U.S.A., K. Matt/KB8KNM and Dan/KB8UYZ will activate the rare Grid EN67, from Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, September 5th. And for the county hunters, that's Keweenaw County. Listen for K8C on 80-2 meters SSB. Dan informs OPDX that this is just a one day operation. He states, "It's about an 8 hour drive from our QTH, and the spot we have chosen is about another 1 hour out in the woods (taking Jeeps to get back in there). We'll be operating from a cliff overlooking Lake Superior. Nice spot. This will be our first trip to EN67, and if all goes well, we do plan additional (operations), longer ones in the future. QSL direct via Dan, KB8UYZ. All QSLs will be answered. A S.A.S.E. is appreciated, but not required. (OPDX 671) 11/08 2004 5/09 2004

Kure Isl., KH7K. The Pacific DX Group is planning a DXpedition to Kure Atoll starting in mid-October for a 10 to 11 day operation. The team leaders are Kimo/KH7U and Patrick/NH6UY. They will be joined by an experienced international team of operators. The team consisting of about 15 operators will be active on 160-6 meters on SSB, CW, RTTY and with some PSK31. Operators mentioned so far are: KH7U, NH6UY, N4XP, WB4JTT, KO4RR, AA7A, N6MZ, DJ9ZB, I8NHJ, AH9B, N0AX, RZ3AA and JH7OHF. Kure is number 29 in North America and number 17 overall in the DX Magazine's "Most Wanted" for 2003. There has not been activity from here since 1997 and that operation resulted in a limited number of QSOs. Currently it is a wild life refuge normally closed to entry, and they are very lucky to be able to gain permission to land there. They want to give KH7K to as many North American DXers as they can on as many bands as possible. However, their primary target will be Europe. They also hope to provide a daily report and pictures while the DXpedition is in progress via the team's Web site. The Web page is currently under construction and can be found at: http://www.dxpedition.info The cost to make Kure available is very high even though the team members are absorbing a large portion of the expenses. They must first fly to Midway Island and then sail to Kure, so they are experiencing both plane and boat expenses. The trip will take a total of one month with an estimated 11 days on the Atoll for operating. Elliott, K7ER, is their NA point of contact for funds. His E-mail address is: [email protected] It was mentioned that there will be no online logs. More information will be forthcoming. (OPDX 671) 11/08 2004 ?/10 2004

Leshoto, 7P., Swaziland, 3D. & Mozambique, C9. Dave/K4SV and Neil/VA7DX return to Africa July 28th and will be active from three DX locations through August 17th. Dave and Neil will operate from Lesotho, July 29th to August 6th, Swaziland, August 7-11th and Mozambique, August 12-17th. Activity will be on CW, SSB, RTTY and other digital modes, with operations planned for 160-10 meters; subject to daily propagation conditions, with focus on the low bands nightly. Special effort will be made to work the general portion of the bands. Equipment has been provided by ZS6WB for meteor scatter and EME operation on 2m and 6m using FSK441 and JT65. Patience will be required because neither operator has much experience in either mode. Verticals will be used on 160 to 30 meters with 4 element A4S and WARC beams at 75 feet for the higher bands. Towers, antennas, logistical support, licensing and all in-country arrangements have been handled by African DX Safaris - ZS6WPX. They suggest that anyone needing these countries get your antennas ready to go now. Last year's callsigns will be reactivated with Dave using 7P8DA, 3DA0SV and C91DA. Neil will use 7P8NK, 3DA0WC and C91NK. Information on how to QSL and online logs will be available at: http://www.k4sv.com Logs will be uploaded daily and will be updated with the date of any QSL requests received and sent. QSL Manager for the entire operation will be: Stephen K4YL, PO Box 183, Flat Rock, NC 28731-0183 USA. (OPDX 670) 25/07 2004 17/8 2004

50 MHz Chatroom. Alain, ON4KST, writes; Dear chat user, The ON4KST chat/dx board has been running now since June 2002 and has become very successful.  Until now over 4000 users have registered and up to 300 users are logged in at the same time.

I send you this message because many improvements have recently been made. This message is intended to help you use the site.

How to login using a webbrowser?
===============================
Several servers are running (master-slave and backup configuration).  For continued easy access it is important to follow the proper login procedure. Login in this sequence - only use the next server if the previous one does not work:

1.    http://www.on4kst.com/chat
2.    http://www.on4kst.info/chat
3.    http://on4kst.dyndns.org/chat

In case of a failure of the main server you will automatically be rerouted to the backup server.

How to login using a telnet connection?
======================================
You can access the chat from a mobile device (some GSM/cell phones or PDA) or from packet radio by using telnet.  Also if your browser is very old or not properly supported, access via telnet may be an option.

The telnet connect command is: telnet www.on4kst.info 23000

For some mobile phones like the Nokia Communicator and most PDA's there are telnet clients available for download. If you wish to access the chat using packet radio you must find a packet-to-internet gateway first.  The gateways  I know of are listed on the help page (accessable by typing /HELP).  If you know of or use other packet-to-internet gateways which work, please send an email to [email protected].

How to configure the panels (only for access using a webbrowser)?
================================================================
In the upper left hand corner you find a MENU button.  Click this button and select "Change settings".  Take a good look at all the options and set according to your preferences.  Under the MENU option you will also find many other handy features.

How to use inline commands?
==========================
Type "/HELP" to see a list with the available inline commands such as /DX, /SHLOC, /SHUSER, /CQ, etc.

Is ON4KST only a chat?
=====================
No.  It is a DX board.  Besides the chat function it shows DX-spots which are retrieved in real time from more than 20 DX-clusters throughout the world (Europe, USA, Canada, Japan, New-Zealand, etc.). You also have the option to send DX spots from the board to a cluster of your choice.  You can choose to have the board add locators to the DX-spot panel. The DX-map is separately configurable by using the MENU button in the upper left hand corner of the DX-map.
The propagation panel provides a real time display of the most important indices. Because ON4KST is an open system it allows access to the relevant World Wide Convers channels and allows display and sending of ANN/FULL messages to the DX-cluster network.

I don't remember my password, what to do?
========================================
The login window has a "Forgot your password?" link.  When you click on it, then enter your callsign, a temporary password will be generated and send to the email address which you have provided when you registered on the chat.
If your email address is not correct or has changed since then this password will, of course, never reach you.  When this happens please send an email to [email protected] explaining the situation.

I am changing my email address?
==============================
If your email address is changing for any reason, please change this in the "Change settings" panel as described above.  It is very important that the email address remains valid.

How much does all this cost?
===========================
The ON4KST DX-board is completely free.  It is set up out of HAM spirit - no donations are needed.

Finally..
=========
I want to thank all Hams (users and otherwise) for making this site the success it has become.  If you have not visited the board in a while I invite you to come back and see how it has evolved.

I hope you enjoy the board very much.  If you have any remarks or would like to see some features added, please send me an email as well.

73 Alain, ON4KST - sysop. 17/7 2004

QSL info. Johan ON4IQ, writes; Due to the increased cost of QSL-ing nowadays and not wanting to make a living on direct QSL, following measures have been taken to provide YOU a QSL from the stations I manage.

CN8LI QSL I've made CN8LI a member of the belgian QSL buro, and I accept buro cards for him. I have mailed all QSL till June 2004 via the buro.

HI3TEJ QSL For Ted's QSL I have opted to use LOTW (Logbook Of The World program by the ARRL), you will get credit for DXCC via the LOTW awards program. Those requiring a full color paper QSL still need to send me a SASE.

HI8ROX QSL I'm in the proces of sending out 9000 QSL for HI8ROX QSO's made over the last years via the buro. It willbe a one operation thing clearing the entire log. The logs will be uploaded to LOTW as well somewhere in August.

5T6M QSL I've closed the log, and all log entries have been send a QSL via the DARC buro (drop off in Friedrichshaven).

HB0/ON4ANT QSL Logs closed, all remaining QSL sennd via the buro.

Those requiring more info about the QSL can join me on www.dxers.info pages. Best regards Johan ON4IQ 9/7-2004

U.A.E. A61. Peter PA2VST, writes; I am glad to announce that per August 1st, 2003 I will be the QSL manager for A61AH. Perhaps I will be able to do earlier logs in the near future too. Only direct QSL cards will be answered because the use of the Dutch QSL bureau is not allowed yet. 50 MHZ Report June/July 2004 by M1DUD /QRP

I worked 30 DXCC’S in the month of June.   Twenty-Seven were on single Sideband and a further 19 on CW. My main highlight was working two new DXCC’S, 3A Monaco on CW and 7X Algeria on both USB and CW.  A further bonus was working ZA Albania on CW.  The greatest DX worked so far this year was on 29th June at 1706 UTC with UT1IA in KN87 some 2620 kilometres distant.

During June I made 169 contacts on 6 meters, this included two periods of contest operation in both the UKSMG and the IARU six-meter contests.

On 5th/6th June I worked 9A, EA, G, I, ON, PA and 9H the ODX was 9H1TM in JM75 at 2053 kilometres.  One-way propagation was noted in the Strong E’ opening on Saturday 5th.

9th June at 1830 I copied UT5G 539 on CW in KN66 an incredible distance 2346 Kilometres.  In the same opening, I worked YO5CES, LZ3RX and LZ2PEP in KN33 at a fairly impressive 2098 Kilometres.

On 10th June, I again found myself in the centre of the skip with CT working into the Baltic region.  Now, why am I hearing Portugal and Spain when there is and E’ opening into Scandinavia?  I’m confident that this is double hop E layer propagation rather than Sporadic E’s.  The first scatter point would be in the Bay of Biscay and second above JO25 in the North Sea giving total path length over 2600 kilometres.  I would be very fascinated to know if other stations have recorded such in their logs.  I worked CQ4DX at 1642 on a QTF of 220 degrees and a minute later on a QTF of 060 I worked LY2BH.  For over an hour I was able to hear both CT and EH stations working OH3 and LY.  The opening was strong with some slight QSB.

On 24th June between 1700-1740 opening into Denmark/Sweden and I had solid SSB contacts with OZ4ADX Rene on Bornholm island, OZ8ABE and OZ2PBS both in JO55.  Also I worked SM7WT and heard SM7FJ both in JO65.  Signals were all very strong with very slight QSB and some band noise. Around 1740 I heard SM7RYO in JO76, a shortly after this propagation shifted wholly to southeast Europe.   At 1745 I heard in significant QSB, UR4UDI in KO40.  At 1849 I worked UX0FF on CW in KN45  (2140 Kilometers).  6 Minutes later on CW I worked ZA/Z35W in Tirana (JN91). At 2000 the LZ2CC Beacon (5Watts ERP) in KN22, was copied 559.  By 2100 hrs here was some very deep fading, but propagation remained open into Italy, Sicily and the Balkans at least until 2140 UTC with S9+ of R1 and E2 video also.

The following morning 25th June I had my beam pointing due south.  Emerging out of the noise, at 0640 I worked on SSB, EH6CC Rui, in JM19 (1400 kilometers). The I0JX/B beacon was 589 with me at 0700, with increasing signal strengths.  At 0720 I was enormously pleased to work Laura 3A2MD. Although I have heard Monaco every year on SSB, and it has always attracted a huge pile-up, this time I was able to get through on CW with a 449 report.  At 1804 hours, I worked CQ44NH in IM58 and almost one hour later on, I heard on 50.100 an unidentified? X0 station calling on CW.   At 1909 utc I heard 7X0AD calling CQ on CW on the same frequency.  I netted him on my second call for a 599 report (I think the operator may have been EH5KW), in JM16 square, some1716 Kilometres distant.  At 1956, I worked EH9IB Pedro in Melilla, a strong signal but with significant fading and band noise present.   As with the previous day, six meters ‘E’ propagation continued after 2130 into the Balkans with Italy, Croatia, and Slovenia all worked.

On 29th June I made several contacts into the Ukraine at 1655 I worked Vlad US5CCO in KN57, 2167 Kilometres, Super! This was closely followed by an extraordinary CW contact with UT1IA in KN87, an astonishing 2620 Kilometres! Wow!  Finally, at 1714 hours, I worked Val UR4RC in KO40 at 1981 Kilometres.

On 30th June Again, I worked into the Ukraine.  At 1630 I worked UT3UZ Alex on CW in KO50 2035 Kilometres.   At 1646 hours, again I worked UR4RC in KO40. Conditions were noisy, with signal strengths markedly less than the previous day.

On July 5th I copied at 0900 the SV1SIX beacon 539 on 50.040 CW One country that continues to elude me is Gibraltar ZB2.  On 10th July, I heard ZB2EO on CW at 1420, regrettably he did not hear me!   However, there was good solid opening into Scotland between 1630-1730 with GM4FSW, MM5DWW, GM1VKI, MM0BSM, GM4WJA, GM4VVX worked on SSB and I also heard GM4VVX, GM0EFT, MM5AHO, GM8IEM. On CW, I copied MM0CEZ.  E’ Propagation shifted over to the Baltic with LY1CX in KO25 being worked at 1730.  Over the next 45 minutes, I worked the following:  SM7ASL, SM7XJF, SM1CQA (Gotland), DL/PE1GUR, ES5AM OZ6ABA (JO57).  There was then long-skip condition with UT5UKY Vlad, in KO50 being worked at 1818 hours at 2026 kilometres distant. On the same beam heading stations in DL, OK2, SP9, SP6 and OH1 were worked between 1943-2020.  At 2030 I copied 59+++ SV1DH, of course a huge pile up soon amassed on Costas in KM27, and so alas, no contact resulted.

Editorial.

Temporally out of service. The system here is very unstable at the present, updates have not been made as often as I whish, right now things are running (at old 6x86) but I am working on, getting an other computer ready to maintain service. Regards OZ6OM "Matt". 8/8-2004

Latest editorial by OZ6OM. As You can see beneath, I planned for a break over an longer period - and it has been. Facing multiple surgery I realized, I had to slow down and take my time to recover. I am now in progress in doing so. Meanwhile, I have still received some DX info over the latest time - so I think I´ll give it a try and update the page at a regular basis. But it will be a modest start. My radio activity, in the nearest future will properly be at the local 2 meter repeater, and some participation in the Nordic Activity Contest with the OZ7CQ team - and perhaps a 6 meter contest or two as OZ6OM. So the rest of the year will be in small but determined steps. Regards OZ6OM "Matt". 1/7-2004

Editorial (May 2003) by OZ6OM. Back in January, I announced the last issue of the OZ50MHz DX Bulletin. Since then I have maintained this DX News page. But I feel I cant keep up with the news - QSP them fast enough, to say its really news. Some times I lack a few days behind. As editor I do not feel this is satisfying. I have therefore decided its time for a break, yes I have been at this since the first activity reports back in 1989. This news service may be back when my life get less stress full and I´m back at full health again. Until then I can only recommend the News pages of Arne SM7AED´s 50 MHz notebook and ofcouse the news at UKSMG and SMIRK. Until then, thanks for this time - and all the positive feedbacks - and mails I have received over the years. Very kind regards OZ6OM "Matt". 30/5-2003
