UI/APRS-Packet : Via International Space Station ISS ALPHA NOCALL

..... Onderstaand bericht mocht ik ontvangen van Rudy, ON4CKT, een Belgisch Radio Zendamateur. Hij bevestigde de verbinding die we hadden via het ISS, dat is dus het International Space Station. Het bijzondere aan deze verbinding is dat er sprake was van een speciaal soort Packet Radio : de UI mode. De UI mode wordt ook wel gebruikt bij GPS toepassingen.

Het tweede wel zeer opmerkelijke feit is dat het ISS onder andere in die gedenkwaardige nacht een uitermate speciale CallSign ( NOCALL ) voerde.

Het betreft de enigste niet geregistreerde callsign die ik ooit gewerkt heb :-) voor zover ik dat kan nagaan.

NOCALL is een default waarde in de meeste Packet Radio programma's en TNC's. De betreffende Astronauten in het ISS waren nog niet toegekomen aan het instellen met betrekking tot de CallSigns. Dat er nu door Radio Zendamateurs gewerkt werd 'over' ( via ) NOCALL is ook opvallend te noemen. De ISS TNC en de zender/ontvanger ( tranceiver ) waren al QRV ( aan gezet ).

En het derde : van mijn zijde uit gezien was dit een zeer moeilijke verbinding, een sperrtopf antenne IN het huis met een portofoontje op de frequenties van het ISS. De sperrtopf had ik toevallig erg kort ervoor gerepareerd nadat de antenne zwaar beschadigd ( vooral in hoogfrequente zin ) was geworden ( tijdens een inbraak ). Deze speciale antenne had ik gemaakt van een zeer robuuste ouderwetse stalen fietspomp en kon wel wat hebben en gerepareerd.

Ik was dus wel heel erg blij met de ISS NOCALL communicatie en de bevestiging van Rudy uit Belgie, het zal wel nooit meer voorkomen dat bovenstaande factoren zich tegelijkertijd voordoen ! Normaal gesproken is voor een Radio Zendamateur een digitale verbinding via het International Space Station werkelijk niets bijzonders ! Maar soms zijn er bijzondere factoren .....

Hieronder zie je een deel van de communicatie zoals die plaatsvond. Daaronder zie je een stukje ax25 Packet Radio Algemeen Bericht van 9A2DI waarin hij meldt dat hij een aantal stations ( en ook PA3GJE, mijzelf ) via het ISS heeft ontvangen.

Rudy, ON4CKT, a Belgian Radio Amateur sent the concerning message ( see below ). He confirmed the connection which we had via the ISS, the International Space station. Particular to this connection is the very special type of PacketRadio : the UI mode. The UI mode is also used at GPS applications.

The second very remarkable fact is that the ISS generated an unusual CallSign ( NOCALL ) in that memorable night.

It concerns the only not registered callsign which I have ever worked : -) as far as I can check.

NOCALL is a default value in the most PacketRadio programmes and TNC's. The astronauts in the ISS had not yet renamed the CallSigns. That now radio zendamateurs were worked ( via ) NOCALL is remarkable too.

But the TNC and transmitter/receiver ( tranceiver ) had been already put on. So it was possible to work over the ISS via NOCALL.

The third : seen from my side this was a very difficult connection. A sperrtopf antenna IN the house with a small HT 'on the ISS frequencies'.
I had repaired ( a few days before ) the sperrtopf, after this antenna had become damaged heavily during a burgling.This antenna I had made of a very robust old-fashioned bicycle pump ( steel ) could I repaire.

I was very glad because of the ISS NOCALL communication and the confirming from Rudy ( Belgium ). Perhaps never again the mentioned factors will occur at the same time ! A digital connection by means of the international Space station is not real particular for a radioamateur ! But sometimes there are particular factors.....

Below you can see a part of the ax25PacketRadio communication such as that took place. Then you see a piece of a general message ( bulletin ), reported from 9A2DI in which he reports that he has received a number of stations ( and also PA3GJE, me) via the ISS.
