TM5T on the IOTA contest 2003

Planning St Marcourf Isl. (EU081)

The dream ...  on May 29th, 2003, we visited ST MARCOUF in order to activate the island durig the IOTA 2003.
St Marcouf is somewhere right before Ste Mère Eglise, in the Manche.

Ile de Terre is a Natural Reserve and is forbiden and so far nothing is said about Ile du Large. Location : 49° 29' 52'' N and 01° 08' 43'' W , for more information

We had to keep care of the birds and specialy while they were nesting.

These are the only two doors of the fortified castle .

The channel all around the castle. So what could we do else than to stay on the beach ?
And the our plans for St Marcouf collapsed here !

And what would be a ham without a few CQ's ?

"CQ CQ CQ de F/ON6QR..."

The deception ... when we arrived on 26 July, 3 other hams were already there. They had an official permission to stay in the castle and were not ready to share the site !

The only solution was a withdrawal to Chausey Isl, an island that we worked already in 1995.

but working from Chausey Isl. (EU039)

Waiting for the boat. From left to right : Fred, ON6QR , Gilbert ON6QS and Peter ON7PC

The catamaran "Jolie France" who makes two travels a day to Chausey.

Arriving at Chausey with his lighthouse.

There is no bus, no car on Chausey, and the only transportation style is this one.

Due to the transportation schedule, we started at 00:00z with teh special call TM5T. Here is ON6QR operating

ON6QR testing the equipment before the expedition (on July 21th).
ON7PC operating. Due to the transportation problem we were limited to use a minimum of equipment, an IC746,
a 3 bander for 10 , 15 and 20 m (on the foreground), and
another vertical antenna,for 40 m and 80 m, the "battle creek", who works as a quarter wave on 40 m and a top loaded on 80 m.
73 from
ON6QR, ON6QS and ON7PC

nevertheless, we had fun and we gained more "experience".
