Hi Joe,
I heard you say you would not be on this week but I thought I might send you a line while I
was thinking about it.
I had a little problem with my EME array rotor that I thought I might share with you and the
group on the next EME net notes. In 1998 I bought a M2 Orion RC-2800 rotor to use for my EME
array'sazimuth positioner. http://www.m2inc.com/products/rotors/or28002.html
Except for some slight damage to the control box due to a lightning hita couple of years ago
it has been working great. Last week I was aiming manually and noticed that the readout on the
display was running but the rotor was not. I first thought I had got RF into some place where
it did not belong. I turned the power off and back on and the display stopped.
I could see that the rotor and display was not aligned anymore so I went to mode 3 to reset it.
As soon as I went back into the manual mode and pushed the clockwise button the rotor turned but
when I released the button the display continued to count. This was very puzzling to me. I checked
all the cables inside, and they appeared to be fine. I then climbed the tower and pulled the
inline connector next to the rotor apart to check for corrosion, none found. I notice that when
I turned the connector upside down, my hands were a little wet. I took the two phillips screws
to the cable strain release out and found the top part of the connector to be filled with water.
I dried the connector with an hair dryer, and put some heat shrink covering over the top with
some electrical tape and reassembled the connector. The rotor after being re-calibrated
works great again. The water must have been the problem. Maybe this might save some else in this
group a little troubleshooting time. It looks like it could be a common problem with the older
model of this rotor. I think the water in the top of the connector must have been sending the
control/display box a false signal on the reed switch line makingthe control/display box think
the rotor was moving. Anyway the rotor is now working and I am happy that it did not have to go
back to the factory for repair!
I now have my rotor auto tracking again due to some good advice I received from some Gentlemen
EME'ers on 75 meters a month or two ago. Also got JT65 mode working on a quiter computer. I am
still looking for QSO on 70 cm, CW or JT65.
Thanks All,
73, Cowles_K4EME QRV on 70 cm

Hi Joe,
Either conditions have been awful on 432 or I have problems. My echoes are so
weak I can barely detect them. I did however, work DL8YHR (O/O) yesterday, for
initial #137. I can tell there is strong Faraday, when I echo test and move
polarity simultaneously my signals improve significantly (CCW rotation).
Anyway, the snow is almost gone here so I can start on my new feed mounting
system, and I plan to refurbish everything, so whatever is wrong, if anything,
should be repaired this spring.
Status of the toasted FT-736R: I received a new processor chip from
Burghardt's. I desoldered the main chips on the processor board and put in
sockets. By the way, I used a "Hakko 808" desoldering tool which is FANTASTIC!
I verified that my main processor was in fact, burned out. But unfortunately,
something is still wrong. So back to the bench.
Very high winds here, so I would not be QRV anyway.
