Viatka is situated 896 kilometers east of Moscow. It lies on the hier bank of Viatka river taking 25 kilometers long. The average air temperature in january is 15 degrees Celsius below zero, in june +18 C. It is populated by 493 000 inhabitans (year of 1992).

First time it was named in the ancient books in 1374. In 1489 it was joined to state of Moscow. The main center of town is Kremlin (i.e. fortress that you can see in picture above). Viatka is center of own oblast since 1796.
Viatka is officially called Kirov since 1934 due to name of famous Soviet leader - Sergei Kirov. But it is widely known as Viatka and both names are used still. (You can guess which name I prefer). Now Viatka is a quiet and beautiful russian town. It is so called "Permassic park" near Viatka, a world's famous place that is very rich by bones of dinosaurus. It has an unique spiritual tradition - 'Sacratal path' that continues for over 400 years. It has an unique folk's Dymka... It is homeland of romantic writer Alexander Grin.
