Hi Joe and all:

Just finished the job late Sat. evening and drove to the shack arriving
15 min. before the skd time from 1 am.

Nearby trees grew up so quickly this summer which disturbed the <20
degrees elevation.  WX was almost ok after the thunder storm, often
(more than ten times) come here in the summer.   Typhoons did not
destroy my antennas yet but the wisteria terrace was blown down.

JULY 10 2004  activity weekend result

NI2Q     449/449           W2UHI   559/549  #31
K0YW    549/559  #32   W2DRZ  549/549
VE6TA   449/O  but lost the signal suddenly
NY2Z    559/559  #33 op from W2DRZ
VE6TA  449/449  #34   came up again with success

I got awake after the moon set, and really lost the EU window,
but had enjoyed a good sleep more than ten hours!
So I decided to cut down the grasses around the shack, dish and the
garden trees with engine grass cutter.  A hard work...

I changed the output coupling of my DL9EBL 327 cavity from a disk to
a small loop.  Seemingly the loop woks well, perhaps because the original
C probe is located (nearly) at the low impedance poit.
Still the size may be too small.  It makes heat as much as the C probe.
Power gain is ok, about 7-8 times of the driving power, but the plate
efficiency
is still low; less than 35% or so.

Is there anyone who tried the loop coupling for this amplifier?

DL Time (32000 bps): < 1 minute

Greetings,

We have received considerable input from the EME community concerning the
addition of one weekend for the ARRL International EME Competition to focus
on the bands 2.3 GHz and up, in addition to changing the multipliers to U.S.
States/Canadian Provinces/DXCC Entities.

For the 2004 contest, rules changes will implement the above.

A .pdf copy of the rules, that will appear in the September 2004 QST contest
announcement, are attached.

Basically, for the bands 50 MHz through 1296 MHz there is NO change to the
contest rules except for the multipliers now being U.S. states/Canadian
Provinces/DXCC entity. You will still have the same two full weekends
available for contest activity the same as always.

For the bands 2.3 GHz and above, contest activity will occur on a separate,
single weekend separate from the other two.

This will allow stations with multiband capabilities, specifically 432 MHz
through 24 GHz, more time to operate on more bands. An informal trial of
this arrangement was conducted in 1998 as noted in QST. Al Ward posed this
change here on Moon-Net and the HF EME nets a few months ago and very
positive feedback was received.

If there are any questions, you may direct them to myself or Al Ward, W5LUA.
We will be happy to address them.

ARRL First Vice President

Rules, 2004 ARRL International EME Competition
1. Object. Two-way communications via the earth- moon-earth path on any authorized
amateur frequency above 50 MHz.
2. Date and Contest Period. Three full weekend 48-hour periods (0000 UTC on
Saturday through 2359 UTC Sunday). The 2004 dates will be as follows:
· October 9-10 50 MHz through 1296 MHz
· October 30-31 2304 MHz and Up
· December 4-5 50 MHz through 1296 MHz
3. Entry Categories.
3.1 Single Operator. One person performs all operating and logging functions,
equipment adjustments and antenna alignment.
3.1.1 Multiband: Multiband entries in categories 50 MHz through 1296 MHz,
2304 MHz and Up, and Overall will be recognized in awards offered.
3.1.2 Single Band: Single-band entries on each band will be recognized in
awards offered.
3.2 Multi-Operator. Two or more persons participate; includes neighboring
amateurs within one state, but with EME facilities for different bands on different
team members’ premises, as long as no two are more than 50 km (30 miles) apart.
Multi-Operator neighborhood groups may use the same call signs at each location
if permissible under national licensing rules and regulations. If not permissible,
separate callsigns may be used for the multi-operator neighborhood entry. When
operating under this neighborhood provision, all logs must be submitted together
in a single envelope or email with a single summary sheet showing the combined
operation, designating the principal callsign for the entry. All multi-operator
callsigns will be shown in the results.
3.3 Commercial Equipment: Stations using equipment that is not amateur (such as
a dish antenna for lab equipment owned by an institution or government agency)
will have their scores listed separately.
3.4 Only one log may be submitted per callsign
4. Exchange: For a valid contact to occur each station must send and received both call
signs and a signal report in any mutually understood format, plus a complete
acknowledgment of the calls and report. Partial or incomplete QSOs should be
indicated on your log, but not counted for contest credit. Stations may be worked
once per band for credit.
5. Scoring:
5.1 QSO Points: Count 100 points for each complete EME contact
5.2 Multiplier: Each US State and Canadian Province, plus each DXCC entity
