FOREIGN AMATEURS VISITING THAILAND

Foreign visitors to Thailand can obtain an amateur radio transmitting licence as follows:

1. If you are an American or Swiss citizen, you can obtain a reciprocal licence with a callsign in the HS0Zxx series. Application in advance is necessary. Separate licences are required to cover a) to operate an amateur radio station b) to import and/or register radio transmitting equipment, c) to establish a home station.

2. Guest Permission. (This facility is not available at the moment due to the relocation of the station at AIT). If you become a member of the national radio society RAST, you can obtain a guest permit to operate the RAST club station HS0AC located at the Asian Institute of Technology, Rangsit. (North Bangkok) near the airport. You will need to produce documents to show that you have an appropriate class of licence to operate VHF or VHF+HF. For full details please contact the Station Manager Ray Gerrard <[email protected]> or Deputy Station Manager Winit HS1CKC <[email protected]>.

Note: The Licensing authorities in Thailand now require a reciprocal agreement to be finalised before granting a licence to a foreigner. In the past some temporary licences were issued Eg. HS0/G3NOM pending finalisation of reciprocal agreements, but this practice is now discontinued.

The following countries are known to be in negotiation for reciprocal licensing in Thailand:

Austria, Germany, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom
