 General Help
*** [ General Help ] ***
Along the top border of the main program screen (Channel Information) are
the "drop down" menus. Press [ALT] and use the arrow keys --> <-- to select
program section. Help is available for each menu by pressing the F1 key.
Pressing F1 will load it's Help screen. To get familiar with the
computer key functions used in the KPG-32D, press [ALT] now; select Keyboard
Help; press [ENTER].  Within a Help screen use the cursor up/down keys to
scroll, F5 to print a hard copy, and [ESC] or [ALT] to escape the screen.
Refer to the KPG-32D Instruction Manual for additional help.

**For Basic Instructions (use F1 for Help in each program section below)**

A. [CREATING PROGRAMMING DATA FOR A RADIO]
  1. Open the "Model" menu;
     Set the appropriate model type.
  2. Open the "Edit-Top/Side Key Assignment" menu;
     Assign functions to each key on the panel.
  3. Open the "Edit-Front Key Assignment" menu;
     Assign functions to each key on the DTMF mic.
  4. Open the "EDIT-Scan Information" menu;
     Set the SCAN features & parameters.
  5. Open the "EDIT-Optional Features" menu;
     Set the general built-in features.
  6. Open the "Edit-System Parameters" menu;
     Set the System features & parameters.
  7. Open the "Edit-Advanced Options-Decode Formats" menu;
     Set the Decode Format features & parameters.
  8. Open the "Edit-Advanced Options-Encode Formats" menu;
     Set the Encode Format feature & parameters.
  9. Open the "Edit-Advanced Options-Status Message" menu;
     Set the Status Message feature & parameters.
 10. Open the "Edit-Advanced Options-Queue Message" menu;
     Set the Queue Message feature & parameters.
 11. Open the "Edit-Advanced Options-Kenwood Toneset" menu;
     Set the Kenwood Tone feature & parameters.
 12. Hit ESC. the cursor will move to the main screen, "Channel Information
     Screen"

B. [Test Mode]
     Open the "Program-Test Mode" menu;
     Connect the radio correctly to measurement equipment.
     Set specific radio adjustments.

C. [PROGRAM A RADIO]
  1. Open the "Program" menu.
  2. Select "Write to Radio".

D. [SAVE PROGRAMMING DATA TO DISK FILE]
  1. Open "File" menu.
  2. Select "Save" for quick save to the "default" or "current" filename,
     or "Save As" to name or rename the file.

 Keyboard Help
*** [ Computer Keyboard Help ] ***
Available key functions are displayed at the bottom of the screen.

 ESC         : Returns to the main screen; called the Channel Information
               Screen. (exits menus & sub-screens).
 ALT         : "Go to menu" or "Go back" to previous screen.
 Arrow Keys  : Moves cursor within a data input field; scrolls help screens.
 PgUp & PgDn : Pages up/down General or Keyboard Help screens.
 F1          : Opens a Help screen.
 F2          : Toggles Yes/No feature selections or increases selection in
               data fields. (same as [SPACE BAR])
               Opens QT/DQT list when cursor is in QT/DQT field.
               TX and RX control while in the Test and Tuning Mode.
 F3          : Exits from this program and return to the DOS prompt.
 F4          : Saves the current program data with current file name.
 F5          : Prints the current data, Tuning data or Help screen.
 F7          : Next page (same as page up).
 F8          : Previous page (same as page down).
 F9          : Channel Insert (inserts a blank channel row and moves the
               current channel data & all subsequent channels to the next
               channel row).
 F10         : Opens Channel Edit when cursor is in Channel Information
               field.
 Shift+F2    : Opposite function as the [F2].
 Shift+F3    : Copies an entire channel to another channel.
 Shift+F4    : Copies an RX frequency column entry to a TX frequency column.
 Shift+F5    : Copies the data of QT/DQT from a QT/DQT decode column to the
               encode column.
 Shift+F6    : Changes the IF mixer input Frequency to the upper or lower
               mixer Frequency.
               (Needs hardware modifications, see S/M for details) 
 Shift+F9    : Channel Delete (deletes the current channel data row and
               go back all subsequent channel rows by one).
 HOME        : Jumps to channel 1 of the Channel screen, or to page 1 of
               a help screen.
 END         : Jumps to the last channel(Ch 250) of the Channel
               screen. Or to the last page of a help screen.
 ENTER       : Enters data into a program field, or opens a selected window.
 SPACE BAR   : Toggles Yes/No feature selections, increments selection in
               data files, or clears data. (same as [F2])
               TX and RX control while in the Test Mode.
 Shift+SPACE BAR : Opposite function to the [SPACE BAR].

 New File Help (CLEAR FILE)
The New function clears any currently loaded, read or created data
file.
All program data screens will be set to defaults.

 Load Help
The Load function is used to retrieve a stored data file from
a hard disk or floppy disk to be modified, viewed, written
(program a radio) or printed out.
A directory of stored files, sorted alphanumerically, will be
displayed for selection.

 Save Help
Saves the current program data with current file name.

 Save as Help
Saves with the option of assigning a "new" file name, or renaming
an existing file.

 Delete Help
The Delete function is used to remove any stored data files from
the directory of stored files.

 Print Help
Prints all radio programming data currently loaded into the program:
    - Model Type 
    - Top/Side Key Assignment
    - Front Key Assignment
    - Scan Information
    - Optional Features
    - System parameters
    - Decode Formats
    - Encode Formats
    - Status Message
    - Queue Messafe
    - Kenwood Toneset
    - Embedded Message

 Go to Dos Help
Go back to the DOS prompt temporarily.
Type EXIT and press [ENTER] to quit the DOS prompt and return to the
KPG-32D program.

Note: The KPG-32D program can support this command only if your
computer has sufficient memory.

 Exit Help
Quits this program and return to the DOS Prompt.

 TK-259 Help
Select the frequency version and voice scrambler type
of the radio to be programmed.

 Top/Side/Front Key Help
The key definition window allows assignment of key functions to each
of the key actions. Per button four key actions can be defined.
These key actions are press (executed immediately after pressing
the key), hold (executed after holding down the key),
shift (executed when the key is pressed after activation of the
shift function) and release (executed immediately after releasing
the key).

 Priority Channel Help
The 'priority' parameters selects the channel witch is watched
during operation of priority scanning.
Enter None when no priority channel is required.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Pref. Channel Help
The 'preference' parameters selects the default channel used for
speech transmission by pressing the PTT during operation of scanning.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Look Back Time Help
Priority channel checking intervals while receiving on a
non-priority channel.
The radios CPU chooses either Lookback time A or B depending on the
priority channel activity --Program both times.

Press the F2 ey or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

[Lookback A]
Priority channel is not busy (no carrier detected).
This time is typically set shorter than Lookback B, since the
priority ch. should be checked more often to prevent missing a call.

 Range   : 0.3 - 5.0s in 0.1s steps
 Default : 0.5s  

[Lookback B]
The priority channel is busy, but tone squelched.
This time is typically set long because the priority ch. is busy
with another caller using a different tone.

 Range   : 0.5 - 5.0s in 0.5s steps
 Default : 2.0s

 User Programming Help
Determines whether the user is allowed program the scan list and the
priority channel for the current scan group(Enable) or not(Disable).

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Time Out Timer Help
The 'time out timer (TOT)' parameter selects the maximum period
of time the user is allowed to transmit continuously by pressing
the PTT button.
After this period of time the transmitter is automatically
turned off.

 Range   : Off / 30 - 300s in 30s steps
 Default : 60s

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 TOT Pre-Alert Help
A separate timer used to emit a warning beep before the transmit TOT period 
expires.  For example, if the TOT is set to 200 seconds and the TOT pre-alert 
is set to 190 seconds, a warning beep will sound 10 seconds before the TOT 
expires.  If you enter a value that is higher than the transmit time-out 
value, no transmit warning will be generated.

 Range   : Off / 10 - 250s in 1s steps
 Default : Off

 TOT Rekey Help
The 'TOT rekey time' parameter selects the period of time the PTT is
inactive after expiring the transmit timeout.
This facility is useful to avoid continuous use of the radio channel
by one person only.

 Range   : Off / 1 - 60s in 1s steps
 Default : Off

 TOT Reset Help
Determines the period of time for the timeout timer (TOT) to reset
after the PTT button is released.

 Range   : Off / 1 - 15s in 1s steps
 Default : Off

 Control Tone Help
Beep tone at radio power up.
Keys and selector knob echo-back beeps.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Warning Tone Help
Time-out timer & Busy ch. lockout alert tones.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Normal Display Format Help
Determines the way in which the selcall information and channel
number is displayed.
If the display format is set to selcall, the transceiver will show
the selected selcall address in its default state.
If set to channel, the channel number will be shown instead.
When set to Both, the transceiver will show the channel number
as well as the selected selcall address.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Battery Save Help
Automatic battery saver during standby operation, the receiver
circuit is cycled on & off to conserve battery life.
The "on" time is automatically selected by the current signal
conditions.
The "off" time is selectable as below [off], [short], [medium],
and [long].

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to select.

 DTMF enc. Side Tone Help
Enable or disable the DTMF encode sidetone monitor function.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Channel Readout Help
This parameter defines one of the channel display method.
If set to 'Alphanum(eric)', the radio displays programmed
alphanumeric data per channel, and displays by numeric on the channel
without alphanumeric data.
If set to 'Numeric', the radio diplays the channels by numeric.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Invert Display Help
This parameter defines one of the channel display method.
If set to 'Enable', the radio can invert the channel display by the
key programmed 'Inverted dispaly'. Refer 'Key assinment'.
If set to 'Disable', the radio maintain normal display.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Lock Code Help
The radio lock code is entered in this field.
The lock code is a four digit numerical code, which is used to
temporary lock operation of the radio by the user.

 Keypad Operation Help
The 'keypad operation' parameter selects the default use of the
numerical field of the keypad.
When 'DTMF' is selected, the required mode must be selected first.
When 'selcall', 'channel' or 'status' is selected, the entry mode is
switched automatically to that mode when pressing the first digit.

 Number Entry Timeout Help
The 'number entry timeout' parameter selects the period of time the
radio returns to the default operating mode after selection of one
of the available entry modes (i.e. channel entry mode).

 Range   : 0 - 255s in 1s steps
 Default : 10s

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Rts Listen Period Help
The RtS (Return-to-Standby) listen period selects the period of time
the user can observe channel activity before placing a call.
After this period of time, the radio closes itself again.
Only active when RtS mode in the system parameters screen is set to
'Enable'.
 Range   : Off / 1 - 255s in 1s steps
 Default : Off

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Rts Active Period Help
The RtS (Return-to-Standby) active period selects the period of time
the user can listen and/or respond to a conversation before the
radio closes itself.
Only active when RtS mode in the systems parameter screen is set to
'Enable'.

 Range   : Off / 1 - 255s in 1s steps
 Default : Off

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Hold Delay Help
The 'hold delay' parameter determines the period of time the
emergency switch or button must be pressed before the function
(ex. emergency procedure) is activated.
Suggested value: 1s.
Enter value Off to disable this delay.

 Range   : Off / 10 - 2550ms in 10ms steps
 Default : Off

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Start Del. Required Help
This parameter selects whether a valid sequential call needs
a preceding period of silence or not.
The minimum period of silence is equal to the receive gap length,
programmed per system group.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Digit Entry Method Help
The 'digit entry method' selects if entry of digits for selcall
transmit overwrites the previous entered address (shift from right
to left), or is replaced first with the default transmit address
before overwrite.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Copy From Default Tx Help
The 'copy from default tx' parameter selects if the keypad
selectable selcall address is overwritten each time when changing
channels (Enable) or not (Disable).
Refer "Default TX address" in channel edit screen.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Startup Scan Help
Determines whether scanning is activated at transceiver switch-on or
not.
 0 - 9  : Activated scan group at transceiver is power-on.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Startup Monitor Help
The 'startup monitor' parameter selects if the radio is initially
open (Enable) or closed (Disable) for selective call operation.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Startup Encode Def. Help
The 'startup encode definition' selects the encode format executed
when switching on the radio.

Press SPACE BAR or the F2 key to select.

 Startup Channel Help
The 'startup channel' selects the channel selected when switching on
the radio.
 Channel number : Startup channel.
 Disable        : The channel at transceiver switch-off appears
                  again.

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Main Help
Enable or disable the Main Programming function.
This data is for factory use only.
Select Disable before delivering the radio to the end user to avoid
unintentional changes of the RADIO's OPERATING SYSTEM.
(see S/M for details)

 Panel Test Help
Enable or disable the Panel Test mode function.
(see S/M for details)

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Panel Tuning Help
Enable or disable the Panel Tuning mode function (factory use only).

Press the F2 key or SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Alert Volume Low Level Help
The 'Low level' parameter selects the low level of alert tone,
control tone and warning tone.
These tone levels are reset to the low level every time power is on.

 Range   : 1 - 256 in 1 steps
 Default : 110

 Alert Volume High Level Help
The 'High level' parameter selects the high level of alert tone,
control tone and warning tone.

 Range   : 1 - 256 in 1 steps
 Default : 200

 Selcall Toneset Standard Help
The 'selcall toneset standard' parameter determines which selcall
toneset standard is used for decoding selective call messages.
Note that the selcall standard that is used for encoding is defined
within the encode formats.

Press SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.
Press SHIFT key + F2 key to open the tone list.

 Receive Gap Period Help
The 'receive gap period' defines the period of time the selcall
decode algorithm requires a 'no-tone' condition after the last valid
tone has been received.
The recommended value for the receive gap period is 1.5 times the
duration per tone, for example, 150 ms for CCIR 100 ms.

 Range   : 0 - 640ms in 5ms steps
 Default : 1.5 times the duration per tone

Press SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Selectable Selcall Digits Help
The parameter 'selectable selcall digits' is used to define the
number of digits of the keypad selectable address that may be
changed by the user.
These keypad selectable digits are normally included in the transmit
selective call formats.

Press SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Selectable Status Digits Help
The parameter 'selectable status digits' is used to define the
number of digits of the status number that may be changed by the
user.

Press SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Busy Symbol Function Help
The parameter 'busy symbol function' determines the function of the
busy symbol on the display.
If set to 'Carrier', it will indicate presence of a carrier on the
selected channel.
If set to 'QT/DQT', it will indicate a carrier without or wrong
QT/DQT.

Press SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Busy LED Help
Select the busy LED funcion.
If set to 'Carrier', it will indicate presence of a carrier on the
selected channel.
If set to 'QT/DQT', it will indicate a carrier without or wrong
QT/DQT.
If set to 'disable', the busy LED function is disabled.

Press SPACE BAR to alternate between selections.

 Return-To-Standby Mode Help
The 'Return-to-Standby mode' parameter selects whether or not the
RtS facility is used.
If set to 'Disable', RtS does not operate.
If set to 'TX only', the RtS timer is retriggered while transmitting
in the active mode.
If set to 'TX/RX', the RtS timer is retriggered while transmitting

number in one string; for example, enter 156 to include the current
channel into scan groups 1, 5 and 6.

 System Reference Help
The 'system reference' parameter selects the system group for the
currently selected channel.
