 General Help
	*** [ General Help ] ***
 Along the top border of the main program screen (System Information or 
Merge information) are the "drop down" menus press [ALT]; use the cursor 
keys --> <-- to select a program section.
 Help is available for each menu by pressing the F1 function key.
 Pressing F1 while load its Help screen.
 To get familiar with the computer key functions used in the KPG-26D, press 
[ALT] now; select Keyboard Help; press [ENTER].
 Within a Help screen use cursor up/down to scroll, F5 to print a hard copy, 
and [ESC] or [ALT] to escape the screen.
 Refer to the KPG-26D Instruction Manual for additional Help. 

**Basic use instructions (use F1 for Help in each program section below)**

A. [CREATING PROGRAMMING DATA FOR A RADIO]
  1. Open the "MODEL" menu and select the appropriate frequency range.
  2. Open the "EDIT-Test Frequency" menu and enter 10 frequencies.
     These are used in the Tuning Mode. 
     (Hint: use [ALT] to return to the EDIT menu.)
  3. Open the "EDIT-Optional Feature" menu; set the general built-in 
    feature.
  4. Open the "PROGRAM-Test mode" menu; set specific radio adjustment.
  5. Hit ESC; the cursor will move the main screen, "System Information or 
    System Merge".
B. [PROGRAM A RADIO]
  1. Open the "PROGRAM" menu.
  2. Select "Write to Radio".
C. [SAVE PROGRAMMING DATA TO DISK FILE]
  1. Open the "FILE" menu.
  2. Select "Save" for quick save to the "default" or "current" filename, or 
    "Save As" to name or rename the file.

 Keyboard Help

 Available key functions are displayed at the bottom of the screen.

 ESC            : Returns to the main screen; System Information or System 
                 Merge (exits menus & sub-screens).
 ALT            : "Go to menu" or "Go back" to previous screen.
 Arrow Keys     : Moves cursor within a data input field; scrolls Help 
                 screens.
 PgUp & PgDn    : Pages up/down in General or Keyboard Help screens.
 F1             : Opens a Help screen.

 ([F2] through [F10] Selects labeled functions displayed at the bottom of 
  the screen.)

 F2             : Toggles yes/no feature selection or increase selection 
                 in data fields. (same as [SPACE BAR])
                  TX and RX control while the Test and Tuning Mode.
 F3             : Exit from this program and returns to the DOS prompt.
 F4             : Saves the current program data with current file name.
 F5             : Prints the current data, Tuning data or Help screen.
 F6             : Change Repeater Information.
 F7             : Next system.
 F8             : Previous system.
 F9             : Change System Data.
 F10            : Selects Fixed Revert Call.
 Shift+F2       : Opposite function as the [F2].
 Shift+F3       : Copies an entire group to another group.
 HOME           : Jumps to group 1 of the System Information screen, or to 
                 page 1 of a Help screen.
 END            : Jumps to the last group in the System Information screen, 
                 or to the last page of a Help screen.
 ENTER          : Enters data into a program field, or opens a selection 
                 window.
 SPACE BAR      : Toggles yes/no feature selection, increase selection in 
                 data files, or data clear. (same as [F2])
                  TX and RX control while the Test and Tuning Mode.
 Shift+SPACE BAR: Opposite function as the [SPACE BAR].

 New File Help (clear file)
 The New function clears any currently 
loaded, read or created data file.
 All program data screens will be set 
to defaults.

 Load Help
 The Load function is used to retrieve 
a stored data file from a hard disk or 
floppy disk to be modified, viewed, 
written (program a radio) or printed 
out.
 A directory of stored files, sorted 
alphabetically, will be displayed for 
selection.

 Save Help
 Saves the current program data with 
current file name. 

 Save As Help
 Saves with the option of assigning a 
"new" file name, or renaming an 
existing file.

 Delete Help
 The Delete function is used to 
remove any stored data files from the 
directory of stored files.

 Print Help
 Prints all radio programming data 
currently loaded into the program:
    - Model Name
    - File Name
    - Embedded Message
    - Optional Feature
    - Test Frequency
    - System Information

 Go to DOS Help
 Go back to the DOS prompt 
temporarily.
 Type EXIT and press [ENTER] to quit 
the DOS prompt and return to the 
KPG-26D.

 Note: The KPG-26D program can support 
      this command only if your 
      computer has sufficient memory.

 Exit Help
 Quits this program and returns to the 
DOS prompt.

 TK-353 Model Help
 TK-353 (400MHz): Maximum 16 systems, 
                  10 groups, 4 watts 
                  and 4 digits 
                  alphanumeric 
                  display.

 Move cursor and press [ENTER] to 
select a model.

 Test Frequency Help
 The radio can be programmed with Test 
Frequencies for alignment purposes.

 Type the required frequency directly.

 Time Out Timer (Dispatch) Help
 Microprocessor limits lengthy 
transmissions in the normal (dispatch)
mode.

 Range  : 15 to 600 s (15 s steps)
 Default: 60 s

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
increase selection.
 Otherwise enter required duration 
directly.

 Time Out Timer (Telephone) Help
 Microprocessor limits lengthy 
transmissions in the telephone mode.

 Range  : 15 to 600 s (15 s steps)
 Default: 180 s

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
increase selection.
 Otherwise enter required duration 
directly.

 Drop Out Delay Time Help
 Drop Out Delay Time interval is the 
time from the end of a received call 
to the time scan automatically 
resumes.

 Range  : 0 to 254 s (1 s steps)
 Default: 3 s

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
increase selection.
 Otherwise enter required duration 
directly.

 Dwell Time Help
 Dwell Time interval is the time from 
the end of transmission to the time 
scan automatically resumes.

 Range  : 0 to 254 s (1 s steps)
 Default: 3 s

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
increase selection.
 Otherwise enter required duration 
directly.

 Transpond Delay Time Help
 The Transpond Delay Time is the delay 
time from decode of a transpond 
enabled ID to the beginning of 
transpond transmission.

 Range  : 0 to 254 s (1 s steps).
 Default: 3 s

 If you attempt to set this time to 
greater than the Drop Out Delay Time, 
Transpond Delay Time will be set the 
same as the Drop Out Delay Time.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
increase selection.
 Otherwise enter required duration 
directly.

 TX Inhibit Time Help 
 Available on trunked systems only.
 TX Inhibit Time is the TX inhibit 
period after inhibited ID is detected.

 Range  : 0.5 to 8 s (0.5 s steps)
 Default: 5.0 s

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
increase selection.
 Otherwise enter required duration 
directly.

 S/A/B/C/Monitor Switch Help
 The switch can be programmed as one 
of the following function.

 System Scan: System Scan start/stop.
 Del/Add    : Deletes or adds the 
             current system from the 
             scan map.
 RF Low     : RF Low power function 
             On/Off switch.
 Monitor    : The Monitor provides two 
             functions: 
             1) Disable QT/DQT 
               squelching on 
               conventional systems 
             2) Option Signalling 
               reset switch for group 
               programmed with DTMF 
               Decode.
 Fixed Call : Reset radio to a 
             preprog. System/Group.
 ALP/sys.grp: Toggle display between 
             alphanumeric or the 
             Sys# and Grp#.
 Auto Tel   : Automatically searches 
             for a vacant telephone 
             channel. (trunked systems 
             only)
 System Up  : Sys# Up switch.
 System Down: Sys# Down switch.
 Group Up   : Grp# Up switch.
 Group Down : Grp# Down switch.
 None       : No function.
 Default    : (S Switch) None/

 Knob Select Help
 Select knob function between 
"SysUp/Down" and "GrpUp/Down".

 SysUp/Down: Up or down the Sys#.
 GrpUp/Down: Up or down the Grp#.

 Revert System Type Help
 Revert System Type is the 
programmable transmit destination 
system/group during scanning.

 Last Used  : Last transmitted system/
             group.
 Last Called: Last received system/
             group.
 Default    : Last Called.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
alternate selection.

 Free System Ring Back Help
 Available on trunked systems only.
 The radio will "ring back" ever when
it detects a free interconnect 
channel.

 Yes    : Enable the Free System Ring 
         Back function.
 No     : Disable the Free System Ring 
         Back function.
 Default: No.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
alternate selection.

 Clear to Talk Beep Help
 Upon successful access of a trunked 
system this beep tone sounds to alert 
the user they can begin speaking.

 Yes    : Enable the Clear to Talk 
         Beep function.
 No     : Disable the Clear to Talk 
         Beep function.
 Default: Yes.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
alternate selection.

 System Search Help
 While a selected system is busy (the 
radio sounds an intercept tone) upon 
initiation, System Search will 
sequentially attempted access on all 
trunked systems.
 If one is found it will stop 
searching.
 This can be manually or 
automatically.

 None   : Disable System Search.
 Auto   : During intercept tone 
         releasing the PTT will 
         initiate auto System Search.
 Manual : During the intercept tone 
         keep the PTT key held down 
         and press the "System Scan" 
         switch.
          Upon release of the "System 
         Scan" switch, System Search 
         begins.
 Default: None.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
alternate selection.

 Display Character Help
 Determines the LCD will display.
 Choices are the "Sys#/Grp#" or "Grp 
Name".
 If any programmable switch (S, A, B, 
C, or Monitor) is assigned as a 
"ALP/sys.grp", this selection will be 
just a default.

 Sys#/Grp# : Displays the Sys# (small 
            two digit characters at 
            the left side of the LCD) 
            and Grp# (large 
            characters).
 Grp Name  : Displays the 
            pre-programmed 
            alphanumeric in the group 
            name column of the system 
            information screen.
 Default   : Sys#/Grp#.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
alternate selection.

 System Number Display Help
 Enables a small Sys# to appear to the 
left of the four large LCD characters.
 This is only available when the 
Display Character is set to "Grp 
Name".
 Additionally, any programmable switch 
(S, A, B, C, or Monitor) can be 
assigned as "ALP/sys.grp".

 Yes    : Display the Sys#.
 No     : Does not display the Sys#. 
 Default: Yes.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
alternate selection.

 Selective Call LED Help
 Call indicator will flash after 
receiving the correct selective call.

 Yes    : Enable the Selective Call 
         LED function.
 No     : Disable the Selective Call 
         LED function.
 Default: No.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
alternate selection.

 Primary Code Help
(DTMF Decode)
 The Primary Code consists of one to 
seven digits and is programmable.
 Reception of this code activates the 
alert or transpond function.
 The decoder may be reset locally by 
pressing the "Monitor" switch or 
remotely by sending the primary code 
followed by the "#" key.

 Type the required code directly.

 Secondary Code Help
(DTMF Decode)
 The Secondary Code consists of one to 
seven digits and is programmable.
 Reception of this code activates the 
alert or transpond function.
 The decoder may be reset locally by 
pressing the "Monitor" switch or 
remotely by sending the secondary code 
followed by the "#" key.

 Type the required code directly.

 Dead Beat Disable Code Help
(DTMF Decode)
 The Dead Beat Disable Code consists 
of one to seven digits and is 
programmable.
 Reception of this code activates the 
transpond function and then places the 
radio in the Dead Beat Disable mode.
 While in the D.B.D. mode, either 
transmit, or both transmit and receive
will be inhibited until a D.B.D. reset
is sent.
 Reception of the D.B.D. code followed 
by the "#" key will reset this 
function.
 D.B.D. Code is available only if a 
Primary or a Secondary Code has also 
been programmed.

 Type the required code directly.

 Primary Decode Response Help
(DTMF Decode)
 Select the radio action when DTMF 
Primary Code is correctly decoded.

 Alert    : The call indicator 
           flashes, until reset.
 Transpond: The radio returns a 
           transpond tone to the 
           caller.
 Default  : Alert.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
alternate selection.

 Secondary Decode Response Help
(DTMF Decode)
 Select the radio action when DTMF 
Secondary Code is correctly decoded.

 Alert    : The call indicator 
           flashes, until reset.
 Transpond: The radio returns a 
           transpond tone to the

 Dead Beat Disable Response Help
(DTMF Decode)
 Reception of this code activates the 
transpond function (as a "disable 
acknowledge") then places the radio in
a disabled state (TX or TX/RX 
inhibited).
 Reception of the reset code, D.B.D. 
code followed by #, will reset this 
function.

 TX/RX Inhibit: Disable TX/RX during 
               D.B.D. mode. 
 TX Inhibit   : Disable TX during 
               D.B.D. mode.
 Default      : TX Inhibit.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
alternate selection.

 Auto Reset Help
(DTMF Decode)
 After decoding the selective call, 
the radio will remain in unmuted 
status depends on decoding of 
preprogrammed ID, QT/DQT signalling 
or carrier.
 After the reset time expires the 
sel. call option will reset 
automatically. (Except D.B.D.)

 Enable : Enable the Auto Reset 
         function. 
 Disable: Disable the Auto Reset 
         function.
 Default: Disable.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
alternate selection.

 Auto Reset Timer Help
(DTMF Decode)
 This sets the length of the Auto
Reset Timer.
 Auto Reset function must be 
enabled.

 Range  : 0 to 254 s (1 s steps)
 Default: 30 s

 Otherwise enter required duration

 12Key/16Key Help
(DTMF Encode)
 Available on KDM-7 option installed 
only.
 Selection of the 4th column key board 
function. (A, B, C, D keys)

 12Key  : 4th column set for Autodial 
         memory function keys.
         (see S/M for details)
 16Key  : 4th column set for DTMF A, 
         B, C and D tones.
 Default: 12Key.

 DTMF Encode Sidetone Help

function.

 Enable : Enable the Manual Dial 
         function.
 Disable: Disable the Manual Dial

 Autodial Help

 Autodial is the memory of DTMF 
codes.
 Enable or disable the Autodial 
function.

 Enable : Enable the Autodial 
         function.
 Disable: Disable the Autodial 
         function.
 Default: Enable.

 Programmable nine memory area.

 Memory Write Help
(DTMF Encode)
 Available on KDM-7 option installed 
only.
 Enable or disable operator 
re-programming Autodial Code memory 
area.
 Available only with the 12 Key model, 
and Autodial is enabled.
 The 16 Key model cannot be accepted 
this selection.

 Enable : Enable the Memory Write 
         function.
 Disable: Disable the Memory Write 
         function.
 Default: Enable.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to

 Digit Time Help
(DTMF Encode)
 Available on KDM-7 option installed 
only.
 The Digit Time is the DTMF digit 
duration time when using Autodial.
 This time is designed to reduce false 
decoder operation by providing a fixed 
time period between digits, similar to 
DTMF minimum duration and first digit 
time.
 Available only with the 12 Key model, 
and Autodial is enabled.

 Selectable 6, 8, 10 or 15 dps.
 Default: 6 dps.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
increase selection.

 First Digit Time Help
(DTMF Encode)
 Available on KDM-7 option installed 
only.
 The first digit time is the tone 
length of the first digit when using 
Autodial.
 Like the DTMF minimum duration and 
the DTMF rise time, first digit time 
is intended to reduce the possibility 
of improper decoder operation.
 This feature extends the send time of 
the first digit compared with 
subsequent digits.
 However, if a transmission starts 
with the "*" or "#" tone, the radio 
compares the preset first digit time 
with the "*" and "#" tone duration, 
and adapts the longer time of the two
to the first "*" or the first "#" 
tone.
 Available only with the 12 Key model, 
and Autodial is enabled.

 Selectable 0, 100, 500 or 1000 ms.
 Default: 0 ms.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
increase selection.

 * and # Digit Time Help
(DTMF Encode)
 Available on KDM-7 option installed 
only.
 This extends the * and # tones send 
time.
 This function is required by some 
systems in which these tones must be 
set longer than numeric tones.
 This setting defines how much longer 
the "*" and "#" tones will be.
 However, if a transmission starts 
with the "*" or "#" tone, the radio 
compares the tone duration with the 
preset first digit, and adapts the 
longer time of the two to the first 
"*" or the first "#" tone.
 Available only with the 12 Key model, 
and Autodial is enabled.

 Selectable 0, 100, 500 or 1000 ms.
 Default: 0 ms.

 Autodial Memory Help
(DTMF Encode)
 Available on KDM-7 option installed 
only.
 There are 9 Autodial memories 
available (16 digits max. each).
 Available only with the 12 Key model, 
and Autodial is enabled.

 Type the required code directly.

 Test Mode Help
 Enable or disable the Test Mode 
function. (see S/M for details)

 Enable : Enable the Test Mode 
         function. 
 Disable: Disable the Test Mode 
         function.
 Default: Disable.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
alternate selection.

 Main Programming Mode Help
 Enable or disable the Main 
Programming function.
 This function is for radio firmware 
installation.
 Select disable before delivering the 
radio to the end user to avoid 
unintentional changes of the radio's 
operating system. 
 (see S/M for details)

 Enable : Enable the Main Programming 
         Mode function.
 Disable: Disable the Main Programming 
         Mode function. (recommended 
         mode)
 Default: Disable.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to

 Clone Mode Help
 Enable or disable the Clone function. 
 (see S/M for details)

 Enable : Enable the Clone Mode 
         function.
 Disable: Disable the Clone Mode 
         function.
 Default: Disable.

 Press the [F2] or [SPACE BAR] to 
alternate selection.

 System Merge Help
 This menu allows you to create the 
Source File and to merge a system.
 The menu contains two different

when you are making a Data File.
 It is easy to copy system data from 
the Source File to the Data File.

a) Creating a Source File from a 
  programming Data File.
   The source file has a maximum of 20 
  systems.
   Copy each system into the Source 
  File.
   Each system has a "System Name" 
  which is used during system copy 
  (Merge).
   Enter the System Name into each 
  system.

1. Change the arrow destination to the 
  right by using the [TAB].
2. Select a target system to which you 
  want to copy by using the up/down 
  arrow keys.
3. Type the System Number that you 
  want to copy from the Data File.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 if required.
5. Press the [F7] to open the 
  confirmation window.
6. Select "Ok" to proceed to copy, or 
  select "Cancel" to cancel the copy.

b) Making a programming Data File copy 
  a system from the Source File to a 
  target file.

1. Change the destination of the arrow 
  to the left by using the [TAB].
2. Select a target system to which you 
  want to copy.
3. Type the System Number that you 
  want to copy from the Source File.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 if required.
5. Press the [F7] to open the 
  confirmation window.
6. Select "Ok" to proceed to copy, or 
  select "Cancel" to cancel copying.

NOTE: This procedure is used only to 
     copy a system to the target file.
      Optional Feature data will not 
     be copied.
      Select them before you write 
     programming data to the radio.

 System Information Help
 Select Trunking or Conventional 
format for each system.

1. Select one of 16 systems by the 
  cursor.
2. Move the cursor to the desired 
  system and each time press the [F2] 
  or [SPACE BAR] to select Trunking, 
  Conventional or Not Used.
3. Whether you select Trunking or 
  Conventional, it is recommended that 
  the System Name is entered for each 
  system.
   The System Name will help you when 
  you copy a system between the Data 
  File and Source File during a System 
  Merge.
