The RMS meter program.
RMS meter with soundcard and software written in Python
For the measurement of signal/noise ratios, you do need a RMS meter. And for a stable reading, it is important to average during a few seconds. This RMS meter does it. Connect the audio input of your soundcard via a 10k-100k serial resistor to the output of your receiver. The measurement time can be set and you can listen to the audio. The value is relative. But for the measurement of the sensitivity, you first have to measure the noise of the receiver. Then you connect a RF signal generator and adjust the level so that you do have an increase of 3 dB. The output voltage of the RF generator is the sensitivity of the receiver.
SOFTWARE
Before you are using this program, you have to install Python. That is very simple. But read first something about Python by clicking the following link:
WHAT IS PYTHON AND HOW DO YOU INSTALL PYTHON
As the source code of Python is written in ASCII, it is very simple to modify the program to you own requirements. Think for example about the size of the screen, the colors etc.
