Starting in May there will be a beacon on 50.1 MHz from France. The call
is FX3VHF. It will be running c.w. f.s.k. (170-Hz shift) with about 100
watts into a 5-element beam aimed at Central America. Plans call for it
to be active for 24 hrs/day thru August. Reports of reception should go
to W1HDQ (and also to this column). This experiment to observe Es across
the North Atlantic has been carefully planned and its results may be a
step in reclaiming some portion of 50-MHz in Europe/Africa for amateur
 use.
