To All EME Stations:

It is that time of year again when we need to recommend to the ARRL our
preferences for the ARRL International EME Contest.

Please send me your preferences for the contest. I will publish the results
on MOON-NET and forward the recommendations to Joel, W5ZN at the ARRL.

Please send your recommendations to me by no later than March 31, 2004.

The following chart by W5LUU lists the Fall/Winter weekends and conditions

Subj:    [Moon-net] 3B9C  DX-Pedition 6m / 70cm EME
Date:   3/8/04 12:05:39 PM Eastern Standard Time
From:   [email protected]
Sender: [email protected]
To:     [email protected]

Hello group.

Our container has safely arrived on Rodrigues island and the first group of
operators leaves for 3B9 on Monday 15th March. Allowing a few days for travel,
transporting the equipment from the port to hotel and setting up 10 stations,
we anticipate the whole HF operation will be on air 24 hrs a day from Friday
19th March until 12th April

6m

Mike G3SED will be in the first group and has experience of JT44 EME on 6m.
The pictures sent back from 3B9 show that the site has an excellent take off
to the North and East. This will give good views over the sea on moonrise. We
will not be able to confirm what the possibilities are for EME to our west on
moonset until someone arrives with a compass and does an accurate survey!
We have a 1kW Quadra and a 5 over 5 beam for 6m
Skeds for EME on 6m can be made in advance and messages sent to the operators
on the island by e-mail to

[email protected]

This system is being used as an alternative to the usual 'pilot' scheme.  All
messages will be passed onto the appropriate operator or raised at our daily
mid-day team meeting. Please include " 6m EME" in the message title.

We will have a 'paid for when used' internet connection on 3B9 but it is
'slow' and will not be connected '24/7'

70cm

The plans for 70cm have changed considerably since the equipment left the UK
in December. Originally the 70cm station was 4 x 19 ele Yagis with a 100W
masthead amplifier intended for AO-40 uplinking. We added a 0.5dB pre-amp and
hoped that would allow EME with the larger stations.  Since the failure of the
batteries on Oscar 40 we have upgraded the station with a  GS31B  700 Watt
amplifier kindly provided by Linear Amp UK. Although this has to be carried on the
plane this will arrive on the 15th March. I will fly out on the 29th.

At present the 70cms will be available from 30th April. This will give 4 or 5
days of good conditions and we'll be equipped for CW / JT44 / JT65.   If the
operators wish to set up the 70cms before I arrive, I will advise you via this
reflector, or you could ask for a status report via the address above. The
70cm has full Az /  Elevation and will initially operate from moonrise to
moonset for the 4 /5 day period.

When I arrive I'll determine a 70cm frequency that is 'birdie free' and use
that that for the duration of the expedition. I should be able to place
messages on the reflector after arriving. If no skeds have been made for a particular
period I'll call CQ using JT65B 1st period on the announced frequency. I'll
arrange 70cm skeds in the week before I depart.

I would like to thank members of the reflector for giving me a lot of advice
over the past few months and to Dan and the members of HB9Q for providing an
outstanding signal which has allowed me to familiarise myself with JT44 and CW
off the moon with simple equipment.

70cms:

4 x 19 element F9FT Yagis.
700 W  GS31B
ATF54143  pre-amp
Azimuth / Elevation but not computer controlled.

Hope to work you from 3B9C.

Regards
David  G0MRF  for 3B9C
