**** I took the liberty to reprint a public message posted on MOON-NET
by WB9UWA. His comments about 432 & above are a bit troubling to me. It
is obvious that some of the folks that are on 2 meter EME do read about
432 & above activity, but for some reason are reluctant to participate.
Are we turning new-comers off by actually communicating via amateur
radio? The inference I see is that if one cannot communicate directly
with another EME participant, a sked can neither be made nor a contact
confirmed unless both parties are in e-mail contact or on "The Logger".
The comments about "smoke signals" and Part 15 are equally disturbing.
You don't suppose that the thought of completing a bonafide contact via
the moon without the aid of other communications may intimidate some??
Any sked requests for Jan 26/27 weekend ?????? send them now..
Latest skeds will always be on DL4EBY web page. You can find
links at the PA0ZN page through the 432 & Above EME NET NOTES.
This is a direct link to the latest skeds. Copy and save it to
your favorites.

Dear Joe, thanks for the all those usefull net-notes you have
mailed us, despite your heavy QRL load. Do agree with your opinion
about the actual EME mentalities. Always do remember with pleasure
how Jan, DL9KR, "converted" me from the classic UHF to 70cm EME !
It started in the late '80, always on 14345 KHz, till my first
random QSO, on 7 sept 90, with SM4IVE...my EME teacher got to be
my 7 th initial, hi...
Not to much to report from this end. Lately got QSL's from VK3UM,
UA3PTW, EA8FF and DL7APV, all are initials, realy do appreciate the
cards and nice pictures. My score is up to 125 confirmed from 155
initials. Despite several tries, no idea how to get 9M2BV confirmed.
Am still open for 70cm EME skeds, will do the best to get on.
We got a very early and cold winter, its not we did expect !.
Season greetings and a happy & prosperous New-Year 2002.

Subj: [Moon-Net] All: skeds and 432 EME
Date: 12/27/01 9:06:00 AM Eastern Standard Time
From: [email protected] (WB9UWA Jim Shaffer)
To: [email protected]
Hi All,
I have requested skeds via direct E-mail (E-mail addresses in sked87) for
stations that show skeds in skd87 currently that would be an initial for WB9UWA.
For reasons unknown, there has been no answer. They are as follows:
RX3QFM
SM2LKW
K5UGM
N4IP
UA3TCF
JR5JXV
I am still open for some skeds, especially 1/1/02 since I have that day off
and conditions should be good. This weekend, I would like to concentrate on
medium size 4 yagi stations, as the sky is a bit noisey.
Where are all the activity reports? I would like to try some EME random, but
what frequency and when? I have had poor luck in the past trying for a tail
end of someones sked.
I have been giving some thought to trying 432 EME, but the situation for 432
looks troubling. According to the 432 and above newsletter, very few of the
432 group are on Moon-net and much fewer are on the logger. 20 meters is said
to be the way to communicate to this group.
I seldom hear Europe on 20 meters during the net. This doesn't hold much
hope for me. Perhaps I should plan on trying smoke signals too? With the
strong possibility of part 15 devices operating at 432, do I really want to
make this investment?

K5UGM: no traffic.. been up all night working on stuff.. nothing new on 23cm.

50 inches of snow in last few days.. condx good and TS-2000 well.
K0YW: no activity on 23cm.. been busy with visitors.. been on 6 meters a bit..
RE: WB9UWA COMMENTS
[Bruce] compares 70cm & above to mountain climbing, the higher you go the
more difficult it is to accomplish your goals.. we all are willing to help
our fellow amateurs.
W7CNK: playing on 6 meters as well.. got a phase lock loop running on DEM
unit and working well..
W1ZX/M: worked VE4MA and a few others..
RE: WB9UWA COMMENTS
[Willie says] quit trying to change them.. it'll never happen..
WA1JOF: did hear VE4MA very weak.. not complete.. sent "T" and then quit. Did
Barry hear anything from Don..
VE6NA: a few flurries.. blew up 23cm amp.. not QRV .. been on 6 meters..
RE: WB9UWA COMMENTS
[Brain] looks at 70cm & above as a real challenge and finds the group very
helpful in all aspects.
KA0Y: not much snow.. was on last night and worked a few..W1ZX, W7BBM (SSB)
N2UO, K2UYH (SSB).. heard VE4MA send "M" to WA1JOF..
RE: WB9UWA COMMENTS
[Ken] started at 2 meters and if wasn't for all the help from other active
amateurs, would not be where he [KA0Y] is today. 2 meters, 222mhz, 70cm & 23cm
W4OP: did not listen on moon last night. making great progress on the amp and
now working on plumbing and cooling system. hopes that in a couple of
weeks, will have some power ...
K5JL: RE: WB9UWA COMMENTS
[Jay] Disturbed about comments concerning 432 & above, when one has not tried
it and no experience.. should not make negative comments..
W7MEM: looking for 6 meters to open ..
SM2CEW: RE: WB9UWA COMMENTS
[Peter] would like the net to know:
There are also folks on the lower bands that feel as we do. Just to let
us know that there are many on 2 meters and below that are of the same
thoughts as 432 & above.. you do not need all the fancy software, DSP,
and internet connections to be on EME .. Get on the moon, try it, and
you can get help from all.
VE1ALQ: good morning to all.. working on house.. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.
DL9KR: Saesons Greetings to all.. wish all 2 meter DX-pedtions would bring along
432 EME equipment too!!!!
RE: WB9UWA COMMENTS
