Because the high interest raised by the DSB projects, we decided to publish a circuit we have mounted and worked very well, in spite of it has no box yet and haven’t been practically tested, as everything we publish here was duly tested in the home-brewing shop and in QSOs.

We are publishing in order to show that DSB is more useful than AM and trying to incentive the folks to mount phone rigs. This project is very simple and with 2 stages (audio amplifier and front end filter) turns into a transceiver.

The circuit hearth uses the well known TA7358 mixer as a balanced modulator (Gilbert Cell), the audio comes from an electret microphone (coming from a dead telephone set), goes through a preamplifier using a general usage NPN transistor.

From there it follows towards the balanced modulator where it modulates the signal that comes from the VXO (in the TA7358, too), in the output it goes through a buffer with a 2N3904, then a driver using 2x2N3904 transistors in parallel.

And finally it drives a BD139-16 in the power amplifier

Be aware that DSB and SSB can be amplified in amplifiers which are not put in class C – the transistors base has DC polarization.

In the shop table the power went over 5W on a 50 Ohms resistive load without the Pi low pass filter.
