Lt. Col. Merle Cooper Hollingsworth, age 91, of Elgin, formerly of San Antonio, passed away December 4, 1998. After graduating from Texas A&M with a Civil Engineering Degree, he went into the Air Force as an officer. In almost 40 years of service he was a veteran of two wars and helped design several Air Force bases around the world. He was a very active deacon in his church, taught Sunday School and served on many committees throughout his life. He was preceded in death by the mother of his four children, Elizabeth Hollingsworth; and one sister, Katherine Hollingsworth. He was also preceded by a second wife and good friend, Hazel Moses Hollingsworth. He is survived by sons, Malcolm Hollingsworth and Richard Hollingsworth and wife Becky; daughters, Joy and husband Douglas Ross, Beverly and husband Lynn Allen. He is survived by 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Eric and wife Christine Hollingsworth and son Joshua, Lori and husband Kyle Crowley, Charla and Kate Hollingsworth, Laura and husband John Turrcotte; sons, Jonah, Gabriel, Stephen and wife Amy Ross; sons, Zachary, Patrick and Jason Ross, Justin and Holly Allen. Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, December 8th at 12:45 P.M. at Fort Sam Army Base, with the Reverend Richard Hollingsworth officiating.
