Dear Mark, I read your practical guide on operational procedures. I must say that I was impressed about! Is very usefull to me as I like to work DX stations and become better on this. I will keep it on my offline folder in order to have it read from time to time. Is very good to have a well written guide for this and I hope that in the future will be more and more ham to respect that word because is full of common sense.
Many thanks Mark!

Wise words, indeed, but no mention of the bad practice of "tuning-up" on-air. I have used a dummy load all my 33 years on ham radio but I am amazed at the number of shacks I have visited where the op does not have one.

I am a relatively new ham.  I had the benifit of a couple of mentors that taught me the lessons you have written about.  I was able to get my first 100 QSO's confirmed in 2006.  All on 100 watts.  I rarely gave my call more than once after spending several min. listening. I must add that I alsmost gave up on HF and DXing early on because someone was less than diplomatic when I made a mistake.  Thanks for your work hope to log you soon. Al Lewey, K7ABL.

Excellent tutorial. Very clear and well written. I just got back from operating CW as 9G5XA and I do soooo wish some of our south EU friends had read and followed your article. Apart from the usual blind callers, a new frustration is the increasing number of ops who send their own (or even my own!) call again at the beginning of their report to me. This wastes a lot of time. May I put a link to your URL on my qrz.com entry for my DX calls? 73, Alan G3XAQ.

Re QSL'ing. I often get QSL cards where the date and/or time is wrong. One area of confusion is local date (against GMT date) also local time versus GMT time. But sometimes there is NO correlation, even when I search the log and find it elsewhere. No (fairly) accurate date/time = NO QSL

Mark, thank you so very much for taking the time to write this article. It was extremely helpful and enlightening.

GM Mark, I am visiting your web site and knowing you. Now, 04:50 UTC, very much noise in 160 & 80 m.
I am waiting information for a reception quad and low noise amplifier to use with my TS 870. Best regards

Salut Mark,
