [Enter].
           * Selection    : Press the space bar or [F2] to increase 
                            selection, press [Shift]+space bar or 
                            [Shift]+[F2] to decrease selection.

4. Press [Alt] or [Esc] to complete the setting.


**[PROGRAM]** 

< Read from radio >
This function reads data from the transceiver

1. When "Read from radio" is selected, the "Read from radio" window opens.

2. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".

   Note: If communication with the transceiver is not possible for any 
         reason, the "Check Connection Error" window opens.  Confirm that 
         the transceiver is correctly connected to the computer via a KPG-8 
         or KPG-22 cable, then select "[Retry]". 


< Write to radio >
This function writes the selected data to the transceiver.

1. When "Write to radio" is selected, the "Write to radio" window opens.

2. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".  Selecting "[Ok]" writes data into the 
   transceiver.  Selecting "[Cancel]" aborts the write function and 
   re-displays the Program menu.

3. When writing is complete, a completion status window opens.  Press any 
   key.

   Note: If communication with the transceiver is not possible for any 
         reason, the "Check Connection Error" window opens.  Confirm that 
         the transceiver is correctly connected to the computer via a KPG-8 
         or KPG-22 cable, then select "[Retry]".


< Test Mode >
This function allows you to test various aspects of the transceiver.

CAUTION:  ALWAYS CONNECT A 50 OHM DUMMY LOAD PRIOR TO TRANSMITTING.
          BEFORE ENTERING THE TEST MODE, YOU MUST EXECUTE EITHER A READ 
          FROM RADIO OR WRITE TO RADIO.

1. When "Test mode" is selected, the "Test Mode Channel & Signalling" 
   window opens. 

2. Move the cursor to "Channel" using the right- or left-arrow key, and 
   select the desired channel using the up- or down-arrow key, then press 
   [Enter].

3. Move the cursor to "Signalling" using the right- or left-arrow key,
   and select the desired signalling data using the up- or down-arrow key, 
   then press [Enter].

4. Press [SPACE BAR] or [F2] to toggle between transmit and receive.

5. Press [Alt] or [Esc] to end the Test Mode. 

Note: If communication with the transceiver is not possible for any 
      reason, the "Check Connection Error" window opens.  Confirm that 
      the transceiver is correctly connected to the computer via a KPG-8 or 
      KPG-22 cable, then select "[Retry]".


< Tuning Mode >
To access the "Tuning mode" under the "Test mode", use the following steps:

1. While the "Test Mode Channel & Signalling" window is visible, select the 
   desired settings.

2. Press [F10] to open the "Tuning Mode" window.

3. Select the desired item, then press [Enter].  The corresponding window 
   opens.  For the descriptions of this window, access the window and use 
   [F1].


**[SETUP]** 

< Communication port >
Select either COM1 or COM2 as the port for communicating with the 
transceiver.  If the computer has only one communication port, the port is 
automatically set to COM1.

1. When "Communication port" is selected, the "Communication Port" window 
   opens.

   Note: If there is only a COM1 port on your computer, a window opens to 
         report this fact.  In this case, the communication port cannot be 
         changed.

2. Select either "[COM1]" or "[COM2]".

3. Press [Alt] or [Esc] to complete the setting.


< Display color >
Display color allows you to select the Color mode or Black & White mode.  
Color mode permits changing colors of the Menu bar, windows, messages, etc.  
Select either mode depending on the computer display.

1. When "Display color" is selected, the "Display Color Mode" window opens.

2. Select either "[Color]" or "[Black & White]".
     
   Note: When "[Color]" is selected, opens the "Setup Display Color" window
         and proceed the following steps:

3. Select the item that you wish to configure.

4. Select the desired color.  If you want to reset all colors to the 
   initial settings, press [F10].

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to select colors for the remaining items.

6. Press [Alt] or [Esc] to complete the setting.


< Help path >
Use Help path to select the drive and path name of the Help file and 
default data files. The Help file is called KPG48D.HLP and default data 
files are below:
         "_default.v00" --- TK-2100
         "_default.u00" --- TK-3100
         "_default.u01" --- TK-3101
These files are automatically loaded in the same folder as the program 
file upon using the install command for installation.

1. When "Help path" is selected, the "Drive & Path" window opens.

2. Type the drive and path name, then press [Enter] to complete the 
   setting.

   Note1: If the entered drive does not contain a disk, the error message 
          appears. Press any key, insert the correct disk in the specified 
          drive, then press [Enter].

   Note2: If the entered drive or path does not exist, the error message 
          appears. Press any key, correct the entered drive or path name, 
          then press [Enter].

   Note3: If the Help file is not found under the selected drive and path 
          name, the error message appears. Press any key, correct the drive 
          and path names, then press [Enter].

   Note4: The Help file can be moved to the directory of your choice.

For an explanation of the item at which the cursor is currently positioned, 
press [F1].  The corresponding window opens and explains the details.  
Pressing [F1] again opens a window that lists the menu items of the current 
menu title.  Pressing [F1] one more time opens a window that lists the menu 
titles.

The keys available while accessing help windows are listed at the bottom of 
the screen (Key summary section).  To close the window, press [Alt] or 
[Esc].

Keyboard help explains the functions of the keyboard keys.

1. When "Keyboard help" is selected, the "Keyboard Help" window opens.

< About KPG-48D >
Displays the information of the version, the copyright and so on.

1. When "About KPG-48D" is selected, the information window opens.

2. To close the window, press any key.


7  CHANNEL INFORMATION WINDOW
==============================

The Channel Information Window shows various data currently set. This 
window is normally displayed when the program is running. Using the arrow 
keys, move the cursor to the items that you want to input or change.

In case of editing the TK-2100 or TK-3100 data, table 1 to 8 are displayed.
Pressing [F2] opens the "Channel Setting" window. You can select 1 or 2 
channel(s) from any table that you want use.
See the Instruction Manual on how to change the channel(s) or signalling.

In case of editing the TK-3101 data, channel 1 to 15 are displayed.
TK-3101 is composed of two groups. These two groups are called the "Bank A" 
and "Bank B", and the contents of the display can be changed by pressing 
"[Page Up]" and "[Page Down]". 
You must select one of the "Banks" that you want to use.
See the Instruction Manual on how to change the bank or signalling.

< Receive >
The received frequency setting.

1. Place the cursor on the "Receive" frequency which is desired to be set.

2. Type the frequency data, then press [Enter].  The cursor will move to 
   the "Transmit" column of the same row.


< Transmit >
The transmitted frequency setting.

1. Place the cursor on the "Transmit" frequency.

2. Type the frequency data, then press [Enter].  The cursor will be move to 
   the "QT/DQT" of same row.

   Note: If the "Receive" frequency on the same row is blank, you can not 
         enter the data.


< QT/DQT >
The signalling data setting.

1. Place the cursor on the "Dec" or "Enc".

   Note: It is not possible to move the cursor from the "Dec" to the "Enc" 
         by pressing the right-arrow key. If you want to place the cursor 
         to "Enc", you place the cursor to "Shft" column, and back the 
         cursor to "Enc" by pressing the left-arrow key.

2. Press [F2] to appear the "Signalling Table" window.

   Note: Displayed in the "Signalling Table" can be edited in the 
         "Edit"-"Signalling Table" window. 

3. Select the desired signalling data using the arrow keys.

4. Press [Enter] to complete the setting and to close the "Signalling 
   Table" Window.


< Shft >
Shifts the microprocessor system clock frequency per table/channel to 
prevent interference.

1. Place the cursor on the "Shft".

2. Press [F2] or the Space bar to change the setting to "Yes" or "No".


< Channel Setting >
Select the radio channel(s) which you want to use from the table. 
(TK-2100 and TK-3100 only)

1. Place the cursor on "Receive" or "Transmit".

2. Press [F2] to open the "Channel Setting" window.

3. Select either "Ch 1" or "Ch 2" using the up- or down-arrow keys.

   Note: If the "Ch Type" setting is "1", "Ch 2" is not displayed on 
         the "Channel Setting" window..

4. Type the desired value with the numeric keys on the keyboard, then press 
   [Enter]. Or press [F2] or Space bar to change the setting.

5. Press [Alt] or [Esc] to complete the setting and close the "Channel 
   Setting" window.

   Note: Setting contents are displayed on the left side of the table 
         number.


< Bank Setting >
Select the radio frequency bank.(TK-3101 only)

1. Place the cursor on "Receive" or "Transmit".

2. Press [F2] to open the "Bank Setting" window.

3. Press [F2] or Space bar to change the setting to "A" or "B".

4. Press [Alt] or [Esc] to complete the setting and close the "Bank 
   Setting" window.

   Note: Setting contents are displayed on the right side of the model 
         name.


< Data Copy >
Copy all data of a row to another row.

1. Place the cursor on the row that is to be copied.

2. Press SHIFT + [F3] to open the "Data Copy" window.

3. Enter the destination table/channel number.

4. Press [Enter] to complete data copy.


< Data Delete Help >
Delete the current table/channel data row and go back all subsequent 
table/channel rows by one.

1. Place the cursor on the row that is to be deleted.

2. Press Shift + F10 to delete all data of that row.


< Inserting a blank row >
Inserts a blank table/channel row and moves the current table/channel 
data and all subsequent tables/channels to the next table/channel row.

1. Place the cursor on the row that to be inserted a blank row.

2. Press Shift + [F9] to insert a blank row.

   Note1: If the cursor is placed on the bottom row, this function is not 
         available. 

   Note2: When the bottom row is not blank, this function is not available.

 
 Keyboard Help
   *** [ Computer Keyboard Help ] ***
 This help describes the functions of the keyboard keys.

 [ESC]          : Returns to the main screen; called the Channel 
                  Information Screen. (exits menus & sub-screens)

 [ALT]          : "Go to menu" or "Go back" to previous screen. (exits 
                  Drive & Path screen)  

 Arrow Keys     : Moves cursor within a data input field; scrolls Help
                  screens.

 [PgUp] & [PgDn]: Pages up/down in General or Keyboard Help screens.
                  Change Bank A/B in the Channel Information Screen.

 [F1]           : Opens a Help window for the item of the current cursor 
                  position.

 [F2]           : Change the setting or increases selection of the current 
                  cursor position. (same as [SPACE BAR])
                  Opens "Signalling Table" window when the cursor is in 
                  QT/DQT field.
                  Opens QT/DQT list in "Signalling Table" window.

                  color setting to the defaults.
                  When in the "Test Mode", open the "Tuning Mode" window. 

 [Shift]+ [F2]  : Opposite function as [F2].

 [Shift]+ [F3]  : In the Channel Information Screen, open the 
                  "Data Copy" window.

 [Shift]+ [F9]  : In the Channel Information Screen, inserts the 
                  table/channel data space at the current cursor position. 

 [Shift]+ [F10] : In the Channel Information Screen, all of the 
                  table/channel data at the current cursor position are 
                  deleted.

 [HOME]         : Jumps to the first table/channel of the Channel 
                  Information Screen, or the first page of a help screen.

 [END]          : Jumps to the last table/channel of the Channel 
                  Information Screen, or the last page of a help screen.

 [ENTER]        : Enters data into a program field, or opens a selected
                  window.

 [SPACE BAR]    : Toggles yes/no feature selections, increases selection in 
                  data files, or clears data. (same as [F2]) TX and RX 
                  control while in the Test Mode. 

 [Shift]+ [SPACE BAR]
                : Opposite function of [SPACE BAR].


 About KPG-48D
 Displays the information of the version, the copyright and so on.

1. When "About KPG-48D" is selected, the information window opens.

2. To close the window, press any key.


 New File Help
 The New function clears any currently loaded, read or created data 
file. All program data screens will be set to defaults.

1. When "New" is selected, the warning message appears. 

2. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]". When "[Ok]" is selected, all data is 
   initialized by reading the default data file. 

   Note1: Default data files are automatically installed in the same 
          directory of the Help file. You must set the Help Path 
          first.

   Note2: A read file is automatically chosen according to the 
          setting of "Model Type Setup".

   Note3: There are 3 default data files for each target model. 
          All default data file's name are "_default", but extensions 
          are different.
              "_default.v00" --- TK-2100
              "_default.u00" --- TK-3100
              "_default.u01" --- TK-3101

   Note4: If default data files do not exist in the Help Path, the 
          Channel Information data (Receive, Transmit, Dec, and 
          so on) displays blank.  


 Load Help
 The Load function reads a data file saved on a hard disk or floppy 
disk, then writes the file into the buffer memory of your computer. 
You may change the loaded file, write it to the transceiver, or print 
it out.

1. When "Load" is selected, the "Drive & Path" window opens, and 
   displays the currently selected drive and path name.

2. Type the drive and path name of the desired file, then press 
   [Enter]. The "Directory" window opens and displays the name(s) of 
   the file(s) on that path.  Data files have "DAT" extensions.

   Note1: If the entered drive does not contain a disk, an error 
          message appears. Press any key, insert the correct disk in 
          the specified drive, then press [Enter].

   Note2: If the entered drive or path does not exist, an error 
          message appears. Press any key, correct the drive or path 
          name, then press [Enter].

   Note3: If no file is found under the drive and path name, an error 
          message appears. Press any key, correct the drive and path 
          names, then press [Enter].

3. Select the desired file name, then press [Enter].  The "Load file 
   name" window opens.

4. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".


 Save Help
 The Save function saves the created or revised file to the drive, 
path, and file name previously selected.

1. Select "Save(=F4)". If the same file name exists under the current 
   path, the warning message appears. If the same file name does not 
   exist under the current path, the "Save file name" window opens.

2. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".


 Save As Help
 The save As function saves the current file to the drive, path, and 
file name that you specify.

1. When "save As" is selected, the "Drive & Path" window opens and 
   displays the currently selected drive and path name.

2. Type the desired drive and path names, then press [Enter].  The 
   "Save file name" window opens.

   Note1: If the entered drive does not contain a disk, an error 
          message appears. Press any key, insert the correct disk in
          the specified drive, then press [Enter].

   Note2: If the entered drive or path does not exist, an error 
          message appears. Press any key, correct the entered drive 
          or path name, then press [Enter].
 
3. Type the desired file name, then press [Enter]. The save file 
   name confirmation window opens.

   Note1: If you prefer, press [F9] to open the "Directory" window.
          Select the desired file name, then press [Enter] twice.

   Note2: If the same file name exists under the current path, the 
          warning message appears.

4. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".


 Delete Help
 The Delete function allows you to delete unnecessary files from the 
desired disk thereby freeing up disk space.

1. When "Delete" is selected, the "Drive & Path" window opens and 
   shows the currently selected drive and path name.

2. Type the desired drive and path name, then press [Enter].  The 
   "Directory" window opens.

   Note1: If the entered drive does not contain a disk, an error 
          message appears.  Press any key, insert the correct disk in 
          the specified drive, then press [Enter].

   Note2: If the entered drive or path does not exist, an error 
          message appears. Press any key, correct the entered drive 
          or path name, then press [Enter].

   Note3: If no file exists under the entered drive and path names, 
          the error message appears. Press any key, enter the drive 
          and path names, then press [Enter].

3. Select a file name, then press [Enter].  The "Delete file name" 
   window opens.

4. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".  After erasing the last file in the 
   current directory, the System Information window opens; otherwise, 
   the "Directory" window opens again.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to delete all unnecessary files.   


 Print Help
 The Print function directs data to the printer.  The data may have 
been created, loaded from a disk, or read from the transceiver.  The 
information you can print includes the followings:
 * File Name
 * Model Type
 * Key Assignment
 * Optional Features
 * Table Data / Channel Setting (TK-2100/3100)
 * Channel / Bank Setting (TK-3101) 
 * Signalling Table

1. When "Print(=F5)" is selected, the "Print out list" window opens.

2. Press the up- or down-arrow key to select the item to be printed.

3. Press [SPACE BAR] or [F2] to select [Yes].

4. Press [F5] to open the "Edit data print out" window.

5. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".  If the printer is not ready, the 
   error message appears.  Check the printer, then select "[Ok]" or 
   "[Cancel]".


 Go to Dos Help
 The "Go to dos" function allows you to temporarily exit the program 
and go back to the DOS prompt.

1. When "Go to dos" is selected, the "Type EXIT to return to FPU" 
   message and the DOS prompt appear.

2. To restore the previous screen, type "exit" then press [Enter].

   Note: The KPG-48D software can support this command only if your 
         computer has sufficient memory.


 Exit Help 
 The exit function quits the program completely and restores the DOS
prompt.

1. When "eXit (=F3)" is selected, the "Return to DOS!" window opens.

2. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".


 Model Type Help
 The following models may be selected.
  * TK-2100 (VHF: 150 - 160 MHz)
  * TK-3100 (UHF: 460 - 470 MHz)
  * TK-3101 (UHF: 460 - 470 MHz)

Note: When you change the "Model Type" and exit the "Model Type 
      Setup", the warning message appears to notify you that all 
      data currently displayed will be initialized. Select "[Ok]" 
      or "[Cancel]". When you select "[Ok]", all data is initialized 
      by reading the default data file. When you select "[Cancel]", 
      the change is canceled. 


 Ch Type Help
 The following channel type may be selected.
  *  1  (TK-2100/3100)
  *  2  (TK-2100/3100)
  * 15  (TK-3101)


 Signalling Table Help
 Editing the contents of the "Signalling Table" which is used to set 
the QT/DQT data on the Channel Information.

The radio memorizes the whole Signalling Table and the user can 
change the selected channel's signalling even if the channel has no 
signalling setting. 

See the Instruction Manual on how to change the signalling.

1. When "Signalling table" is selected, the "Signalling Table" window 
   opens.

2. Select the desired box number.

3. Press [F2] for the QT/DQT list.

4. Select the desired signalling data.

5. Press [Enter] to set the selected data into the selected box and 
   close the QT/DQT list.

   Note: It is possible to directly enter signalling data via the 
         keyboard instead of using the QT/DQT list. When entering DQT 
         data, enter "D" (for DQT) for the first digit and "N" (for 
         Normal) or "I" (for Inverse) for the last digit.  For 
         example, type 71.9 [Enter] to store QT tone 71.9 Hz, type 
         D023N [Enter] to store DQT code 023 Normal, or type D754I 
         [Enter] to store DQT code 754 Inverse.  The program 
         automatically inserts "N" for Normal if neither Normal nor 
         Inverse is specified.

6. Press [Alt] or [Esc] to complete the setting.


 MONI Key Help
 The MONI Key can be programmed for one of four functions; 
Monitor Momentary, Monitor Lock, SQ Off Momentary or Off.

 Monitor Momentary: Carrier Squelched while pressing the key.
 Monitor Lock     : Press the key toggles the Carrier Squelch/Tone 
                    Squelch function.
 SQ Off Momentary : Unmuted while pressing the key. 
 Off              : The MONI key has no function.
 Default          : Off.

 Press [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to alternate selection.


 Time Out Timer Help
 Time Out Timer sets the maximum period of time a user is allowed to 
continuously transmit at any one instance.
 Upon time out, the radio's transmitter is automatically disabled 
until the PTT is released.

 Range  : Off/30 to 300 s (30 sec. steps)
 Default: 180 s

 Note: If you set this parameter to off, the transceiver will stop 
       transmission after 10 minutes.

 Press [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to increase selection.
 Otherwise, enter the required duration directly.


 Squelch Level Help
 Squelch Level is an analog reference level number that the radio's 
CPU uses to set the internal squelch threshold.
 This should be adjusted only when performing alignment using proper 
test equipment (see the Service Manual "Alignment" section).

 Range  : 0(Open) to 9(Tight)
 Default: 5(TK-2100)
          9(TK-3100,TK-3101)

 Press [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to increase selection.
 Otherwise, enter the required duration directly.


 Beep Tone Help
 The Beep Tones for Power on Tone, and Warning Tone (TOT tone, 
Busy Channel Lockout tone) are enabled or disabled by the FPU.

 Yes    :Enable the Beep Tones.
 No     :Disable the Beep Tones.
 Default:Yes.

 Press [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to alternate selection.


 Battery Save Help
 The Automatic battery saver, during standby operation, cycles 
the receiver circuit on & off to conserve battery life. 
 The "on" time is automatically selected by the current signal 
conditions.

 Enable : Enables the Battery Save function. 
 Disable: Disables the Battery Save function.
 Default: Enable.

 Press [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to alternate selection.


 Busy Channel Lockout Help
 TX is inhibited when the channel is busy.

 Yes    : Transmit inhibit while another party is using the channel
         (frequency).
 No     : Transmit enabled regardless of current channel conditions.
 Default: No.

 Press [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to alternate selection.


 Wide/Narrow Help
 Sets either wide or narrow bandwidth for the transceiver.

 Wide   : Wide bandwidth
 Narrow : Narrow bandwidth
 Default: Wide

 Press [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to alternate selection.


 Receive/Transmit Frequency Help
 --- Receive Frequency ---
Receive-only channels are allowed.
Frequencies can only be programmed using the proper step size.
Type the required receive frequency directly.

--- Transmit Frequency ---
Frequencies can only be programmed using the proper step size.
Type the required transmit frequency directly.

To delete table/channel data, 
 a)Place the cursor on the table/channel's receive frequency.
 b)Press and hold the <Delete> key until the receive
   frequency is erased.
 c)Hit <Enter>.

The table/channel data will be erased and left blank.
New table/channel data can be manually entered.


 QT/DQT Help
 Place the cursor on "Dec" or "Enc", and press [F2] to open the 
"Signalling Table" Window, then make selection.

Note: Displayed in the "Signalling Table" can be edited in the 
      "Edit"-"Signalling Table" window. 


 Beat Shift Help
 Shifts the microprocessor system clock frequency per table/channel 
to prevent interference.

Yes    : Enable the Beat Shift function.
No     : Disable the Beat Shift function.
Default: No.

Press [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to alternate selection.


 Data Copy Help
 Copy all data of a row to another row.

3. Select either "Ch 1" or "Ch 2" using the up- or down-arrow

   Note: If the "Ch Type" setting on the "Model" menu is "1", the 
         "Ch 2" is not displayed on the "Channel Setting" window.

4. Enter the destination channel number, or press [F2] / Space bar 
   to change the setting.

5. Press [Alt] or [Esc] to close the "Channel Setting" window.

   Note: Setting contents are displayed left of the table number on 
         the main screen.


 Bank Setting Help
 Select the radio frequency bank.(TK-3101 only)

1. Place the cursor on "Receive" or "Transmit".

2. Press [F2] to open the "Bank Setting" window.

3. Press [F2] or Space bar to change the setting to "A" or "B".

4. Press [Alt] or [Esc] to complete the setting and close the "Bank 
   Setting" window.

   Note: Setting contents are displayed under the menu bar.


 Read from Radio Help
 This function reads data from the transceiver

1. When "Read from radio" is selected, the "Read from radio" window 
   opens.

2. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".

   Note: If communication with the transceiver is not possible for 
         any reason, the "Check Connection Error" window opens.  
         Confirm that the transceiver is correctly connected to the 
         computer via a KPG-8 or KPG-22 cable, then select "[Retry]". 


 Write to Radio Help
 This function writes the selected data to the transceiver.
Verify that the Model Name in the current data matches that of the 
target radio you are about to program.

1. When "Write to radio" is selected, the "Write to radio" window 
   opens.

2. Select "[Ok]" or "[Cancel]".  Selecting "[Ok]" writes data into 
   the transceiver.  Selecting "[Cancel]" aborts the write function 
   and re-displays the Program menu.

3. When writing is complete, a completion status window opens.  Press 
   any key.

   Note: If communication with the transceiver is not possible for 
         any reason, the "Check Connection Error" window opens.  
         Confirm that the transceiver is correctly connected to the 
         computer via a KPG-8 or KPG-22 cable, then select "[Retry]".


 Test Mode Frequency Help
 Select one of the test channels.

1. Place the cursor on "Channel" using the left- or right-arrow 
   keys.

2. Press the up- or down-arrow keys to change test channels available 
   in the radio. 

3. Press [Enter] to complete the change.


 Test Mode Signalling Help
 Select one of the test signalling.

1. Place the cursor on "Signalling" using the left- or right-arrow 
   keys.

2. Press the up- or down-arrow keys to change signalling channels 
   available in the radio. 

3. Press [Enter] to complete the change.


 Frequency Tune
 Preset TX frequency adjustment.

Range  : 0 to 255 (steps of 1)
Default: Last Adjustment

Press the right- or left-arrow key to increase or decrease setting.
Press [Enter] to store the specified data in the transceiver. 


 RF Power
 Preset RF Power level adjustment.

Range  : 0 to 255 (steps of 1)
Default: Last Adjustment

Press the right- or left-arrow key to increase or decrease setting.
Press [Enter] to store the specified data in the transceiver. 


 Battery
 Preset Battery level adjustment.

Range  : 0 to 255 (steps of 1)

 Communication Port Help
 Select either COM1 or COM2 as the port for communicating with the 
transceiver.  If the computer has only one communication port, the 
port is automatically set to COM1.

1. When "Communication port" is selected, the "Communication Port" 
   window opens.

   Note: If there is only a COM1 port on your computer, a window 
         opens to report this fact.  In this case, the communication 
         port cannot be changed.

2. Select either "[COM1]" or "[COM2]".

 Help Path Help
 Use Help path to select the drive and path name of the Help file 
and default data files. The Help file is called KPG48D.HLP and 
default data files are below:
         "_default.v00" --- TK-2100
         "_default.u00" --- TK-3100
         "_default.u01" --- TK-3101
These files are automatically loaded in the same folder as the 
program file upon using the install command for installation.

1. When "Help path" is selected, the "Drive & Path" window opens.

2. Type the drive and path name, then press [Enter] to complete 
   the setting.

   Note1: If the entered drive does not contain a disk, an error 
          message appears. Press any key, insert the correct disk 
          in the specified drive, then press [Enter].

   Note2: If the entered drive or path does not exist, an error 
          message appears. Press any key, correct the entered drive 
          or path name, then press [Enter].

   Note3: If the Help file is not found under the selected drive and 
          path name, the error message appears. Press any key, correct 
          the drive and path names, then press [Enter].

   Note4: The Help file can be moved to the directory of your choice.
