Bratislava the capital of Slovakia. it is situated on both banks of the Danube river on the boerder Austria and Hungary.
Bratislava has several important archeological sites from Palaeolithic times to Midle ages. The first writen report comes from annals which report that in 907 a great battle between the old Bavarians and the Magyars was fought near the town.After incorporation into the Hungarian State, the castle at Bratislava became an important border fortress and Hungarian kings often stayed here.In 1291 the Hungarian king Andrew III. granted town privileges to Bratislava and, thereafter, it developed as a free royal town. Bratislava was from 1536 to 1783  the capital of the Hungarian kindom where the coronation of the Hungarian monarchs took place from 1536 to 1830.There were crown 1 Hungarian Queen, 10 Hungarian kings and 8 wives of kings.
In 1783 Bratislava was the largest city in Hungarian kingdom. In 1465 there was founded first university in the territory of Slovakia, Academia Istropolitana.
Now is Bratislava historical, administrative, economic and cultural centre, the seat of President of Slovak Republic parliament, the government, central offices and institutions and diplomatic representations.
