Hello Joe,
Got back on 1296 Saturday Morning Oct 06 UTC. Heard G4CCH calling
CQ and OE9XXI very strong SSB and CW. Tried to call both of them but
no return. Could be because I have both TX and RX set to RHCP and
have no way to set TX on LHCP and RX on RHCP separately. Thinking
for now to go linear since most stations are at circular anyway.
Can get steady 100 watts out with water cooling on Dual 2C39 amp.
Should be looking around the bands especially 1296 again this Sunday
Morning UTC. Excited about hearing my first 1296 SSB and CW sigs.
Still looking to make my first EME QSO on 1296. Mainly preparing for
contest.

Subj:    [Moon-Net] 24 GHz EME Tests October 9 & 10
Date:   10/9/01 6:14:19 AM Eastern Daylight Time
From:   [email protected] (Barry VE4MA)
To:     [email protected] (NLRS), [email protected] (moon-net)

Good Morning Everyone,

W5LUA and VE4MA did complete QSO #2 on 24 GHz EME in about 20 minutes this
morning.

Al's signal was very readible, easy to find, but as time progessed over 2
1/2 hours, signals became more like 10 GHz with a very pronounced Aurora
like BUZZ.

Murphy's Law made an appearance at both QTHs. For the 07:00 test period my
PLL TX LO was unlocked with a crystal that did not start. I readjusted for
best crystal activity which moved my TX converter about 550 KHz away!  After
recalibrating all was OK for the 09:00 test period.

Al had trouble with one erratic readout, which because of No visual moon
meant he could not track during 1 sequence.

So tomorrow we will repeat the test at 08:00 and later at 10:30, same
frequency & sequence:

W5LUA-VE4MA  24192.100 with 2.5 minute sequences

Al & I will be on for the full 30 minutes, even if we complete a contact
early

Barry VE4MA

FYI

It was sure fun. Had TX LO trouble in first sked (Lost lock) but then
completed 3 M-M QSOs over 2 days on October 9 & 10

Hello Barry,

Copied both signals with readable level. Callsighns M's R's and lot of 73's.
May be most interesting is your frequensys from first to last period. I'll
send it later after my work.
Conditions not the best- fog, rain(not heavy), moon noise 1.1 dB.

Now running to my work.

Best 73 Sergei RW3BP

Hi Barry and Al,
I heard your signals on the 9th of October at around 09:02 UTC for about
half an hour as well as on the 10th of October at 10:31 UTC.
I copied the callsigns as well as many R's,  N's and 73's. It was hard for
me to copy, because I was busy keeping the dish on the moon. I also believe
to have heard a signal on October 9th at 08:20 UTC. The frequency on my
receiver indicated 24,196.133 MHz drifting to 24,196.115 MHz. Moon noise on
both days was approximately 1.5 dB and the weather was cloudy on the second
day. I recorded most of the contacts on audio tape. It was very exciting.

73,
Gunter   VE7CLD
