Hi Joe,

little report from IK2MMB.  Worked relaxedly during weekend, random qsos
and followed some of the skeds.  Best echoes and condx Saturday evening
till 2200z then big fading showed up quickly.  Sunday condx were not as
good as Sat with deep fading going up and down quickly.  A pain to manually
aim the antenna for best echo (yes the elevation automation is not
completed yet...again). Heard WA1JOF on one of his skeds, not too strong
but qso possible. Heard decently F1PYR Sat night and tried to call him but
only got some Qrz, we'll do it next time. With Ivo ZS6AXT there is always a
deep quick fading even in good conditions, in these last days I wasn't
almost able to understand him due to the enormous fading; we are almost on
the same longitude and opposite latitude with respect to the equator
(Enrico HB9SV reports the same) it is interesting for me to monitor his
signal.
I prefer random but I am available for skeds, of course.  3.5m, long IMU,
520W.
Prosperous 2001 to all of you. Sergio MMB.

Hi Joe !

Thanks for adding me to your mailing list !
Please change my mailaddress to:

because I have no access to my work mail address from home.

Some report from last SW 6/7 Jan.:
Sked with W1XZ fails, I heard Willie in his 3rd cycle weak, signal
comes up to the end of the skedtime. Heard him calling ON5OF.
But he did not hear me. Later heard him calling CQ, but also no
success. Worked NC1I with very loud signal on my single yagi and
also K1FO.

Thanks, 73 de

Happy New Year !

I have been playing around with a new 8 ft x 9 ft Prodelin offset dish (f/D of 0.7), a good preamp (1.55 dB NF) and this weekend a new IMU feedhorn (larger size thanks to W1GHZ calculations) and I'm very happy with the results !

I get a solid 14.9 dB Sun noise and 2.1 dB moon noise......a truly amazing dish!

I heard you arrange on 20 m to talk about 24 GHz and I wonder what your status is???

My priority now is to get the bigger TWTs tested (power supply mods req'd)  but I do have 11 W now.  I will be wanting to echo test in the next month or 2, but I still have station integration work to do.

Dear Joe: Just a note to keep you posted. I have taken the big amp off
the air to awaiting the new Ultim bypass material sent courtesy of Jay.
I've learned a lot of little tricks about these boxes, not all of them
good! In the meantime, I'm staying active off the moon on 23 Cm almost
everytime we have moon. The 200-250 watts supplied by my 2x7289 driver
provides very reliable S4-5 echoes off the moon. Schedule weekend totals
you already have, but here is a list of the stations worked:Friday, 5 Jan
W5LUA, 559/569, VE1ALQ, 559/579,W2UHI,569/579,KD4LT,55-6/54-6 SSB,W7SZ,

Hi Al, Joe, Klaus

Thanks for publishing the proposed EME procedures in the NL. One thing
that wasn't made clear is that it is only a DRAFT FOR COMMENT!

I haven't heard of any comments so far, in response to the NL
publication. Does that mean there were none, and everybody is happy?
If anyone has seen recent comments, please can they forward them to me.

We need to make a "last call" for comments and then move on to make some
firm recommendations that will stand for the next few years.

(Klaus: I don't see the link to the draft procedures from your snafu.de
site?)

Hi Joe,
I do not plan be QRV on 1296 for next two months. I am intensively working
on 13 cm equipment.  I have my equipment for all three subbands working on
the bench except PA. I have problems with RX converter for 2304, the total
NF of the system is 1.2 dB, while on other bands 2320 and 2424 is 0.6 dB. I
suspect oscillations / spurious in LO chain. This is classical interdigital
converter which I buit 1978, and something get old, But even with very high
NF of the converter and gain of my LNA=50 dB NF should not get so bad. I
hope to solve this problems this weekend. Last step will be to test my PA.
Finally I will have to move everything to the shack on the hill. Everything
indicates that I will be QRV for February 3 / 4  on all three 13 cm
sub-bands.
 I am looking for skeds with OE9XXI  OE9ERC  LX1DB  G3LTF   DL6LAU ?
W7GBI  W5LUA JA4BLC JA7BMB and others.                **********
At present I am using my 20 years old Xtal exciter which I can tune only
between 2304.000 to 2304.080 My absolute TX frequency calibration +/- 4
kHz, only my own OCXO reference.
I prefer to transmit on 2304.050, TX frequency in cross band - the same
number of kHz.
My window:
from 2 February  2130Z till  3 February 0800Z
from 3 February  2230Z till  4 February 0830Z

I had a very nice trip to Atlanta and the highlight was (of course) meeting
Ray, WA4NJP and seeing his setup.  I got back today just before sunset and
realized that the wind had shifted my tie down chains and my AZ drive shaft
was broken.  Daylight is no more and I am just not up to fixing it in the
dark and cold after flying for 10 hours.  So I had to cancel my sked with
DK3WG and DJ3FI.  I will very likely have it working by my moonrise
tomorrow but my EU window is almost gone.  My moonrise is at about 9
degrees due to mountains.  I hope to be on for 14Jan moonrise.
Tnx & 73

Hi Joe, Hope you are doing ok. Just got off moon tonite...Worked
Don again tonight, but no one else was on but us stalwarts. Don had a sked
with Brian, VE6NA at 0400, but didn't show up...At least he wasn't on thru
0420 tx period. Last nite Don called him for an hour with no result, then
started to call WA6PY on his 0300 sked and Brian called him at 0300...Don
didn't hear him call...I guess Brian was late. Anyway Don worked Paul last
night for a new one. Jay and I fooled around with QRP...I was running
200 watts. Jay went down to 2 watts! he is a solid 539, about the same
strength as Don is here. I'm still waiting on some more bits
before finishing the fix on the big amp here. I should have it back on
by the weekend. I also fixed the last vestiges of my chirp today...It was
just housekeeping ( read as : Getting rid of the Mickey Mouse) on the Vcc
Wiring and remoting the sense leads on the powersupply..Big Difference..
I've also had a little time to play with optimizing the SSB signal...passband/processing
levels /etc. Very interesting...BTW, I can hear my own echoes on FM at
250 watts!! (No, they arn't full quieting...but readable) We are scheduled
for a big winter blast over the weekend. Just when I'm off to get my tractor.
Anyway, off to bed. I'm not going to be on 20 in the Am as I'm off teaching
school. Pass my regards to the gang if you are on. 73 Bruce
