My hobby: radio revenue stamp collecting
Unusual items
British stamps:
These are a few unusual revenues. The stamps are not the actual licence stamps, but savings stamps that were sold at the post office and could be used to pay for a TV licence, a motor vehicle licence, or the telephone bill (please send me e-mail me if this information is incorrect). The stamps were probably issued in the late 1980's. Given the TV licence fee at the time, a lot of 25 p. stamps were needed for a single licence!
I was told by Mr. J. Barefoot that these stamps have the so-called 'training stripes', and were not issued at a regular post office, but used at the Post Office Training School.
More unusual items:
Indonesia (Riau)
This is an Indonesian radio revenue with a Riau overprint that is also seen on regular Indonesian stamps. It was canceled in the post office of Pulusambu, one of the smaller post offices in the Riau Archipel.
Indonesian radio licences are an interesting field for collectors, since the radio licence fee was a local tax in Indonesia. There are many different local issues. The ones mostly seen are from Jakarta and Surabaya. During the 1970, designs changed from year to year. In the future I hope to show more Indonesian revenues.
Israel: licence with penalty stamps
The previous owner of this booklet paid his radio tax from 1954 (3 IP stamp) until 1955 (5 IP stamp), but on one bad day in 1958 he had to pay his licence fee for 1956 (5 IP + 20% = 6 IP red stamp), 1957 (5 IP + 20% = 6 IP red stamp + 3 IP war tax, blue stamp), and 1958 (7 IP + 20% = 8.4 IP red stamp w. black overprint + 3 IP war tax, blue stamp).
