Activity has recently been a little intermittant. I was QRV for the SSB contest but
true to form the PA was giving trouble. A water leak prevented me joining in on the
Saturday . Many good signals heard. Sunday I managed to work K5JL and OE9ERC with
reduced power outout. ZS6AXT got away.
I arranged a sked with Ivo for the following weekend 2nd March but heard nothing.
During the week whilst I was away a storm had bent the support for the actuator arm,
and I was about 8 degrees off. Just enough to stop me finding Ivo.
The weekend of the 23/24 was again dissapointing. On Saturday there was little activity
heard here, but did work Howard G4CCH on random. On Sunday the PA sprang another leak
and gave up again. Heard this weekend HB9BBD 549 at times and 52 on SSB, Ik2MMB 529,
K5JL and a few weaker stations that I did not have time to stop and identify.. to busy
trying to dry out the valve. I am getting a screw on heat exchanger put together..
deionised water seems to eat through solder. I may even just use good Scottish tap water,
the leakage current is not to bad HI.
I have made some improvements to the dish positioners, and the materials will take a
lot more to bend them! Work is progressing slowly on the TH328 amplifier that will give
the 2C39BA one I am using a well deserved rest!
I am also working on a VE4MA feed with polarising screws. I measured a large increase in
sun noise 8.6 dB to over 11 dB when I bypassed the hybrid. It has to go!
Preamp is improved, nf 0.35dB thanks to Charlie G3WDG.
I can be QRV from now through the Easter period, any skeds welcomed, PA permitting!
73s to all, See you off the moon!

Hi Joe, Had some fun last night. Mostly trying to sweep Murphy out of the
shack. After fighting another dead elevation board this time in K6DV's
box...(edge connector problems) fixed with shims. Also low drive to rig...Bad
attenuator on input of S/S module. Down to 200-250 watts out...got it up
a bit higher later. Also the PTT line to the foot switch quit...more shimming
on the 1/4" plugs ground fixed that. Results were good. Worked W4OP, cw/ssb
569/549 and 55/55. W2UHI, 559/569, WA1JOF, 519/539, K5JL, 559/589, W7BBM,
559/559 and 55/55 on SSB. The dish now tracks fine. I'll have the rig back
to full goo soon. Was hearing my own echoes 579 consistently even with
low power. Ran some real low power checks...2 watts out is Q5 on cw...J
sees 1W but has 1/2 My TX feedline loss. Good to be back on the Moon. 73
