OH2GAQ
amateur radio station
Introduction
OH2GAQ History
My Radio Amateur experience began in 1961 as VK3ZMV ("Z" calls in Australia in those day had rights to operate on VHF bands (50 MHz and up) only), where I operated on 2 metres for some years from Ballarat, a country town to the west of Melbourne. Equipment was all "home brew" in those days, much of mine was built from war surplus equipment. Later on I operated from Melbourne, on both 144 MHz and 432 MHz.
For many years I was inactive, until I decided it was time to take-up ham radio again. By that time I was living in Finland, and it seemed easier to just sit for the normal Finnish Radio Amateur exam, which I did and after passing the exam I received my present call sign, OH2GAQ, in 2002.
During the time from 2002 to 2009, ham radio activity has been at a low level. Mainly I have been collecting bits and pieces to build microwave equipment and planning and designing that equipment. Also I have acquired several long-wanted items of test equipment on e-Bay and through other disposal sources in US and UK, so that it is possible to build and measure the performance of the microwave gear. Since retiring in mid-2009, equipment has been planned and built for QO-100, 24 GHz, 10 GHz, 5.7GHz and 1296 MHz.
Other interests outside the family include boating in the coastal waters of Espoo, and building or renovating houses. Now that the kids have their own homes, the last activity seems to be pretty important.
73's, Hamish, OH2GAQ
