Dear friends
our contest result is:
144: 130 stations and 43 multipliers
432: 70 stations and 32 multipliers
1296: 72 stations and 32 multipliers
total: 271 stations and 107 multipliers
We did find conditions very changing during the second weekend. Our 432 RIG
was not working well. We are working on it. 1296 is okay but there is still
some improvement ahead. 144 is still going strong.
All stations worked are listed on our homepage: www.hb9q.ch -> Please have
a look!
Our next planned activity is December 8th and 9th. We will advice about
details. If you would like to work us send us please an e-mail
([email protected]).

Subj: Re: Marconi Event Moon-Bounce
Date: 11/17/01 5:14:52 PM Eastern Standard Time
From: [email protected] (BobD)

Dear AL,
thank you for your message and as the message in italian about these tests
the band used in Medicina are the 23cm and the working QRG is 1296.1 MHz.
I suppose that you have the entire message sent, but I give the English
translation of the main part as follows:
TECHNICAL DATA OF TRANSMISSION in Medicina (BO) locality Fiorentina:
Antenna: parabolic dish VLBI of 32 meters of diameter arranged for the
tracking of the moon for all the period of the experiment;
Position of the RadioTelescope: Lat. North 44°31'13,2" - Long. East 11°38'48.8"
- 28 meters A.S.L.
Power transmitted: over 100 W (CW)
Polarization of the signal transmitted and received: circular in accordance
with the radioamateur conventions. The use of a linear polarization by the
listeners will cause a penality of a reduction of the signal of 3 dB;
Mode of operation: upper side band (USB) and CW (if and when necessary);
Sequence: repeated transmission of pre-recorded cassette with intervals of
listening of the possible signals, bounced by the moon, sent from "external"
participants, potentially residents in any part of the world;
Call-sign: the official call-sign issued to Guglielmo Marconi Foundation is
IY4FGM and this call-sign will be used during the tests.
TECHNICAL DATA FOR LISTENING THE IY4FGM
Considering the power transmitted and the gain of the transmitting antenna
in Medicina we can affirm with certitude the reception of the IY4FGM, with a
signal of good quality, by the use of medium hams equipments that are employed
for this type of activity; Antenna: a parabolic dish, of at least, 2 meters
of diameter is OK but a 3 meters is suggested; it is not excluded the possibility
to use 4 YAGIS of 35 elements or more duly connected, but keep in mind that the
common YAGIS are working only with linear polarization:
Receiver: a pre-amplifier at low noise connected directly to the antenna is the
normal standard. A cipher of noise lower as 1 dB is suggested: a temperature of
noise of about 50K is very frequently realized on amateur installations.
The receiver will be able to receive signals USB and CW with a band-pass of 2.4
kHz and 500 Hz respectively, but also this condition is always too realized on
modest amateur installations. Keep in mind that due to the motion of the moon you
will note the presence of the Doppler effect that will require the frequent readjust
of the tuning (fine tuning).
P.S. The 12 Dec. the moonrise is about 05 A.M. (UTC) and the moonset at about 03 P.M.
(UTC). The best period for the experiment is in the morning and in the late for
North America.
Sorry for my English but I have done all my best !!
73's and best regards Manolo, I4CMF

The F6KSX EME group was active on 10 GHz during both legs of the last ARRL
EME contest.
The activity was good during the European/USA windows.
All the QSO was made on random activity (no sked!!!) with good reports.

CWNR : AA5C, DL2LAC and PA0EHG (good tx with rx problem)
Results : 17 Callsigns * 11 * 100 = 18700 points and 8 news init.
The operators were : F1EHN, F1SXC, F4UPG, F6DLA and F6ECX
The station : 3.3 m dish with vertical polar. and automatic tracking with
F1EHN EME System, 50 W TWT amp. / 40 W at horn, 0.7 dB NF, Transverter 10GHz
/ 28 MHz (with IRMixer), TS 440s & TS 2000.
We received about 16 dB of excess sun noise and 2 dB for the excess moon
noise.
We wish to thank all the active station. In fact, all the bands were enabled
during the same WE and damage the activity on the higher bands and promote
the skeds. Moreover, the rules don't reward the random activity.
Probably it is the right time to modify the rules (reward the random QSO and
separate the bands to improve the random activity). We agree with the remark
of F6ETI (" it's abnormal that sked QSO give same points that random QSO
(it's a contest!!!)").
F6KSX will not be active during the winter period because we have not
permanent electricity in our station. We have removed the Rx/Tx to protect,
modify and improve it for the next year.
Best 73.
For the F6KSX group

WX was calm and dry on all days. Equipment worked perfectly with the exception
that the TS870 built-in keyer quit producing dots on the last morning. Had to
"crocodile" my vintage hand pump (from a Super Constellation plane) to the
TS870. My apologies to my qso partners on Nov-11. Try sending with a straight
key after decades with Vibroplex or automatic. Scoring: As per ARRL VHF/UHF
contest rules, family members operating the same rig can be counted separately.
(Family rule, firstly used with W1JR father and AD1C son). However, I did not
count SP6OPN as he was using SP6JLW`s rig and to my knowledge is not related.
All this results in 106 QSO's with 36 multipliers for a final score of 381600
points, about 40 pct down compared with the "best" years.
----- 73 and good reflections!
Jan DL9KR.
PS: Partial and full resets with the TS870 never brought
back the dots. By pure chance I was successful when powering the xcvr WHILE
PRESSING the dot paddle.
