De Groene Long ‘The Green Lung’ is an educational
nature development park in the neighbourhood of my home qth.
The backbone of the 'green lung'
consists of a  dike lined with pollard willows.

Around it you can find biotopes such as meadows,
pastures with donkeys in them,
tall tree orchards with sheep, pools and woods.
Nature education centre 'Het Slot' is the ideal point of departure to discover the area.
Schools can book guided walks.

The Leie (
Dutch) or Lys (French) is a river in France and Belgium, and a left tributary of the Scheldt. It's source is in Pas-de-Calais, France, and it flows into the river Scheldt in Ghent, Belgium. It's total length is 202 km. Historically, the Leie valley was known for the spinning and weaving of flax. The region of the Leie (between Deinze and Ghent) used to be known as a favourite place for numerous painters in the first half of the 20th century. The source of the Leie is in the village Lisbourg, east of Fruges, in the Pas-de-Calais department of France.
