A wonderful adventure established truck after Martin ON4PO question of who was interested to go to the Isles JERSEY with IOTA EU-013 for an expedition to see what it would give, the question was motivated, meaning in radio operating and cuts in expenses, which were still there after a raffle proceeds, which was decorated by Martin ON4PO nice and what had been accomplished. The other expenses were borne by the IPA ..... but there was not too much what is normal, we also had sponsors such as the printing QSL ON5UR and the UBA-GNT, and not to forget our XYL'S Carine-Christine - Micheline and Nora, for which many thanks!

The MJ/ON4IPA story.

By ON7EG Martin.

Already in 1979 we were present at the first ever INTERNATIONAL MEETING of the DX DX FLANDERS CLUB. So in the room AHEAD in Ghent is still in Belgium never equaled or surpassed.
For us, this was the 1st great introduction to DX expeditions and relatives. Never thought I would ever participate in such a Dxpeditie.

How it all started:

Nearly 20 years we have with a group of OM's from the Ghent participated in VHF contest group and field days for the great part to our qth on the Hotonberg in Ronse JO10SS. What we have seen on those few days in Jersey is no comparison.
When I heard that by 3 friends on a mini expedition rope was put to the island of Jersey, and I learned that they have a 4th man looked, I did not need long to think about "doing".

After a few "working meetings" and many e-mails was finally taken on October 5 early in the morning reiterate 4 men with lots of luggage on "adventure" to the beautiful island of Jersey. The trip went very smoothly and the crossing from St. Malo to Jersey was an experience in itself.

Do not think that everything just ran without a hitch!

We came into an unknown environment with a navigation system that did not work in Jersey and the fact that we had to ride LEFT and many other factors. With that drive left we laughed a lot! Fortunately we were waiting (on the freq. 2m) by the local friends from Jersey who told us the right path to our location and to the radio club. This radio club is located in an old bunker from the 2nd World War. Yet we had a lot of improvising with equipment and antennas to 100% qrv to be like we wanted.

I hope you the opportunity to get the nomination to view and listen to everything we have seen. Therefore, I would also not go into detail about what we are and to "ours" bunker have experienced.
But I still tell that it was a tremendous experience to meet the other side of the many "pile-ups" to sit and enjoy the enormous interest in the island of Jersey with Iota EU-013 to work.
We were therefore very pleased that we have many hundreds " Belgians " ON3's especially happy could make a qso in SSB or RTTY with MJ.
There follows a very nice QSL card!

We have had very good, even on Friday we were visited by a number GJ amateurs and have lots of data can change our hobby, our Pavilion, and so much more.
The language was sometimes a small problem but we could still our good drawn from the battle.
We could even afford to us in the immediate area a short walk to make if we do not meet the tranciever sat. (In one word .... beautiful !)

Our location was not large but very pleasant. We had also REALLY visibility at sea and on that island where the entrance to runs under the full tide.
We have our own ready-made food, washed our bed sheet and made a lot of fun! It was very pleasant to stay and we would certainly recommend to anyone.

The last night we had even a beautiful sunset luck to admire. That night we were visited by 2 of our friends Jersey and a glass (French) champagne, we have learned a lot of life on Jersey, not only in terms of radio amateurs but also on general culture and life on this island.

What have we missed? Yes, everybody had to admit that we actually do our XYL have missed a bit, especially because most of us this is not simply to provide the parental home for a few days to leave.

With a few thousand QSO's (4063) and a very good feeling we are embarked on our return to Ghent. Everyone was at it: here we come back again certain, whether or not a tourist trip.

Or so we would participate in such a DX expedition? Yes, perhaps? With XYL? Who knows? Never say never! We still see, thanks in each case friends Eddy, René and Martin for this unforgettable experience!

Thanks also to the sponsors, the UBA, the radio amateurs of Jersey, the IPA and the thousands of radio amateurs from "all over the world", and to all those I have forgotten.

Greetings ON7EG Martin
