FIELD DAY 2004 REVIEW

"The Wrap-Up"

Well, Field Day 2004 has come and gone, and all this webmaster can say is WOW!  QSY's first ever "Dave Reneau AA9KT Memorial Field Day" lived up to previous years events and saw some new records established...

QSY Members enjoying the biscuits & sausage gravy breakfast on Saturday morning - a tradition started by Dave AA9KT (SK)

For those who didn't make it, this year we again set up camp at "Greystone-on-the-Hudson", situated on 100 acres overlooking the Hudson River in the Town of Wappinger.  We operated three stations - two phone and one CW, and anyone who wanted to take a turn at the controls usually didn't have to wait very long.  Speaking of records, the unofficial number of QSO's in the log exceeded 1000!  Great band conditions (especially at this point in the sunspot cycle) and a bunch of steely-eyed operators were what it took to set our new benchmark.

Following are some quotes from a few of our Field Day 2004 participants.  I'm sure they will bring fond memories to mind and a smile to your face...

"Another terrific QSY field day weekend with great friends enjoying the fun aspects of ham radio. I can't wait for next year!" - Dennis NC2F

"The most enjoyable Field Day in years.  Just like PARC had on Blueberry hill many years ago.  Many thanks to the organizers." - Finn WB2UWU

"The best part of field day at QSY this year was the participation of the kids, the enjoyment they received from making their first contacts, and the genuine encouragement they received from the adults." - Matt K2YS

"I successfully lightened Sunday's breakfast - we cooked only 4 lbs of bacon (down from 6 last year) to go with the eggs, bagels, rolls, donuts, coffee and yes, some fresh fruit and orange juice!" - Shirley N2SKP

In addition to the previous quotes, the following are snippets of actual conversations overheard around the QSY Field Day 2004 site by Mike KC2HUV, who admits that some "poetic license" may have taken place...

John to Matt: "What's the deal with that shirt?  You're not a Commie are you?"

Roy to Mike (Noon Saturday): "I am NOT getting on that tower with you Mike....too much weight"
Roy to Mike (roughly 12 hours later): "I'll race you to the top of the tower!"

Mike to Ken: "What the hell was Felix Unger's wife's name?  This is killing me"

Shirley to everyone: "Come on, everyone have a shot of JB"
Mike to Shirley: "Ummm, I believe you've already had yours"

Overheard 2:00 PM Saturday: "Does anyone have a sledge-hammer?"
Same person 12 hours later: "Does anyone have a bottle opener?"

Same person 18 hours later: "Does anyone have an aspirin?"

Ken to Roy and Mike: "Is that a corpse in John's truck?"
Mike to Ken and Roy: "I don't know......let's poke it and see"

Ken to Mike: "You know Matt Groening modeled Homer Simpson after Roy"

Ken to Mike and Roy (about 3:00 PM Sat.): "I just checked the Generator, everything looks good"
Ken to Mike and Roy (about 12 hours later): "I just checked the Generator, tripped on the ground rod and tore open my shin.  DAMN it hurts!"

Roy to anyone listening: "Music is cool, I like music.....hehehe Pearl Jam Rocks"

Mike to Roy: "Does this climbing harness make my ass look fat?"
Roy to Mike: "No, your ass always looks fat"
John to Roy: "Mike's ass looks great to me"

Roy to Mike: "Well Shipmate, stepped on our dorks again, eh?"
Mike to Roy: "Aye Captain, stepped on them real good"
