...drastic solar events can change things. They sure did (for a while)!
The highest US F2 MUF noted since January 1971 appeared October 23. Solar
activity at a level much like early August really drove the MUF's up and
provided a multitude of solar radio noise bursts in 30-50 MHz. See later.

A west coast publisher may soon be coming out with an under $5 book listing the principal VHF Public Safety users in the US. More details when available. In response to some questions on it, I only list call letters for pagers and mobile phones when they are used in on-the-air ID's. Using KMD 344 here when 'Long Beach' is the only ID ever given seems non-productive. If the 27-day repeat of late October's F2 activity returns this, unfortunate as it is, will be too late to warn you in time. As the October 23 east-west MUF could have reached the 43-MHz pagers, reports from either coast are earnestly desired. Also, with some more-reliable meteor showers coming, the opportunity for logging the pagers at very close range exists. Monitoring the 162.4-.55 weather cast could also be rewarding with a good burst. 73, Pat Signature, 1,689 bytes WA5IYX
